My husband thinks he's going to be made redundant...

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 17:10

Kirinm

Hospital local to me was named worst in the UK at one point, under labour government and 10 years after labour gov.

It's much much better now. I don't doubt the NHS is struggling. But I don't buy into this at all, that hospitals were left in the most amazing tip top highly functioning condition by labour, to then be dragged down by the nasty tories.

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 17:10

Sorry 10 years after labour won the election ie plenty of time for investment.

Rollinghillside · 17/03/2020 17:11

Only two thirds of pupils turned up to my kids' school today.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 17:11

Relative working in offices for big retailer is working from home for the next three months.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 17:11

Interesting they pick up the language of other countries. More about war and fight. They know they’re behind.

kirinm · 17/03/2020 17:12

Who do you think has been in charge for the last decade? It hasn't been labour. The facts speak for themselves, I'm afraid. The Tories have decimated the health service. That we don't have enough doctors or nurses is not down to Labour. Anyway, this isn't an argument to be having but I'm just pointing out that Jeremy Hunt is no saviour of the NHS.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 17:12

War language wont help stop the elderly go out - it reinforce the blitz spirt of keeping going out futher.

PleaseStopCrying · 17/03/2020 17:13

Sunak says government backed loans of 330 billion pounds for businesses!!

SansaSnark · 17/03/2020 17:13

Today in school I had a student in one of my classes who was coughing. I sent her to student services, and they sent her back to lesson. I later saw her at lunch, still coughing. Apparently, they felt she was faking the symptoms, as she had been seen googling the symptoms earlier. In my opinion, they shouldn't be making this type of judgement call.

Anyway, I have now developed a cough anyway, so am staying off with the support of the school.

We were doubling up classes today- and I know other schools have already started doing partial closures. I don't think that many schools will be able to stay open for that much longer.

Thunderpunt · 17/03/2020 17:13

Loans!

middleager · 17/03/2020 17:13

Thanks Who
Watching briefing. Why was this "unimaginable" weeks ago?

We saw China, then Italy. We could see it on here weeks ago.

DressingGownofDoom · 17/03/2020 17:13

How are you going to do that then mate

LuxLFC · 17/03/2020 17:14

Since when did mumsnet become 111 online? All these new threads with symptoms Hmm wtf?

confusedandtired99 · 17/03/2020 17:14

Loans... fuck sake

PleaseStopCrying · 17/03/2020 17:16

Anyone else wondering where all this cash he is promising will come from?

boatyardblues · 17/03/2020 17:16

Also got an email via uni saying healthcare students have valuable skills and will be made of use of... we’re studying occupational therapy so not sure what we’re supposed to do in the face of a pandemic!!

AKA a large pool of DBS-checked younger people (ie in lower risk age groups) with an interest in patient-facing roles and more skills than the general population.

kirinm · 17/03/2020 17:16

Why are loans a bad thing? Something had to happen or we are looking at businesses closing left, right and centre and hundreds / thousands losing their jobs.

kirinm · 17/03/2020 17:17

@pleasestopcrying - it's quantative easing. They are literally going to print money and it will become a debt we, as a country, to pay back.

confusedandtired99 · 17/03/2020 17:18

Because someone is profiting from it somewhere

SansaSnark · 17/03/2020 17:18

Also, seen a lot of pubs/restaurants on facebook saying they are still open and "taking sensible precautions", and encouraging people to come!

I understand that small businesses will struggle, but I find that really irresponsible.

confusedandtired99 · 17/03/2020 17:18

Except for those businesses

PleaseStopCrying · 17/03/2020 17:19

Ah ok I was wondering, just sat here pondering where the money was comibg from as hes dishing it out like monopoly money.

CricketCrocket · 17/03/2020 17:20
