This herd immunity thing is risky.
It could totally backfire with many more dead than countries who acted fast.
We won’t even have a true number of cases if they’re not testing unless hospitalised!
What about the vulnerable living at home alone? Who’s checking there ok after the 7 day period of feeling unwell?
How do you know if what you had was Coronavirus or just a bug?
If you think you’ve had it then go back to work and try to carry on as normal, who’s to say you won’t really catch it and play it down as you think you’ve already had it?
This is madness, almost feels like they are setting us up to fail.
If this was a movie I would be screaming at the tv by now,

Meruem · 13/03/2020 12:48

so this country really is just a big experiment then

I would say that about sums it up!
I think a backlash may well come though. Currently many people are still in denial, thinking it's not them or their loved ones who will die. Once it does start happening, people will get angry.

I actually hope with all my heart that the government are doing the right thing (even if I don't believe they are). I hope the "experiment" works and that we manage to fight this off in the way they've planned. But at the moment none of us know.

Reastie · 13/03/2020 12:49

@BigChocFrenzy and also it means numbers WILL get huge here given their argument means millions will get it. It’ll make the few thousand Italy has look good! I wonder when their current projection is to do things like shut schools and go on lockdown. May? June?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 12:49

Fuck, even ISIS are in on the act, telling their martyrish heroes how to avoid CV! (it is in the DM though....)

RhubarbTea · 13/03/2020 12:49

Yes! This x 1000. I am raging that the UK gov has said not to travel to Madrid unless essential but just welcomed a shit tonne of people from there to the UK to watch the footie. It's insane!

MurrayTheMonk · 13/03/2020 12:50

Some absolute bastard has stolen nearly all the gloves from one of my care services.
Just had to drive round all the chemists in town trying to get more. Angry
PPE in Short supply near me at the moment. Fucks sake.

Reastie · 13/03/2020 12:50

Extinction rebellion. What an apt name right now.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 13/03/2020 12:50

so this country really is just a big experiment then

I said this earlier in the thread, it is like they are using us as human guinea pigs while the world watches. They will either be triumphant or it will go down in flames as xxxxx die and we just abandon our must vulnerable people.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/03/2020 12:50

Hippy One reason that all cases in Germany were being checked by phone at least once daily

  • with police visit if no answer - is in case anyone suddenly becomes to ill to respond

It's not just checking they are keeping to the isolation and staying home

Of course that only covers those who are not "official cases", but just self-isolating with a cough or whatever

Reastie · 13/03/2020 12:53

Fuck, even ISIS are in on the act, telling their martyrish heroes how to avoid CV! (it is in the DM though....)

I have hideous imaginings of terrorists purposefully going to busy crowded places when first coming down with cv to further infect the public to make it spread as much as possible where they wish to create more terror. What an awful thought. I hope that’ll never happen.

Random18 · 13/03/2020 12:54

It don't think it's all BP medication that is mentioned?

That article has scared me as it's pretty close to home.

My GP surgery just called to cancel my smear test on Monday. They suggested I call next week to re-book. Hm, I wonder whether they really will be open for non-urgent appointments anytime soon?

Eeyoresstickhouse · 13/03/2020 12:57

@Random18 The most common one is ramipril I think. I know a few people on that one. Its the one my husband is on.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 12:59

I'm sure this has been said before, but a major part of the Govt alleged 'strategy' seems to be putting the onus on business to act before the Govt does.

I work (freelance) for a multinational. Their procedures are sometimes a bit of a PITA, but their strategy on protecting staff is spot on - travel bans, wfh, teleconf or skype rather than mtgs etc. No presentee-ism.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 13:00

reastie I rather suspect that spreading CV is not dramatic enough for them - I hope. Basically because how could you claim it?

Random18 · 13/03/2020 13:01

Eey I'm not sure if they are still on that one.

SubjectMatterExpert · 13/03/2020 13:03

Effectively, yes; as the government won’t take action to protect people; then, we are left to take individual action to protect vulnerable people close to us. This pits employees against employers and parents against schools/LEAs. We all have to have our own individual arguments with our bosses and schools. That’s what conservatism is. Individualism

BigChocFrenzy · 13/03/2020 13:04

random It sounds like the concern is about all the medicaments that work in the same way, not specific drugs
So no reason to worry about diuretics afaik, if you are on those

Cheeseismylife · 13/03/2020 13:04

My DH was taking the piss out of me 3 weeks ago when I said this was coming. He told me I was panicking for nothing, that it wouldn't be a problem here.
He has now admitted that I was right.
I wish I had been wrong. Sad

Before anyone wonders why I am thinking of such trivial things, I figure that if I'm locked down I might as well do something useful!
