feelingverylazytoday · 16/03/2020 23:18

No. We're basically on lockdown now, though it's not being called that.

GabsAlot · 16/03/2020 23:18

Im now classed as high risk so no sorry i cant be socialing-hope it works out you sound nice

Oly4 · 16/03/2020 23:18

Pretty disgusted by all these people carrying on as normal. I hope you don’t end up on a ventilator needing NHS care because if your stupidity

Oly4 · 16/03/2020 23:20

So sorry OP that this will hurt your business. These are awful times. But people should stay away

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2020 23:20

@FizzAfterSix bossy hysteria? Or government advice. People have been told do not go pubs . Elderly people especially need to practice social distancing.

Wehttam · 16/03/2020 23:21

Only a god damn fool would visit a bar or pub. Close your doors and don’t think about the money. It’s lives we are talking about!

AutumnRose1 · 16/03/2020 23:21

OP “ we are their family and we will look after them when we close”

We have a local cafe that’s like that, I totally understand. I wish you and your staff all the best. As they say somewhere (!) May this be your last sorrow Flowers

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 23:22

Thank you GabsAlot I always try to be and have the best regular customers ever!!! They would be banging my doors down every day for sure I just don’t know what to do for the best. Day by day seems the way to go I think

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2020 23:22

@Passthebubbly because the government have said elderly people cannot socialise or go to pubs! Nobody should be but especially high risk groups. Is there something wrong with you?

Wehttam · 16/03/2020 23:22

Also if you stay open you will have blood on your hands. Think about that for a second. You WILL regret this in a few months time.

AutumnRose1 · 16/03/2020 23:23

Wehtham “ Only a god damn fool would visit a bar or pub. Close your doors and don’t think about the money. It’s lives we are talking about!”

Imagining surviving this and then being homeless and starving after. No thanks.

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 23:25

Totally appreciate all the advice given, apart from 1 who was vile. I will never ever put money above health and only ever asked if you would still come to a pub at this pint as we have not been forced to close as yet but we are considering doing so to keep our staff and customers safe. I have my answer now thank you.

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2020 23:25

@Passthebubbly
Read the below from the government website and tell me again why you are encouraging elderly people to come to your pub.

What is social distancing?
Social distancing measures are steps you can take to reduce the social interaction between people. This will help reduce the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

We are advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) to be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures.
*This group includes those who are:
aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)

Avoid large gatherings, and gatherings in smaller public spaces such as pubs, cinemas, restaurants, theatres, bars, clubs

Avoid gatherings with friends and family. Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media.

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2020 23:27

Wet glad to here you are now considering doing so x post. And I was not being vile , it was the truth , initially you were talking about ignoring government advise and putting elderly people lives at risk.

Onceuponatimethen · 16/03/2020 23:29

No

GinnyStrupac · 16/03/2020 23:30

I had to drive through our nearest market town yesterday evening, and it was a sorry sight to see all the pubs lit up and open for business but looking nearly or completely empty. I do think that sticking to essential contact is necessary, but I hope the small businesses can find a way through and get the help they need from the government and insurers.

Like the OP says, it's her family livelihood, her staffs' livelihood - and, in a way, a social service for many who rely on the social contact. Loneliness and mental health issues - already at an all time high, seemingly - are not going to be helped by the current situation at all. I really hope as many of us as possible will pull together and help our more vulnerable citizens.

tinybluerose · 16/03/2020 23:32

I went to the pub tonight

DH was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and then a second caner just for good measure. Already on ace inhibitors

Advise is very confusing

6 people in pub

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 23:33

MyDcAreMarvel - I am a small business owner who has come on here and asked advice. I am more than ready to close my bag which solely feeds my 2 young children and pays my mortgage.
I will look after my customers in terms of food and day to day help as required.
I came on here to gauge opinion as to wether I should close despite the fact I still have customers so I can protect my staff despite the fact insurance will pay me nothing. In that time we still have to pay our staff, rent, rates etc.
But o came on here to gauge the public opinion. Do you want your local to stay open with in my case owners working solely behind the bar to serve you whilst paying the staff at home (rightly)
So who the hell are you to judge me?

To the PP working in a bank - again, it's the difference between essential and non essential risk. I agree, it's shit that you have to work in an environment where you're put at risk. But if you can't work from home or afford to leave your job, then it's an essential risk. But you DON'T then need to increase the risk (either to yourself or to others) by going to the pub. I work in a school, so I'm also at pretty high risk of catching it from one of the kids. But that doesn't mean it's OK for me to then go out on a Friday night and pass it on to my friends, or to anyone else I come into contact with. Or to pick it up at the pub and pass it on to the pupils back at school.

serialtester · 16/03/2020 23:33

I'm in self isolation and would love it if my local set up a virtual pub with meal/drinks/toilet roll deliverys and the usual banter!

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 23:34

GinnyStrupac 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Write to your MP about the insurance issue OP. The government needs to get heavy handed with insurers who are acting in this clearly unfair and immoral way.

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 23:39

I am loving the virtual pub idea, perhaps I could deliver a pie and pint to door steps.
I did have an idea of a free toilet roll with every pint 😂

It's crazy that we are expected to go to work (I work in a school) amongst 100's of people and then stay away from everyone else outside work. I get it, but I don't see the reasoning for keeping schools open if we are so much at risk by interacting with others.

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 16/03/2020 23:42

Virtual pub/delivery is a great idea
