YABU yes
Yanbu no

Shameless I know. I have a small bar. People still coming but wondering at what point we should close our doors.

OP posts:

That's the spirit, OP. Pun intended. Best of luck. Wine

TeaAndDarkToast · 17/03/2020 00:32

No I would not as it is not essential and it's not safe.

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/03/2020 00:38

@Passthebubblyasn’t the poster who told you had blood on your hands.
I pointed out why elderly people could die if they did not follow government advice. That is all and I stand by that.
Your post was an attempt to find out if people were planning on putting themselves at risk by ignoring government advice.
I do not want anyone to “ feel like shit” right now for obvious reasons.

God no

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/03/2020 01:21

Im actually really annoyed with the pubs locally who are staying open.

There is a lot of talk about people supporting local pubs / businesses but how are they helping their local community to stay safe if they are choosing to stay open.

Im so annoyed with my local pub - on FB actively encouraging people to go in and sit it out until its over 😡 while NHS workers like me are going to work and facing this.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/03/2020 01:26

I also think its a travesty that some people have to wait to be forced to do the right thing before they actually do the right thing.

This is why Boris needs to be more directive because we just cant rely on people to do the right thing.

Pubs choosing to stay open beggars belief really.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 01:28

IfOnly that is beyond irresponsible and stupid and selfish .

It’s make me so tense reading that people are creating this tinder box of infections for a peak in three weeks that the NHS can’t meet.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/03/2020 01:28

People will not observe social distancing in pubs because alcohol even small amounts affect peoples inhibitions and they are more likely to throw caution to the wind.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 01:30

The whole point is it’s a place where we infect each other. Passing the drink when buying, going to the loo. Touching seats.

I just can’t believe people are doing it.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/03/2020 01:32

@MarshaBradyo it infuriates me . So much for people acting in the interests of the community.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 01:33

Wish they’d just close things, fine people, patrol streets style. People cannot be trusted to be safe.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/03/2020 01:44

In the NHS we are trying so hard to protect the vulnerable- of that group includes older people who have fought & survived war.
As far as i am concerned we have a moral duty to do all we can to protect these people from going through this awful (painful & debilitating) virus .

Seeing businesses going against the advice of not just the govt but also the WHO is really disappointing and saddens me.

I am truly sorry for the businesses that will suffer - but we all have a price to pay in this .
Because of my own job i will not be able to have contact with my own parents for months. If we could do as we wanted I would be ringing in sick for that time so that i don't need to isolate myself .
Thats not the right thing to do though.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 01:51

People do not get the magnitude of the crisis they are creating. The sheer amount of deaths per day.

ValleyoftheHorses · 17/03/2020 01:55

No but I don’t go to the pub anyway. I won’t be eating out though. It’s time to hunker down!

OneHanded · 17/03/2020 02:10

I will but I appreciate having sat in a very empty Caffè Nero this afternoon I am in the minority...

bettybeans · 17/03/2020 02:54

No. I really feel for businesses at the moment and as much as I'd love nothing more than a pub trip, I couldn't in all good conscience do that and then potentially carry a virus either to the people in the pub or back from the pub to the people I live with.

The govt needs to step up and leave people with no choice at all while simultaneously supporting the businesses affected. This "on your own heads be it, good luck" approach is pathetic and leaves business operators in a horrible position.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/03/2020 03:35

I'm.in two minds about this.

I'm supposed to be meeting a friend after work tomorrow for dinner. We meet up in a pub/restaurant every couple of months. I texted her this evening to ask if she wants to cancel but in the end we decided that we won't be nearer than 3 feet to anyone else whereas at work we are both much closer to lots of people all through the day. However we will make a firm decision this evening.

TwelveIslands · 17/03/2020 03:43

Why on earth are you in two minds? The message is clear - stay at home, avoid pubs etc.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 04:26

Emma skip it until the pandemic is past the peak. There’s nothing to consider.

MummyPop00 · 17/03/2020 08:00

No I won’t be going to the pub.

If there isn’t forced lockdown, there should be an enforced temporary hiatus on mortgage repayments, business rates, fuel bills etc etc etc

Ticklemeelmo · 17/03/2020 08:05

Fuck no. The government needs to actually order the temporary closure of pubs and restaurants to stop this being an option for people who are selfishly willing to continue spreading the disease, and to enable these venues to claim insurance. Bojo is still trying to prioritise the economy above everything else

AnneOfCloves · 17/03/2020 08:56

I’m sorry for so many people in the situation. Theatre, music, the arts, hospitality, non-food shops, those working for airlines who face going bust, zero hour contract workers... this is going to affect all of us financially and otherwise.

It’s not just the health issue, although that’s of course the most crucial.

Jux · 17/03/2020 14:22

DH is a guitarist, plays in pubs and clubs with his band; they are now watching all their gigs being cancelled for the foreseeable. This is his main source of income. We are going to be stuffed - we are not in particularly good financial place now as someone scarpered owing us thousands and we haven't recovered from that quite yet.

We are also both in the vulnerable class, so we're looking at having to isolate for months. No income at all then.
