I've ventured outside of this thread to others and am gobsmacked at the stupidity of some people. Basically saying that they aren't going to stop doing what they want to do do like seeing friends or going to exercise classes or whatever. We will need to be locked down to save us from the stupidity of others.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 10:36

Bercows seeing all that made me stop school early

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 10:41

Bejing this is the awful problem.

Re anything to do with respitory illness.

I was in waitrose at 8.30a. The shelves had Neen re stocked but still only about 10 packs of chicken left, 2 whole chickens only and whilst there were about 50 packs of eggs left, already most egg boxes were empty and no loo roll... The gov needs to put pressure on supermarkets to ration essentials!

I just feel sorry for the elderly struggling to get to shops and it's all gone. They know it will be sold for goodness sake!

If it was me, I'd have a board up, please talk to staff if your elderly /infirm and struggling to buy essentials.

So the gov have been heavily relying on their computer models. They have realised they will be about 8000 high needs beds short so the comp model had to run again.

Confused

So China frantically building huge hospitals didn't warn them nor Italy?

It's a bit like some one slavishly following the Sat nav, when they know the route and there is a better way.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the calm discussion and info on this thread. I’ve been lurking since thread 1 and am not reading any others now as they are fuelling some anxiety for me.

Does anyone know what time today’s PM briefing will be? And also, will they be at the same time every day or likely to move around? Thanks

Forgone90 · 17/03/2020 10:43

Anyone any idea what will happen to airport staff... we have had emails stating we would get full pay if we had to self isolate.. however were hearing rumours the airport may shut and im guessing it will be a different ball game in that case!

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 10:44

Bercows this is the biggest crisis I've ever faced in my life time and will be for the rest of my life.
And its being bitterly shunned away off main boards.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 10:46

Through if we don't have leisure things permanently then we sort of existing but not living.

PleaseStopCrying · 17/03/2020 10:47

Did anyone else just see Boris Johnsons dad on Thid Morning hes not onky ignoring the advice to socially isolate despite being over 70 but he's just said he would still go to the pub and that once you've caught it once you cannot catch it again. Hmm

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 10:47

Also even countries with apparently better healthcare than the uk still have massive infrastructure projects and large scale events.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 10:48

@LadyZinnia
It's at 4pm today.

Retailer Laura Ashley has announced it is entering administration and is suspending trading after reviewing the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on its cashflow

EveLevine · 17/03/2020 10:53

@Alone07 have you tried Iceland? They don’t seem to be booking more than a week in advance, so if you try first thing tomorrow you may be able to get a slot for next Tuesday.

Sunshinegirl82 · 17/03/2020 10:55

I just don’t know if life going forward is really a life that’s worth having to be honest.

We’ll lose our jobs, probably the house, DS1 was supposed to start school in September I suspect that won’t happen, won’t see any friends or family. Most of us might be alive but it’s a kind of half life. I’m not sure I see the point to it.

LadyZinnia · 17/03/2020 10:56

@Angryrant55 thanks!

fullofteandneedstopee · 17/03/2020 10:58

I still have a high temp of 39c and my child now does too. We are self isolating at home and feeling pretty rubbish. My throat is sore and I'm starting to cough a bit. Confirmed case in my office of 20, so I guess it's likely I have it but I can't be certain.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/03/2020 10:59

I'm done now. I phoned the schools and told them that we are not coming in. DH is self employed but he can work in relative isolation and doesn't need to use public transport, so he is much less at risk.

I figure the world will be upside down before the attendance officer gets flagged.

fullofteandneedstopee · 17/03/2020 11:00

@sunshine people during the world wars probably felt the same, but life does go on.

Forgone90 · 17/03/2020 11:01

@Sunshinegirl82 ok well you really need to take a step back and look at the big picture... there will be a vaccine for this be it 1 year or 18 month then yes things may be different but they will still be normal. We will look back in 5 years time and think oh god 2020 was a tough year but we all got through it.

Sunshinegirl82 · 17/03/2020 11:08

The effects on the economy will last decades. My DM can’t see the DC (who are basically her reason for living since DDad died a couple of years ago) so I really don’t know if she will cope.

If we knew it was 12 weeks then fine but it’s probably years and there’s no guarantee of a vaccine.

I can honestly see deaths caused by mental health issues will sky rocket. There are plenty of people who are only just about hanging on at the best of times.

InSomeKindOfWakingNightmare · 17/03/2020 11:11

We wont ALL get through this though. There are going to be thousands of deaths, and thats a best case scenario.

BarbedBloom · 17/03/2020 11:14

My whole grocery order is out of stock. My GP called to tell me I have to stay in. Husband went to shops and everything is gone pretty much. I couldn't even get chicken. We don't drive so hard to go to a load of shops.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 11:16

150 deaths in Spain in the Last 24 hours.

Exochord · 17/03/2020 11:21

My whole grocery order is out of stock
I suppose I should be grateful that I got some. But the delivery man shouted through the letterbox “no substitutions” and scarpered leaving the groceries on the step. And when I went out half of it had been subbed to things I’m allergic to or things that are a quarter of the size (but they’ve still charged full price). Not happy at all.
