Paper can transmit the virus.

Then it is people like him who are recklessly spreading the virus.

Australias DFAT has just issued a release saying all Australians currently overseas should get home asap or risk bring out of country for unknown amount of time (paraphrasing)
Looks like we are shutting it down...

Being called a silly person for wanting to make sure we have ways to get food if we have to isolate is getting me down.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 11:43

Nobody i know sems to be following the rules - one over 70 even thinks its remainers getting revenge of brexeiters.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 11:43

The Jewish Chronicle - 'The former head of Milan's Jewish community, Michele Sciama died from coronavirus on Monday. He was 79.'

Trying to find accurate advice on self-isolation but its really not clear.

DD1 returning from French Alps tomorrow, says she has had all the symptoms and everyone in her team has already had it they think.
DH immunosuppressed. She's still coughing, but it's not a new cough.

Does she have to self-isolate? 7 or 14 days?

I have to pick her up from the airport, does that mean I have to self-isolate? FCO advice is really not clear.

Tesco today was mayhem! Like 3 Christmas's rolled together.

no mince chicken eggs, pasta, toilet roll, baby's wipes, uht milk only a small selection of bread, the freezer and cereal aisles only had slim pickings so we went to Iceland and it wasn't much better in there I'll have to make do with what we could get. I'm not stock piling btw I have the essentials but I need food to eat for now!

We went past McDonald's and it was packed, town was packed loads and loads of elderly swanning around. Seems no one is listening?

Dropped ds off at school this morning, we go via the office to meet his 1-1 (he has autism) and the office staff were on the phone to parents sending children home for coughing and ds 1-1 said they had quite low attendance. Also I'm being sent home a learning pack for ds today for when they close, she said when, not if.

Robert Peston
'Just spoken with deputy governor of inner London school. Half teachers and 20% of students off sick. Decision likely later today to shut school end of week. But desperate worry that children on free school meals won’t eat or eat properly if sent home. Told of urgent need for government to shut all schools as teaching establishments and keep some open to provide childcare for NHS and other emergency workers and to provide free meals for children who live in poverty. “Why isn’t there a government plan for schools?” is a plea I repeatedly here.'

danni0509 · 17/03/2020 11:50

In fact I probably see more elderly out today than I would usually see on a Tuesday morning! Deffo the over 70 category!

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 11:51

You gov showed over 70's are mostly in the it's just a bad flu category.

God help the ICU's in a fortnight.

woodencoffeetable · 17/03/2020 11:57

looks like germany is repatriating people who are away on holiday (watching a german news programme)

Chris Smyth - 'Ten days ago, Italian doctors were saying 10% of cases needed intensive care. Now Imperial are basing their modelling on 30% based on China, Italy and the UK. How likely is this to change given Italy is only picking up worst cases are UK only at the start?'

KOKOagainandagain · 17/03/2020 12:04

Don't know if anyone has seen this from khan academy on estimating actual cases

The Airport Operators Association says UK airports will shut down "within weeks" without government support due to the coronavirus pandemic

Sassenach85 · 17/03/2020 12:21

No body I know is following this “advice”. What I can see happening by end of month is govt saying here’s these new strict laws, people will moan and the govt will say “well we did ask you to be responsible but ....”

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 12:22

By the end of month we will have 1000 or more deaths and another 10k sent to their fate.

Is Boris doing a live speech today and if so what time? Thanks x

tryingtoprep · 17/03/2020 12:31

Just want to point out about that yougov survey. Market research can be manipulated to show results desired. I'm (an under 70) member of yougov and wasn't invited to that survey. I remember during Brexit there were several polls published indicating a public view, yet I and several others I know weren't invited to take part. It's just possible that poll actively excluded the 70+ cohort who were likely to support self isolation. You give away a lot about your opinions and they'll have an advance idea of your likely stance on things.
