Ffs! Should say As a former HCP

anonacfr · 13/03/2020 11:38

Ok question- say you have symptoms and self-isolate.
If symptoms are manageable and you stay home, are you tested at any point?

How can you be 100% sure it was C19 and not another unpleasant bug, and you think you're fine as you already had it, whereas it wasn't the case?
That would mean you could get it and/or still spread it.

And what about situation involving young children/children with additional needs, who might display mild symptoms (as seems to be the case) but not be able to verbalize what they are?

I think from what was said in yesterdays press conference, once symptoms Jane resolved you will be at very low risk of spreading the infection even if you still have done viral load in your system, therefore if you have cough/fever symptoms you need to be self isolating. Unfortunately this may mean self isolating several times over the next 6 months as there will be false alarms.

EgonSpengler2020 · 13/03/2020 11:42

have not Jane, no idea who she is jumping into my post.

Will we get our usual 2pm figures update today from PHE

Now they've stopped testing in the community the figures seem a bit pointless. It will only tell us the people in hospital that have it. Not a huge help, or particularly reassuring.

I am not listening to the government. I am staying in as much as I can. It won't necessarily stop me getting it but surely the less contact with others that I have, the lower the chances. I won't be visiting anyone because even if they aren't vulnerable, they may be in contact with someone who is and I don't want to spread it if I do get it. BJ may be ok with "many peoples loved ones dying" but I am not.

@ofwarren no surprise really
At some point one would assume teachers will start self isolating, so schools will have to close anyway.

From that article "healthy children with healthy adults in a school with routines is the best place for them to be"

Has he ever BEEN in a school? At this time of year most of the kids have a cough or snotty nose and ditto many teachers.

my local supermarket had hardly anything in today. weirdly, the fresh bread (the packaged stuff) was plentyful as were spice mixes.

NEW: In an internal email detailing coronavirus response which includes restricting travel and WFH provisions, the Daily Mail's head of HR writes- "The global position is moving so fast that the official government advice is no longer adequate enough to safeguard our staff"
Mark de Stefano at the financial times

So, the daily mail are praising the Tories in their paper but behind closed doors they are saying something else...

They could have routines and schooling at home - this is what they did in China, and presumably all the other - what is it now - 22 countries who have closed schools to slow spread (and evidence is that it has worked).

Why are they doing this in face of all the evidence? How DARE they say there is no evidence closing schools is effective - there IS evidence closing schools is part of what is effective. If they want to make a case they need to show us their evidence that contradicts all the evidence out there that this works.

ScatteredMama82 · 13/03/2020 11:55

I am as shocked as anyone at the lack of action being taken, BUT, look at Italy. Has closing schools really helped? Their numbers are still rocketing up.

Cases aren't going to go down straight away thought.
The disease has a long incubation period.
They also started with a partial lockdown, which means more people moving around to avoid restrictions, ironically probably spreading the disease more.

anonacfr · 13/03/2020 12:06

5 days is peak contagion time. Incubation is longer I believe?

People are worried now because the PM stood there last night and basically said your elderly loved ones are collateral damage - tough.

I think others have speculated that the scaling back of testing may be to give a false sense of reassurance to the populus as numbers will not seem so great.

Trouble is, trust in our governments and official bodies is at an all time low - how they handle this will be a benchmark for future trust - personally I don't think they're handling this at all well.

ofwarren · 13/03/2020 12:08

@Moomin8 absolutely and rightly so.
