To feel upset about holidays

I know this is really selfish and entitled but is anyone else feeling a bit devastated that their holiday is probably totally fucked this year?

Due to go to Spain (Benidorm!) in 8 weeks and it’s looking very unlikely.

😭😭😭😭

I think it is the "nothing to look forward to" aspect that is hard OP.
Particularly for those who work - your free time is very precious when you spend a long time at work.
Spending free time together as a family/couple is also precious.

Not being able to put a time limit on this situation is also hard.

Of course, hoping that you/your nearest and dearest don't die as a result of this virus is the priority but, as Meghan said, it's not enough just to survive😉

We'll all have to get creative with how to create the feeling of being on holiday, at home.

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 22:53

@andpeggy1

I am so sorry for you Sad

The Liverpool Charity match has been cancelled :( this was our mini holiday. We're really gutted.
Doesn't mean I can't appreciate the enormity of everything. But this personally affected us and it is a bit disappointing.

Meaniebobeanie · 15/03/2020 22:54

I've a Easter and summer holidays booked but not aboard but will obviously still have to cancel if we go in to lock down in the UK. Im actually ok about it was a bit disappointed but it's like overridden now by just getting on with it. Just want to do the right thing now I guess. I don't blame you for being disappointed sunny Spain would of been nice

showmethegin · 15/03/2020 22:54

Were meant to be going to Sicily in June, big family holiday. Have been going through a very stressful and long house purchase, working full time, studying for a degree part time and have just found out we're pregnant (happily!) so I was really looking forward to lying next to a pool for two weeks!!

I do appreciate that the safety of people is more in important, it is also possible to feel gutted about stuff that affects you personally.

Sausagis · 15/03/2020 22:54

Yep. Meant to be in France in 4 weeks. Hotel now shut.

I think they won't refund but will change the date. I am struggling to see an end to this in 2020. Rebook for 2021? But can the world survive (financially I mean) with no tourism, nothing other than supermarkets, for a year? So I go from being sad about my holiday to worrying about global recession on a scale I personally cannot imagine. Shit.

Midsommar · 15/03/2020 22:55

My long-awaited honeymoon to Santorini is booked for the last week of May. And now it may not happen. Not been on holiday since 2017.

So yes, OP, totally feel your pain :(

notanotherjigsawpiece · 15/03/2020 22:56

I feel devastated that there aren't enough respirators and ICU beds for the predicted number of critical patients. I feel devastated that thousands more are going to die. I feel devastated that the NHS as a system and the amazing staff are going to be totally fucked.

I feel this way too. But I’m also disappointed that we won’t be going on holiday this summer. I think it’s ok to admit this.

Rosiejim · 15/03/2020 22:56

People can be upset about more than one thing at any one time @HollyGoLoudly1 FFS - top marks for virtue signalling though. Some people don’t have any money or have been going through really awful times so the loss of money/a holiday they were looking forward to can be devastating

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 22:57

I am 45 and this is my first ever holiday
booked with friends rather than kids/family Sad

We have a family holiday booked end of June. Balance due tomorrow, it was booked on a credit card but mum feels that lying the balance is a bad idea and I can see why. There’s no guarantee her credit card company will cover her especially as we’d be paying the balance knowing of the issue.

StudentMummy19 · 15/03/2020 22:58

Yeah, I'm gutted, was supposed to be off to Australia in 3 weeks!

Wingedharpy · 15/03/2020 23:00

I think even Staycation type holidays will be affected eventually.
Lockdown, if it happens, will mean everything closed anyway so not a lot of point travelling miles just to sit in a room somewhere else.

SospanFrangipan · 15/03/2020 23:00

Yes, we're absolutely gutted as we were due to go on our first trip to Disneyland Paris on Saturday. We also had flights with Flybe so after having shelled out on more flights, it's been a double whammy. We've saved like mad for this too for our DS 3rd birthday. I know there's worse things happening, but you can't help feel disappointment when something doesn't go to plan.

StudentMummy19 · 15/03/2020 23:01

And I'm due to go to Cape Verde in July 🙄

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:03

@SospanFrangipan

That’s so shit Sad

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:05

@solomonsfish85

We are due to fly out on the 13th to Alicante

SusieOwl4 · 15/03/2020 23:09

Had ours cancelled and it was for a special anniversary . But the holiday company have been great ( unlike another one I took to court last year ) and sincerely hope they don’t go bust . In the bigger scheme of thinks I am disappointed that’s about it . But I am stressed about what is to come as have colleagues in Italy .

LaurieMarlow · 15/03/2020 23:14

I’m not sure why people find it difficult to understand being sad about more than one thing.

TigerBilly · 15/03/2020 23:16

I work In the tourist industry and your loss of holidays means my loss of job.

MadameBee · 15/03/2020 23:16
