I’m a self employed support worker and can’t get hand gel anywhere (I need it for work).
I think the more the press say “don’t stock pile” the more people will stock pile.
To be fair, if we are to go into lock down like Italy we may not be able to get out to get food (though must of us will), some people rely on public transport to get to a supermarket, some of us don’t live within 5 miles of a shop, some of us could be stuck at home with kids or stuck at home because we are infectious? Some people may not have relatives to bring them food supplies?
I’m a single parent, if one of us becomes ill then I’m stuck, I live almost 10 miles from a major supermarket, I usually do a online shop but this will soon become booked up if people are restricted and isolated.
So far I haven’t been out panic buying, I keep enough of most things to last a couple weeks as we often get stuck due to flooding so it’s normal to have 2 weeks worth of toilet roll.
I’m sure as we move into the new phase people could start panicking even more and supermarkets will become a nightmare.
