YABU yes
Yanbu no

Shameless I know. I have a small bar. People still coming but wondering at what point we should close our doors.

Hell no, I wouldn't.

Tonight's advice is not to go to pubs, restaurants, theatres, concerts and parties. So we're cancelling dinner reservations and giving up on theatre tickets for next week.

Ladyglitterfairydust · 16/03/2020 21:13

I’m supposed to be going out at the weekend (dinner and drinks) and I haven’t cancelled yet. I’m a teacher in a school of over 700 kids, of which around 150 will pass through my classroom tomorrow so I figure I’m more at risk there than anywhere else.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 16/03/2020 21:14

I would yes. Still gotta go to work etc so I don't see how the pub is any more risky for me

PurpleDaisies · 16/03/2020 21:16

Don’t close until you are told to. The advice currently is for healthy people who aren’t at risk (and don’t have symptoms) to carry on.

This is totally wrong.

PantTwizzler · 16/03/2020 21:17

No. We aren't going to the pub and teenage DC aren't either. Very sorry indeed for those whose business is affected.

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 21:17

Thanks everyone, apologies I didn’t realise there was a Coronavirus thread.

Yes we do food. We are looking at what we can do to help those that are isolated, we are a small town and want to look after our regulars. I love our pub and don’t want people to think we are money grabbing by staying open as trust me it’s costing us more
To be open and staffed right now, however if we close before forced we get no help. Not that as far as insurance is concerned we will get regardless

Leithwalk · 16/03/2020 21:20

I don't understand how PP's will be carrying on going to the pub there aren't any mixed messages on this.
AVOID ALL BUT NON-ESSENTIAL SOCIAL CONTACT AND TRAVEL

I agree with you PP
We have been advised to completely avoid all but non-essential social contact and travel so...no? Not sure how much clearer the message could be on this

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 21:22

Right now I have 2 staff in and 3 customerS. Time to close my doors I think

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 21:23

All our food in the kitchen will be given to staff and locals in need. God knows what’s going to happen from here

I'm gobsmacked at the amount of posters on here ignoring government advice Hmm

DennisReynoldsDuster · 16/03/2020 21:26

I don’t understand the confusion over the advice. It was quite clear that even people showing no symptoms should avoid social contact unless absolutely necessary and not going to pubs was specifically mentioned

DennisReynoldsDuster · 16/03/2020 21:27

In fact I’m utterly appalled at people happily ignoring it. This isn’t how we are going to protect the elderly and vulnerable

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2020 21:29

I won’t be going to any bar or restaurant.

Dd plans to carry on regardless but she works in a bar so figures as she has to carry on working she may as well carry on socialising.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 16/03/2020 21:29

Nope, sorry wont be going. Especially as some people are just carriers and will not show symptoms. But they can pass to others.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 16/03/2020 21:30

Government are being quite sneaky here by not ordering businesses to close. Presumably they’d have to compensate you if they did.

BrokenBrit · 16/03/2020 21:31

You are doing right by closing up. I hope you get financial support in this difficult time.

The advice is now clear to us all. Do not go out to the pub/ theatre/ cafe/ restaurant etc!

eeeyoresmiles · 16/03/2020 21:35

I’m supposed to be going out at the weekend (dinner and drinks) and I haven’t cancelled yet. I’m a teacher in a school of over 700 kids, of which around 150 will pass through my classroom tomorrow so I figure I’m more at risk there than anywhere else.

It's not just about whether you are at risk, it's also about who you'll put at risk.

You'll have come from being exposed to 150 different school kids and then you'll take whatever bugs you're carrying to a restaurant and potentially pass them on to god knows who - people sitting nearby, the staff who clear away the plates and cutlery and wine glass you've used, and so on.

NoMoreDickheads · 16/03/2020 21:36

@GrumpyHoonMain IDK where you got that from but you're completely wrong- we're all advised to avoid pubs etc and unnecessary social contact.

No, I wouldn't go to the pub. I don't wanna die, or help kill people.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 16/03/2020 21:38

I am really sorry for you.

We have been told to avoid all non essential social contact and this does include pubs etc.

I am extremely cross that the Gov has not ordered all pubs to shut. Thsi would keep people safer as there will be idiots out there but also I hope it would mean you might be able to access some financial help x

KaptenKrusty · 16/03/2020 21:45

I mean they said don’t go - but the government are being actual dicks with this - either force closures or don’t - recommending you don’t go as the advice is just ridiculous- I’ve tickets for a theatre show tomorrow and if it was officially cancelled / closed I could get a refund/rebook for another time - as it stands though i just lose the money or I can attend!!

Makes no sense

Chesneyhawkes1 · 16/03/2020 21:46

I don't understand if I go to the pub/cafe why it's helping to kill people. But if I go to work I'm suddenly magically not able to catch it or pass it on?

Aspoonfullofjam · 16/03/2020 21:48

Sorry @SilverPepperOfTheStars I think you meant to say you’ve been criticised for ignored government advice And risking other people’s health in the process, not for bringing your mother for afternoon tea.

SilverPepperOfTheStars · 16/03/2020 21:50

@Aspoonfullofjam you say potato, I say potato....

TimeWastingButFun · 16/03/2020 21:55

Personally, no. My Dad has multiple health issues, three of which are on the at risk list and I look after him every day. I'm keeping home and keeping my profile low so that I can carry on making sure he's OK.

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 21:55

We actually now have a good few people in. Nowhere near our normal numbers but has picked up in last hour.
For me i wish we were forced to close then we may get help from insurance somehow I hope to god. We still have to pay our staff no way in hell we wouldn’t but have already had 2 staff leave today to go home which I totally understand.
