I have just received this from my GP (and yes, it was recieved in capital letters, I haven’t edited it):

COVID-19: FOLLOWING LATEST GUIDANCE, Edited out MEDICAL CENTRE WILL BE OPERATING A TELEPHONE CONSULTATION ONLY SERVICE. ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN ASSESSED, THE CLINICIAN WILL DECIDE IF A FACE TO FACE CONSULTATION IS NEEDED. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO PROTECT OUR PATIENTS AND STAFF. IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BOOKED IN THE NEAR FUTURE, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED, DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY.THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

Is that unnecessary and rude? I haven’t even seen a doctor at that surgery since eleven months ago, it’s not like I’m hounding at their door every day and a walking risk.

I get that it is important and needs to be clarified but wtf, does anyone else think it’s really rude to send spam messages to random people in that tone of manner?

@SuburbanFraggle

Even a small practice can have thousands of patients. You mentioned how you haven't been there recently. It seems you wanted them to sort and filter the message according to how recently you've been, or if you're taking the Mick. That shows a very childish and self-centred mentality.

Wtf? How? I said I haven’t been there recently because, well, it’s true, I haven’t been there in almost a year. I wasn’t asking or wanting or expecting any businesses to filter out any messages to me.

Either you don't understand you are one of thousands or you don't care and wanted special attention: oh, that's Karen, leave her off the message, she's sensible and doesn't need telling.

Who is Karen? I didn’t say I didn’t need telling, I asked if I would be unreasonable to complain and was told by a majority: YES, so I said Ok then, I won’t complain, but people are still telling me off for thinking of putting in a complaint... even though I didn’t, and have also said I won’t.

You are being bollocked for being alive in 2020 and presumably not knowing what spam is or rather not knowing the difference between Spam and an official and vital public service announcement.

Well, I’m so sorry for existing, how dare I be alive in 2020, I will make sure to shout at my parents for daring to birth me back in the 1980s

I’ve been schooled on what spam is, and obviously didn’t know what it was when I posted this thread, but I do now. So.. apart from an admittance, what do you want?

To even think of complaining makes you sound as if you are hard work.

Well, thoughts are thoughts. If people thinking thoughts in their head made them hard work, people as a whole wouldn’t do anything, ever.

As if you are one of those people who complain that an ambulance is in your spot while they are saving his life.

Not remotely true. You’re just assuming. Wrongly.

annamie · 19/03/2020 09:16

OP, are you going to explain why you called the text ‘spam’?

crapette · 19/03/2020 09:21

@JesusInTheCabbageVan - I see what you did there! Grin

OhLook · 19/03/2020 10:06

Hopefully she won't come and explain. Hopefully she will just let the thread die, like it should have done days ago.

crapette · 19/03/2020 10:21

OP has name changed and was back a couple of posts ago.

I got basically the same message as I imagine did most of the country. The caps are so it's easier to read for people squinting at their phones. It's direct and clear as unfortunately thats necessary.

There are so many threads on here proving that "advising" doesn't work so they are telling. Simple as.

Despite notices saying stay away if you have x y z symptoms people are idiots. Someone with symptoms presented at a local docs. They have since been diagnosed. I dread to think how many vulnerable people they Infected while in that surgery with a highly contagious airborne virus that can live on surfaces for hours.

A text message contains a max 160 characters (that's letters, numbers, spaces, punctuation).

This text isn't rude or unnecessary (especially if verbatim).

It's too the point and so generic, as it should be. Every single person with a registered mobile phone number would have received the same message.

I received something similar and so did my fiancee (different days tho¿).

I've had calls and texts from various hospital departments to cancel various appointments ... Only one still open for my finger ... See pic ... To make sure it's healing properly.

I had my fingernail removed due to suspected nail cancer. ... Results finally came through, saying that although I had pigment under the nail, it's now removed but was clear of cancer.... Phew

Hopefully I won't need the large bandage any more.
