I have just received this from my GP (and yes, it was recieved in capital letters, I haven’t edited it):

COVID-19: FOLLOWING LATEST GUIDANCE, Edited out MEDICAL CENTRE WILL BE OPERATING A TELEPHONE CONSULTATION ONLY SERVICE. ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN ASSESSED, THE CLINICIAN WILL DECIDE IF A FACE TO FACE CONSULTATION IS NEEDED. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO PROTECT OUR PATIENTS AND STAFF. IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BOOKED IN THE NEAR FUTURE, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED, DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY.THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

Is that unnecessary and rude? I haven’t even seen a doctor at that surgery since eleven months ago, it’s not like I’m hounding at their door every day and a walking risk.

I get that it is important and needs to be clarified but wtf, does anyone else think it’s really rude to send spam messages to random people in that tone of manner?

There was such a button available, when it was originally posted in AIBU before MN mods moved it to corona forum, but before that and at the last count 99% thought I was being unreasonable. So I thought I’d take that on board 😂

You’re completely unreasonable. They have to really get the point across. Everyone will receive the same message and they are guided by WHO and the government. I received similar from our doctors surgery. My reaction was, ‘yes, that makes perfect sense!’ 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's fine they are stretched and some go for a bruised knee. They won't be sending people individual texts it will be a blanket text.

My local vet’s receptionist says you have to sign your pet into them, then wait in your vehicle or go home. In her words “we’re running a drop off and naff off service”. I would have loved to have seen your reaction to that.

The message is fine. Probably in capitals so it stands out. This is a pandemic you know.

That message did what it is designed to do: get your attention.

It's an important message conveying very important information. The message is not about you in any way it is simply there to do an important job and it did so.

I also recieved a similar message but wasn't offended in the slightest because unlike you I have a life (and more than 2 brain cells to rub together).

In short: get over yourself and find something more productive to do with your time.

It's not a random spam message? It's a message sent to ALL patients registered at that surgery!

Any institution who deals will large numbers of the general public have to be absolutely clear and emphatic about things like this because a lot of people are either too intellectually challenged to understand anything else, or too entitled to pay attention.

As someone who works on the frontline for the NHS, I would just like to say WTF!!

Do you have any idea how stressful it is for everyone working for the NHS at the moment?!?! We are understaffed and underfunded anyway so add onto that the pressure of a global pandemic and staff being off with the virus it adds up to stress. Most people that work for the NHS do it because they are passionate about health equality and their patients. Some people have no idea how lucky they are to have the NHS. People should be supporting workers and all the emergency services, not causing trouble for people for absolutely no reason!!

If anyone does want to support the nhs, check out ‘hit the ambulance gamers’. Be kind everyone x
