Think on BBC

They are still trying to minimise it. Do they think we don’t have access to the news articles about Europe ?

dogseggs · 16/03/2020 17:08

DD works in a pub and got an email from them earlier today saying "government medical advice is that pubs should remain open". It's a farce.

SimonJT · 16/03/2020 17:08

I missed the cough bit, is it 14 days for new coughs or all coughs, e.g a cough someone has had a few weeks already?

covetingthepreciousthings · 16/03/2020 17:08

Is there going to be a list of the vulnerable groups who need to isolate themselves for 12 weeks from now?

Does asthma constitute as a vulnerable group?

Can we just go onto a lockdown already Sad

BackInTime · 16/03/2020 17:08

Why on earth are they telling people not to go to pubs or theatres etc. but keeping these places open? Absolute madness!

Because BoJo does not want to be the one to kill their businesses or he would have to compensate them.

The80sweregreat · 16/03/2020 17:08

Schools staying open then?

PrincessBubblegum40 · 16/03/2020 17:09

Omg I’m so sorry for all the people in the UK, your country is being run by twits. Avoid mass gatherings but let’s have schools full of children who are carriers of this virus. Lets listen to the advice from the WHO but then ignore it. Seriously what planet are they on.

Wolfiefan · 16/03/2020 17:09

Are they really saying that everyone with asthma needs to stay at home and away from anyone for 12 weeks.
And all elderly people? What about the ones who need carers?

covetingthepreciousthings · 16/03/2020 17:09

This is ridiculous, I think they need to stop talking and just have slideshows of bullet points of what exactly they mean.

Blewbell · 16/03/2020 17:09

Well this is clear as mud. This is just going to cause more confusion. By keeping pubs etc open they put workers at risk but crucially there doesn't need to be any government assistance to those businesses because the gov didn't shut them...this is all about protecting the purse and nothing to do with protecting lives.

millerjane · 16/03/2020 17:09

Cronyism

EastCoastDamsel · 16/03/2020 17:09

I think they are desperately relying on people like me to institute extreme social distancing ourselves before they have to legislate.

Not going to work though as most people don't think it applies to them.

FML - they're going to kill us

Sakura7 · 16/03/2020 17:09

Is there a possibility that legal action could be taken against the government for endangerment of lives? There is a woman in NI taking a case locally regarding the schools staying open.

XXYY · 16/03/2020 17:09

Mass gathering still allowed but no emergency support? Have I got it wrong? If so it would be disastrous! And no schools being mentioned!

BackInTime · 16/03/2020 17:10

Just give some clear advice FFS.

AxisOfDick · 16/03/2020 17:10

I think they’re going to sequester the old folk, and once that’s been done and people are used to it, they will let you take your kids out of school without any repercussions

SquirrelInTheOak · 16/03/2020 17:10

A lot of blustering from Boris and at this point I'm not really sure what's changed.
Awaiting more details from Chris Whitty (sp?) who has just started to speak and will hopefully make more sense and clarity than Big B.

Blueberryham · 16/03/2020 17:10

Not asthma? Or only if you have asthma and get offered flu jab?

Paperthinwalls · 16/03/2020 17:10

Christ on a bike. Either tell places to shut or don’t. People won’t listen to ‘try not to go’.
One parent I know pulled her child from school today, fair enough, but was happy to take her to the cinema on Sunday. People are still talking about making plans for Sunday lunch. Unless places shut then people will still go.
If restaurants stay open then they will be getting deliveries of food which will go to waste if no one comes in. If they shut the that won’t happen.

adaline · 16/03/2020 17:10

You now have to stay home for 14 days if you have symptoms or live with someone with symptoms.

SquirrelInTheOak · 16/03/2020 17:10

BackInTime - exactly!

fedup21 · 16/03/2020 17:10

What is the advice about pregnant people?

SquirrelInTheOak · 16/03/2020 17:11

And indeed, yy, PaperThin

BackInTime · 16/03/2020 17:11

If pubs and restaurants etc are open people will still goConfused

covetingthepreciousthings · 16/03/2020 17:11

Not asthma? Or only if you have asthma and get offered flu jab?

I have asthma, and am offered the flu jab every year, so presuming this means me.
