I have just received this from my GP (and yes, it was recieved in capital letters, I haven’t edited it):

COVID-19: FOLLOWING LATEST GUIDANCE, Edited out MEDICAL CENTRE WILL BE OPERATING A TELEPHONE CONSULTATION ONLY SERVICE. ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN ASSESSED, THE CLINICIAN WILL DECIDE IF A FACE TO FACE CONSULTATION IS NEEDED. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO PROTECT OUR PATIENTS AND STAFF. IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BOOKED IN THE NEAR FUTURE, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED, DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY.THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

Is that unnecessary and rude? I haven’t even seen a doctor at that surgery since eleven months ago, it’s not like I’m hounding at their door every day and a walking risk.

I get that it is important and needs to be clarified but wtf, does anyone else think it’s really rude to send spam messages to random people in that tone of manner?

"People really need to fucking think before they act like dicks. Healthcare staff, in fact all staff, put up with ridiculous amounts of abuse and shitty behaviour in their line of work."

@TheNamesJames - I was coming to say exactly that - you DID think before making the complaint - you asked the question here, and have accepted the answer, and you haven't (and won't) complain.

Taddda · 17/03/2020 16:28

It's just poor timing Op- Also the caps do make it come across as 'shouty, but they really do have to make things clear right now- I don't think you deserve some of the comments- you asked a question, you know the answer -
People are a bit heightened right now....

Cannot believe you are complaining about this. Do you want them to send you a bunch of flowers with a wee informative note inside it?!?
They are giving you essential information, who cares if it’s in capital letters?

Fedupwithex · 17/03/2020 17:32

What a fantastic first world problem,” my GP sent me a text in capital letters, they sent it to everyone at the surgery, I agreed to receiving texts but don’t like the tone“....🙄 it’s a blanket statement, you absolutely need to get a grip and stop thinking everything is about you.

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 17:35

I'm thrilled gp are taking tough measures to keep themselves safe.

We need them to be safe and to remain our first line of support in these awful times.

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 17:35

I only wish they had done it sooner

YABVVU. Get a grip . Get a life

SnoozyLou · 17/03/2020 17:43

I think capitals are always unnecessary and rude.

I would let it go though.

Fiona5353 · 17/03/2020 17:52

Get a grip!

Tigerlilly17 · 17/03/2020 17:59

As a primary care nhs worker in An nhs Gp Surgery, this is a standard message being sent across the country to reduce footfall into the surgery that will put the vulnerable at risk. Anyone at risk is being kept away where possible. Despite this and the fact it’s on the news 24/7, people are STILL turning up with symptoms despite huge signs on the doors, refusing to wash/gel hands, and going out and about when they don’t need to. If we have to rely on certain members of the public we are all screwed. It’s for the protection of you and others. Go’s will still see people if they feel they need to.

Rumnraisin · 17/03/2020 18:02

You are not a random person - you are registered at this GP surgery and they are giving patients important updated information.

mammy28 · 17/03/2020 18:07

Behave yursel wummin!

247SylviaPlath · 17/03/2020 18:17

Yes you would be unreasonable to complain. GO surgeries are on their knees. Support them or risk no GP services.

csigeek · 17/03/2020 18:17

Complete over reaction to a bog standard blanket message! They won’t be picking and choosing who they send it to, it will just go to all patients! Chill your boots! The last thing they need is people complaining about a text being in capitals!!

247SylviaPlath · 17/03/2020 18:18

GP clearly

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/03/2020 18:20

The OP has accepted it would be unreasonable to complain.

She has not complained.

deandra · 17/03/2020 18:21

GET A GRIP 😳.... people like you just looking for ANY EXCUSE to be OFFENDED.

Percypopper · 17/03/2020 18:24

I’m actually smiling after reading your OP because it’s so absurd and nuts that I’m equal parts frustrated and amused

SameOldHorrorStory · 17/03/2020 18:32

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

I’m a he, not a she! But thank you for understanding. I asked whether I would be unreasonable to complain, was told yes I would be massively unreasonable, and then I said okay then, I won’t complain, but still being berated on here for complaining even though I didn’t complain!!

Libbee49 · 17/03/2020 18:36

Standard letter. Nothing wrong with it. Would you want to sit in surgery waiting room full of people not knowing who might have the virus? I don’t think so. They sent it by email to make sure you got it so good for them.

leesylou · 17/03/2020 18:43

All txt msgs I receive from the NHS are in capital letters. It makes the message stand out. Doesn’t mean it’s aggressive or rude. At times like this the wording has to be direct. My GP surgery as put into lockdown one day last week as some idiot walked in and announced he thought he’d got Coronavirus 🙄😒

mussymummy · 17/03/2020 18:43

Jesus why was there not a voting button for this thread, guaranteed 100% YOU ARE BEING VERY VERY VERY UNREASONABLE

Binting · 17/03/2020 18:49

You’re an idiot for even getting upset with the message. If it takes something so insignificant in a time of global crisis to upset you then you are in for a fucking bumpy ride! Time to pull up your big girl pants OP.
