To feel upset about holidays

I know this is really selfish and entitled but is anyone else feeling a bit devastated that their holiday is probably totally fucked this year?

Due to go to Spain (Benidorm!) in 8 weeks and it’s looking very unlikely.

😭😭😭😭

I’m talking about going to a remote area for a week, not going to to Bali or Thailand!

carlywurly · 22/03/2020 08:12

Ah, I misunderstood. You're totally irresponsible to be trying to go anywhere at the moment. Presumably there are locals in your remote area? They will not want you pitching up even to self isolate.

crustycrab · 22/03/2020 08:40

What? You don't go anywhere. Remote areas have less hospital resources.

Stay at home

BiddyPop · 22/03/2020 09:03

We hadn’t booked yet but had planned a holiday that definitely won’t now happen.

If things calm down enough int he summer, we will organise a SC break in this country and DD and I will probably go for a couple of nights camping .

But we may well not have any holidays this year. But staying safe and well, and helping others to stay safe and well, is far more important than 1 summer holiday, in the big picture of a lifetime.

Rose I’d read this

mabelbagel · 22/03/2020 09:08

I'm upset that this is going to ruin summer. I had so many plans

Thisisworsethananticpated · 22/03/2020 09:13

I’ve gone from giving a shit about holidays to worrying about my country , the world , and my livelihood

And my ability to support my kids and keep us all sane and healthy

Fuck holidays , this weird society where we all work long hours and then reward ourselves with long haul holidays is part of the reason our world is in such a mess

Sometimes in a weird way I think this Virus is a well
Needed wake up call

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/03/2020 10:00

I’ve rescheduled one week of my May holiday to the end of September but I can’t do anything about the second week yet as I want to cancel but Sykes aren’t offering a refund or even a voucher. I’ve got no other time to take it so might have to move it next year.

I can give a shit about what’s going on in the world etc and holidays, I really don’t think it’s mutually exclusive

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 10:17

Glad you moved the May one it will be crazy at that time

Worse I’d love for everyone to reassess our approach to holidays I doubt it will happen though. People will go nuts again when it’s over. Unless flights are much more expensive (no bad thing)

Teateaandmoretea · 22/03/2020 10:18

I think it will be quite a while before we are freely travelling internationally again.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 22/03/2020 10:41

Worrying about holidays just feels so inconsequential
But , I respect that people do Wink

I hope this is a game changer, by the end of this I can’t see what we do now being the norm anymore

Cheap flights won’t exist as
Airlines won’t be able to afford it , and the norm (for
Some people) of frequent business travel and hen /stag weekends will become unaffordable

No bad thing

Mittens030869 · 22/03/2020 10:52

At the end of the day, this is about how we feel and that's something no one can help. I probably would be very disappointed that my DH and I won't get our anniversary mini-break this year, it's something we've done most years, and is something we prioritise, if I had the energy to feel anything, which I don't. I'm sure my DH is feeling disappointed, but he doesn't say so, as obviously it's minor in the overall scheme of things.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/03/2020 12:40

As well as being disappointed, I feel bad that postponing my holidays means I'm taking business away from my cat sitter. She only started her business last year so hopefully people will go back to her when this is over.

Msloverlover · 22/03/2020 12:46

Definitely more upset about not being able to see may parents, siblings or nieces for the foreseeable future. Oh and all the people that are going to lose their livelihoods and their lives.

KoalasandRabbit · 24/03/2020 12:54

Just wondering how FuzzyDuck1 is getting on in Thailand now. Surprised people went at this time.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 24/03/2020 12:57

@MadameBee
of course we are all having no holidays this year. Do not go. Do not go to a show in April. Think of this a s a war
