I have just received this from my GP (and yes, it was recieved in capital letters, I haven’t edited it):

COVID-19: FOLLOWING LATEST GUIDANCE, Edited out MEDICAL CENTRE WILL BE OPERATING A TELEPHONE CONSULTATION ONLY SERVICE. ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN ASSESSED, THE CLINICIAN WILL DECIDE IF A FACE TO FACE CONSULTATION IS NEEDED. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO PROTECT OUR PATIENTS AND STAFF. IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BOOKED IN THE NEAR FUTURE, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED, DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY.THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

Is that unnecessary and rude? I haven’t even seen a doctor at that surgery since eleven months ago, it’s not like I’m hounding at their door every day and a walking risk.

I get that it is important and needs to be clarified but wtf, does anyone else think it’s really rude to send spam messages to random people in that tone of manner?

I received a phone call from my doctors receptionist stating the same but then I had to hold for my doctor - I have a low immunity, kidney problems and am housebound.
He has already advised me to stay at home and isolate myself now (housebound anyway so ok) but he has also done a 2 month prescription, which will be delivered by chemist tomorrow.
I m slightly shocked to be honest - we have no known cases in our area!
I changed doctors before Christmas and this doctor is being extremely pro-active with my health. I even got a home visit from the nurse the day after I changed to give me the flu vaccine - old gp told me repeatedly that I was not at risk (I've been hospitalized twice in the past when it turned to pneumonia).
They have also want put my name on a list of "covid volunteers" so that if I do need any help or shopping I can call and get help.
I do have family and friends that will help me and have said this, but they want to make sure I'm ok.
I have been thoroughly disgusted by the recent behavior of a certain percentage of the population and how quickly people have looked at how to complain or kick off!
You should be ashamed and instead of complaining why not check on a family member/neighbour instead?

ilovepixie · 16/03/2020 23:19

Fuck me some people think everything is about them!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 16/03/2020 23:20

What's aggressive about it? 🤔

pinklillie · 16/03/2020 23:23

It could be in capitals so that the elderly and those with issues around vision are able to see it clearly.

Wehttam · 16/03/2020 23:25

OP it makes you look a bit of a dick considering the state of the NHS and the calamity they are facing. Find offence elsewhere because there’s none in that message.

Nillynally · 16/03/2020 23:25

Wtf are you talking about? Get a fucking life.

caketiger · 17/03/2020 01:29

That's completely fine. Smile

I’m not Pursuing it. I have admitted to being unreasonable given people’s votes and response. But continue to be berated over an issue I have backed down upon. I don’t know what else I can do now apart from continue to defend myself and apologise and say I’m sorry, continuously.

What will GPs actually be doing during this time though? All telephone or online appointments?

Sidge · 17/03/2020 07:02

@Graciebobcat Im not a GP but work in primary care. My GPS are seeing essential patients, phoning all the others, fielding hundreds of calls a day, still visiting those in nursing homes and the terminally ill.

There is still a lot of “routine” work going on - paperwork, referrals, blood results, as well as doing telephone consultations. People are still getting ill and dealing with health issues as well as Coronavirus. Their usual work, just fewer face to face consults and more things being done over the phone where possible.

probablysue · 17/03/2020 07:09

Next time you think about posting something like this, take a deep breath, count to 10 and think am I being unreasonable. It’s not about me.

BootShakin · 17/03/2020 07:17

If you are not trolling then you are a massive sensitive moron.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 17/03/2020 07:18

You could just leave the thread OP. Or ask to have the thread removed (unlikely).

MarginalGain · 17/03/2020 07:22

Are you some kind of dunce?

Roussette · 17/03/2020 07:29

I appreciate OP that you now know YWBU.

However. I am at a loss to understand the human race anymore. With all that is going on, people are being so unreasonable. Nitpicking. Complaining to those that are trying their best to keep the country running. Not just you OP, you've taken it on the chin. But other people.

Just be kind to each other. Let's try and get through this. Here is a video of the Italian airforce trying to lift the spirits of their people, Italy having suffered the most losses in Europe.

Chill everyone.

Ugzbugz · 17/03/2020 07:35

What is the world coming to? ABSOLUTE SNOWFLAKE

We will all be wiped out in 50 years because everything will offend everyone and nobody will be able to communicate with anyone.

cricketmum84 · 17/03/2020 07:40

I think you should complain.

The extremely stressed out GP surgery staff who are putting themselves on the front line definitely deserve a laugh at your expense.

Anniegetyourgun · 17/03/2020 07:51

Here's another thing not to take personally, OP: you are now a victim of the global internet habit of not RTFT. You have backed down, but there will be another 14+ pages to come reiterating the first responses. Most of these posters won't even have noticed that what they're saying has already been said at least 100 times - and the rest won't care. "Cancel the cheque" indeed.

Toomboom · 17/03/2020 07:58

I can't see how you think it is rude at all??? It is an important message sent out to ALL registered at the surgery, including those who haven't seen the doctor in a long time.

Mlou32 · 17/03/2020 08:24

@thenamejames it's all very well "continuously saying you're sorry". But these poor staff are working their arsed off. After a busy, stressful day, your complaint could have been the one that broke the camera back and really upset the member of staff who constantly gets shat on for just doing their job. Would you have "continuously said you were sorry" to them for causing more stress on top of their jobs once you realised you were completely in the wrong?

People really need to fucking think before they act like dicks. Healthcare staff, in fact all staff, put up with ridiculous amounts of abuse and shitty behaviour in their line of work.

Hopefully you'll think about how you act in general from now on. However I sense that you are the sort of person who would call up tesco call centre having a go at the person on the other end of the phone because your delivery is 5 mins late.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 17/03/2020 09:26

I got this text message also, at no point have I thought it was rude or aggressive, just informative. Get a grip.

Saddler · 17/03/2020 10:13

Not sure what's wrong with it

alexasaymyname · 17/03/2020 10:19

What's the problem with it?

TheNamesJames · 17/03/2020 12:29

Okay, but the point is I didn’t do any of that. I asked if I would be unreasonable to complain, was told unanimously yes and then said, okay, I’m clearly being unreasonable so I won’t. And I didn’t. And yet still being called unreasonable over something I didn’t even do in the end.
