I have just received this from my GP (and yes, it was recieved in capital letters, I haven’t edited it):

COVID-19: FOLLOWING LATEST GUIDANCE, Edited out MEDICAL CENTRE WILL BE OPERATING A TELEPHONE CONSULTATION ONLY SERVICE. ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN ASSESSED, THE CLINICIAN WILL DECIDE IF A FACE TO FACE CONSULTATION IS NEEDED. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO PROTECT OUR PATIENTS AND STAFF. IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BOOKED IN THE NEAR FUTURE, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED, DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY.THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

Is that unnecessary and rude? I haven’t even seen a doctor at that surgery since eleven months ago, it’s not like I’m hounding at their door every day and a walking risk.

I get that it is important and needs to be clarified but wtf, does anyone else think it’s really rude to send spam messages to random people in that tone of manner?

OP posts:

I think you should consider it as an important Public Service Announcement by the local surgery and by the Dept of Health. Not spam.

chatterbugmegastar · 16/03/2020 21:09

Be thankful you received a communication. My useless bloody GP surgery cancelled my appointment for next week on patient access and I only discovered it was cancelled by chance.

Spent 45 minutes trying to get through to the surgery on the phone at lunchtime today to be (finally) told - oh no it hasn't been properly cancelled - you may get a phone chat with the doctor but we'll decide on the day -

What the actual????

The receptionist also said that all appointments TODAY were just cancelled. No other appointments offered

What is going on?

chatterbugmegastar · 16/03/2020 21:11

Oh and just an FYI - we have zero cases of diagnosed Covid-19 here

FudgeBrownie2019 · 16/03/2020 21:19

YABU. Understandably, I think, because everyone is more fraught and more sensitive at the moment, but still U.

At our local GP the staff are amazing; they've been our GP surgery for almost 12 years and they've never failed to be the best team imaginable. They go the extra mile, they are always kind and they even provide tissues for when you're having a shit time. But they are also massively overwhelmed with patients wanting x, y and z at a time when resources are thin on the ground. They have to be tough in order to work out who needs to be seen and who can go to bed with two paracetamol and the latest Sun Sister novel. It's their job to stand their ground when things like this happen. It's also their job to send out no-nonsense definitively worded texts that everyone (even the grossly over entitled knobdogs who want seeing because they've got nits) can understand.

maddiemookins16mum · 16/03/2020 21:20

Please dont be that person, let your GP surgery concentrate on far, far more important things than having to respond to your, quite frankly, ridiculous complaint.

Goodgollymiss · 16/03/2020 21:34

U ok hun?

Beesisabuzzin · 16/03/2020 21:43

Rather than appreciate how hard everyone in the NHS is working right now, you get a bit offended about a text message? Well aren't you a little delicate flower.

WifflyWaffle · 16/03/2020 21:51

Not remotely ‘scolding’. Think you need to be more of an adult about this.

nonicks · 16/03/2020 22:08

Really?
I’m astounded by the lack of support you’ve received on this thread.
That message, that was personally sent to you alone is both rude, insensitive and quite aggressive.
Thank god my close elderly relative who is currently isolation didn’t receive that.
I’m offended on your behalf! How dare the drs send that out.
Totally unreasonable.
Ps - get over yourself and maybe see the bigger picture you self absolved twat

Cohle · 16/03/2020 22:11

I think the message is absolutely fine. Why would you waste their time complaining at a time like this?

I'm glad you've decided to chill out.

Fr0g · 16/03/2020 22:11

being in upper case is a bit odd - but they probably have a lot on, and can do without virussy people turning up to infect them.

Cheeserton · 16/03/2020 22:13

Are you some kind of dunce?

TwatCat · 16/03/2020 22:14

Hmm rude???

YABU

PardonWhat · 16/03/2020 22:15

A nice, polite, clear message.
You need to get a grip!

JuggleBug · 16/03/2020 22:16

What is the problem? It's a perfectly clear and expected message.

They aren't sending it to you personally OP. It's obviously been sent to all of their patients.

Iveneverwonanoscar · 16/03/2020 22:17

Nothing wrong it. At least it was communicated to you. YABU.

nonicks · 16/03/2020 22:17

in isolation
self absorbed

Jellykat · 16/03/2020 22:19

Bloody hell the NHS is at the forefront of this shit, and you want to complain about a text in capitals, seriously?

Isleepinahedgefund · 16/03/2020 22:38

Oh FFS

Thurmanmurman · 16/03/2020 22:44

Get a grip. As if the NHS don't have enough to deal with, without dealing with complaints from idiots about a non-issue 🙄

Emmelina · 16/03/2020 22:52

It’s clear and to the point, and has been sent to everyone registered.

Emmelina · 16/03/2020 22:57

It probably didn’t help with your interpretation with it being in all caps. I received this one x5 (I’m the registered number for everyone under this roof!) early March before the conditions were tightened more.

titnomatani · 16/03/2020 23:02

You do realise they've contacted ALL the patients at the surgery with the same message and haven't just drafted that message specifically for you?!

Glitteryone · 16/03/2020 23:04

Massive overreaction! Nothing wrong with this text at all!

georgialondon · 16/03/2020 23:05

How is it rude. Capitals can be rude but it was an important message.
