We were very busy up until Friday, slightly quieter weekend but today has been so so quiet. We are a busy tourist town though where a lot of huge events have been cancelled. I’m so worried now

The only insurance policies that may cover this are the ones with the extension for NON SPECIFIED notifiable diseases.

Standard policies are on a specified diseases basis (chicken pox, mumps, leprosy, the plague) etc. There is no cover for new diseases (for the obvious reason that insurers can't calculate the risk)

I speak as an insurance broker

AlCalavicci · 16/03/2020 20:51

Depending on the pub / customer can you ask everyone to sit outside well apart and use plastic disposable ( yes I know not good for the environment, but will help peoples sanity) and only pay contactless ?

AlCalavicci · 16/03/2020 20:54

I do realise this is only practical in a limited number of pubs where outside seating is available and pref heated too

TheSoapyFrog · 16/03/2020 20:56

I still would. It gives me something to look forward to.

wheresmymojo · 16/03/2020 20:57

No, sorry.

I'm following Govt advice and to be honest have actually been avoiding social contact for at least a week now because I think the Govt is being too slow.

I'm sorry that he hasn't made it so that you can claim from your insurance though Thanks
I empathise as I'm self employed and have no job due to the virus and 4 weeks money left before we can't pay our mortgage.

allaboardthesinkingship · 16/03/2020 20:59

I'm sorry what an awful time for you 🙁

SylvanianFrenemies · 16/03/2020 21:00

Sorry no. I get that it is devastating for business. Could you sell vouchers for future use for regulars or something.

Can't believe the number of selfish twats saying they will still go to the pub, even no specifically told not to.

Ronnie27 · 16/03/2020 21:01

I wouldn’t know but this is absolutely shit for you re the insurance and wishy washy guidance. This is going to cost everyone dearly isn’t it, financially and business wise as well as health.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 16/03/2020 21:01

I've actually just made the decision to go to mine tomorrow lunchtime. They're a new business, seem absolutely lovely, but it's always absolutely dead in there at the best of times and I already felt sorry for them. Something like this could destroy their whole business as they haven't had the time to really get going yet.

So whilst I will take precautions, yes, I'll show them some support. I doubt my lunch will make much difference to their overheads, but they must be distraught right now.

theotherfossilsister · 16/03/2020 21:03

Currently self isolating, but when I get out I am going back to work with vulnerable people, so no, I wouldn't. I bloody love the pub too, a large glass of wine and a book after a long shift are heaven.

theotherfossilsister · 16/03/2020 21:03

I'm really sorry this is probably not what you want to hear.

maa1992 · 16/03/2020 21:04

Nope

Purpleartichoke · 16/03/2020 21:04

We are doing take out only

EstherMumsnet · 16/03/2020 21:04

Hi, We are just moving this to our Coronavirus topic area.

Darbs76 · 16/03/2020 21:04

No I wouldn’t. But then again it’s not part of my routine. You could just see if people still come

Psychoseverywhere · 16/03/2020 21:05

Not an option as all pubs closed in Ireland at the moment.

Dazedandconfused10 · 16/03/2020 21:05

I would and will still go to the pub. Many of my friends work in the industry and I dont want to see them lose their jobs and homes.

Darbs76 · 16/03/2020 21:05

If you sell food you could offer take outs

mnthrowaway202020 · 16/03/2020 21:06

I also think delivery could be something interesting to look into - people still want to go out, but can’t, so the demand is there.

You could eg set up shop on Deliveroo so their drivers deliver the orders, not you, you could certainly sell bottled drinks (particularly beer) and food (if you do serve food). I don’t know how feasible this would be for you business though.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 16/03/2020 21:07

Do you do food? Can you operate a delivery service? That’s what one or two of the restaurants are doing here. If you camps, it will be massively appreciated in the times to come softly. Good luck 💐

Hopeisnotastrategy · 16/03/2020 21:08

If you can it will be massively appreciated in the times to come shortly

NotSusanna · 16/03/2020 21:08

No I won't be going to pubs and I think anyone that does is being extremely selfish.

I'm sorry that this won't be what you want to hear. I'm affected in a similar way, not a pub, but similar.

circleorsquare · 16/03/2020 21:11

No due to new guidance. Think we all need to keep ourselves to ourselves for a while

Will you still go to the pub?
smellycatwee · 16/03/2020 21:11

no. dh isn`t going anymore either
