Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

I have pretty bad anxiety which I think I have been managing quite well considering the circumstances but it's beginning to really get to me.

I just wish that we had an end in sight. I keep getting headaches (probably from stress) and then I'm worried that I've got it, even though I don't think that we have any confirmed cases in Cambridge.

I want to just stay in until it's all over but I have been taking my son out for a walk every day, wondering now if I should stop. The fresh air is good for him (he's 2 months) but I worry.

MORE: Italy's death toll from the #coronavirus outbreak rises to 631

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 17:27

ITALY reports 977 new cases of coronavirus and 168 new deaths, raising total to 10,149 cases and 631 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Thanks yolo I really hope things will be better in the summer and I can visit.

Heartbreaking news...

alloutoffucks · 10/03/2020 17:29

@Bluebutterfly90 I would carry on taking him out for a walk. Being inside every day is not good for either of you.

Tempuserregularposter · 10/03/2020 17:29

We can't not discuss the worst case scenario just in case it worries someone with health anxiety, if they are anxious then a thread full of people who's qualifications are not verified is not the place to be. If we get as bad as Italy then this advice may make the most vulnerable take better precautions.
That's not to say I agree with hysteria. However I do think the danger from scare mongering is as damaging as having ones head in the sand.

KOKOagainandagain · 10/03/2020 17:30

If you are quite happy with the figures for the last couple of days, it suggests that you don't really understand exponential growth.

@Bluebutterfly90
You should carry on going for your walks with your baby. It's good for your mental health and isn't a risky activity.
I know what you mean, it's all very overwhelming. Like one big nightmare that I can't wake up from.
Just keep thinking, this won't last forever. It will either burn out or we will have a vaccine.

Have you heard the Princess line are launching a new cruise ship?

It's called the Hotel California.

Daftasever · 10/03/2020 17:34

I’ve been lurking these threads since they started.

It’s not looking good... if it’s true that people are catching it without any known travel aboard or contact with a confirmed case.

I’ve been out into town to do a bit of shopping today. Boots and Superdrug completely bare of hand gel. The shops were quieter than usual, and shop assistant said it’s because of the corona virus! Made me feel nervous for being out.

At what point does it become sensible to literally not leave the house for anything other than necessity...? Because some days I think I’d be better off being a hermit right now.

Helenj1977 · 10/03/2020 17:36

Italy figures are so sad. Why aren't we doing before we're in the same place?

My dd said her friends sister is being tested. They were at alton towers at the weekend. Surely I'd had heard by now if it potentially that close??

vera99 · 10/03/2020 17:36

@YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus

I know the front line troops are facing almost total war with very little protective gear or training. I fear the worse they should be briefed and prepped to the max now.

Helenj1977 · 10/03/2020 17:37

@Bluebutterfly90 keep walking, it will be good for you both. If you're that worried, walk where you won't come into contact with many people xx

@ChipotleBlessing insult name call all you like. You are entitled to believe the facts are as you present them. I am entitled to believe thing are as I understand them.
We are entitled to share our views. I’ve given up on anxiety - you can read it into my posts like I can read it into yours.
Head in the sand attitude should also be banned at this time of crisis.

AvocadoOwl · 10/03/2020 17:39

Given that Italy reported nearly 1800 new cases yesterday I think the drop to 977 today could be considered encouraging- lock downs implemented over a fortnight ago starting to slow the spread?

Nothing encouraging about today's number of deaths. Sadly the lag between new cases and deaths probably means that it will get worse before it gets better Sad

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 17:39

I mentioned something to husband about going away at Easter to see in-laws. He said we might be quarantined by then!

I am seriously waiting for school to message to say they are closed.

This seems a crazy time that the UK seems to be doing very little!

mamapants · 10/03/2020 17:40

I missed the hand gel posted by gpwife (?)
Last week as was dithering and it went out of stock. Was back in stock yesterday so ordered and has been dispatched today. As a couple of you hadn't had a dispatch email yesterday thought I'd let you know incase it needed chasing up.
Hope it arrives, ordered rubbing alcohol off amazon couple of weeks ago and it hasn't turned up so need to chase up a refund and have bought aloe Vera with nothing to mix it with. Never mind.

organisedmother · 10/03/2020 17:42

Hi everyone, not looking to do more panic but just wanted to give some information on hand sanitizer, I’m 99.9% there will not be any in cooperative stores for at least 4 weeks . Just to save people time to go there as the last option. Be calm and kind xoxo

LizzyButton · 10/03/2020 17:43

At what point does it become sensible to literally not leave the house for anything other than necessity...? Because some days I think I’d be better off being a hermit right now.

Being out and about, especially in parks / suburbs / rural areas seems like an acceptable risk unless very immunocompromised. It's fresh air, exercise and perspective gaining. Crowded spaces are something else.

Grinchlywords · 10/03/2020 17:44

That was a truly badly timed joke of mine up there. Apologies if I upset anyone.Sad

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 17:45

I've done it for the last 12 days @lizzybutton
My son is seriously immune suppressed after an organ transplant.
