Think on BBC

OP posts:
selfisolate · 16/03/2020 17:22

right, so taking this to mean not taking ds swimming? not meeting with his friend this weekend?
only going out where there are no people ? eg beach (its empty). or food shop.

Userwhatevernumber · 16/03/2020 17:22

When does over 70/high risk people self-isolation start? Today? Next week?

MorrisZapp · 16/03/2020 17:23

Same old response on here.

We need lockdown! They're killing us!

(inconvenience to daily life suggested)

I can't do that! Do they think I can just xyz??

BorneFeet · 16/03/2020 17:23

Er... I think the point is that the experts are saying different things?

Not the UK experts. the scientists behind that letter were not experts in viruses.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:23

Totally clear Grin
Yeah right!!

HeronLanyon · 16/03/2020 17:23

Lizzie that what was said from the weekend those over 70 and those with the most serious conditions for 12 weeks (. ‘Maybe a little longer’ was chucked in later) shielded social contact.

fedup21 · 16/03/2020 17:23

It wasn’t clear at all!

What is a mass gathering?

Should pregnant women be at work? Teaching? Nursing? Working in a shop?

covetingthepreciousthings · 16/03/2020 17:23

This is all so unclear, have we all just got to await employment guidelines now? If you fall into a vulnerable group who should be avoiding unnecessary travel / social interaction for 12 weeks, does this mean you shouldn't go to work if you're in a public facing role? Will employers support this move?

TheReluctantCountess · 16/03/2020 17:23

500 kids? More like 1500 in some schools, plus 20 or so adults serving or supervising.

Chanel05 · 16/03/2020 17:23

So what do you do if you're a pregnant teacher. 12 weeks of minim contact but yet cannot do my job from home.

TonytheDog · 16/03/2020 17:24

Also, we don't all have cinemas, bars and theatres on our door step! Are they just talking to people in London?

"Working closely with all our partners around the world to coordinate our response". Not.

joffreyscoffees · 16/03/2020 17:24

I actually think this is being handled OK right now.. I work for the NHS and have been working on some COVID projects.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:24

Most scientists agree with WHO.
Trust the government if you want. The same government who has already lied to you about this virus and said children only get it mildly and no children have died.

middleager · 16/03/2020 17:25

Compare this to the Irish PM, who was clear, decisive and quick to act.

DippyAvocado · 16/03/2020 17:25

They really need measures to compel businesses to tell the workers to work from home. Presenteeism has become such an ingrained concept in many businesses that a recommendation simply isn't enough.

Also, it's clear how fast it is spreading in the UK now. Just a week ago it was suggested we were a month behind Italy but things have obviously started to move much faster.

elfycat · 16/03/2020 17:25

So my DD who has a cold (seriously, it's her usual cold symptoms - raging temp for 48 hours, productive cough, nosebleeds - then better daily) has just imprisoned us all for 2 weeks.

Then we'll go back out and will actually get COVID-19 and have to spend another 2 weeks in?

I should have bought more tonic water...

BarbedBloom · 16/03/2020 17:26

I don't mind a lockdown but people are concerned as they don't know who that is and whether it includes work etc

Greenkit · 16/03/2020 17:26

How can we lock down.

Partner is a.police Sgt and I work in custody as do many of our colleagues, who is looking after the children, when we have to work....

HeronLanyon · 16/03/2020 17:26

Absolutely shocking. They needed to organise themselves and maybe have a power point. They don’t even have names up. Guy on right as we look (cmo?) really confused things when he talked about ‘most serious conditions’. He started in number 3 of books four but ended up in no 2.
I’m at the Bar - absolutely chocking advocacy street time we need total clarity.
Pp who’s waiting for summary later has it right.

EasyLifer · 16/03/2020 17:26

Watching it now. It's all very vague.

I would like to see some bullet point 'rules' of definate do this, don't do that, so that we are all clear.

Skybluepink123 · 16/03/2020 17:26

I’ve got 3 dcs with significant health problems which means that, by the sounds of it, they’ll have to stay home for 12 weeks. DD is already ill with CV symptoms so I’ve just had to break it to DH that he has to stay home for 14 days, it’s not gone down well!

DippyAvocado · 16/03/2020 17:26

Also, we don't all have cinemas, bars and theatres on our door step! Are they just talking to people in London?
They did say London was weeks ahead of some other regions.

sqirrelfriends · 16/03/2020 17:27

Why so many suggestions from Boris. Don't suggest what to do, enforce it!

PoisoningPigeons · 16/03/2020 17:27

A lot of (ironically furiously emotional) flailing from the Boris faithful on this thread.
