So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

Home delivery are running out, I couldn’t order pasta, anti bac or loo roll for this week. Thankfully my corner shop has all that stuff

teenagetantrums · 12/03/2020 09:32

I have just been to shop after being on holiday for a week. No noticable shortage of anything here. Small town in Southwest. I didn't look for hand sanitizer as we bought some to take on holiday.

thefemalelemur · 12/03/2020 09:52

I went to Tesco early this ,opening simpler because it's been horrendously busy later in the day. They had plenty of hand wash and bleach (which they were short on last week) and some loo roll (not shelves full so expect later today they will run out). They had limited pasta.

Findumdum1 · 12/03/2020 09:58

I also went to tesco at 8 this morning and everything was available except hand sanitizer. Moderate stock of toilet roll, bleach wipes and hand soap so I expect anyone rocking up in the afternoon might be out of luck.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 12/03/2020 10:04

Popped into my local Asda this morning. A few packs of spaghetti left, and no other pasta even in the free from aisle. Home Bargains had people putting out todays supply of antibacterial hand soap and as soon as they out one on the shelf, someone nabbed it. Was gone before 930. Hardly any paracetamol and ibuprofen and loo rolls anywhere. No signs of calming down here yet.

All the uht milk was gone in our local Morrisons the other day... we've just moved and don't have a fridge yet! They'd cleared the long life milkshakes too!! I've got 7 rolls of bog roll left from the last time I did a proper shop.
I'm not panicking or panic buying though I don't have the money right now.

Em8725 · 12/03/2020 11:10

I’m not panicking per se, but I went to Aldi last night and the shelves were bare of any tins/loo roll/pasta and UHT milk. We do actually use a lot of pasta, and I used to always have two UHT milks in the cupboard as it’s handy if OH is away and I run out in the night and the kids need it or whatever.

My lovely dad went to Tesco at 6am this morning and managed to buy pasta and UHT milk for me. I am worrying more about having to self isolate and not having anyone to bring us anything. My dad is immunosuppressed, and he is the only one that would bring me things for the kids so I would like to make sure I’ve got enough of everything.

I’m thinking washing liquid/pods will be next. Thankfully I have plenty of washing stuff just in case we ever have a skint month.

SylvanianFrenemies · 12/03/2020 11:19

@em8725 I would worry about my parents bringing us stuff too. When DP&I were both really unwell with D&V we just arranged for them to leave shopping at the front door, then took it in after they'd driven off. Maybe something to keep in reserve.

Em8725 · 12/03/2020 12:20

@sylvanianfrenemies that’s a really good idea and not something I’d thought of, Thankyou!

Percivalthebabyspider · 12/03/2020 12:27

I'm not in the UK but here it's TP, hand sanitizer, soap, tissues, tinned goods, pasta and pasta sauce, flour, sugar, long life milk, Panadol, sanpro, bandaids, rice, formula, nappies, baby wipes. It's madness!

Percivalthebabyspider · 12/03/2020 12:28

Forgot vinegar and cleaning products too.

AuntieMarys · 12/03/2020 13:35

No tonic water in the local Sainsburys. Nightmare

Lordfrontpaw · 12/03/2020 13:54

You will just need to drink your gin neat. Do you think people are buying it for the quinine?

ritatherockfairy · 12/03/2020 14:07

I was surprised to see people queueing for petrol at lunchtime yesterday. I usually let my car run dry before I fill it up but I may change that soon.

Branster · 13/03/2020 14:19

Why vinegar?
I haven’t needed to go to the supermarket for 4 days (just popped in to local mini one to get milk and the odd one item I was out of - business as usual in there) but I’m dreading it. Someone at work told me they went in to the local big Tesco at lunch time and it was super busy, massive car park and no parking spaces.
So is everybody spending their money on these extra items they might not actually use, then they might be off work for at least two weeks possibly on a lower or no income, where is the bigger picture?
I just want reason and calm 😔
ritaherockfairy I’ve noticed that too, my local petrol station looked busier than normal over the last three days.

Lordfrontpaw · 13/03/2020 14:20

I clean my loo with vinegar. Maybe there’s a loo roll connection there...

Springbubble912 · 13/03/2020 14:36

I went to our small local shop earlier and it’s been decimated - no pasta or loo rolls , hardly any rice or tins , lots of gaps in the cereal aisle - even fresh milk was a bit sparse

I wonder with slight dread what will happen deliveries now that borders are restricted (not closed, and def not to goods and food) and there are delay at Schengen borders, eg Denmark, Italy, Austria, Poland. I dont know enough about logistics except that most of our non-EU foodstuff comes in via London or Holland, and lots of fresh stuff from Spain and Holland. So many considerations

Percivalthebabyspider · 13/03/2020 21:15

Yes vinegar is used as a cleaner/disinfectant. Been using it for years myself but suddenly everyone else is!

Nanalisa60 · 13/03/2020 21:33

Went to Aldi this afternoon there was pallets of loo roll,

ViciousJackdaw · 13/03/2020 21:35

Ramadan starts at the end of April so if you like dates, it's probably best to get some in now.

agonyauntie2020 · 14/03/2020 06:25

Thermometers, the digital kind, online. Usual price gouging going on. Ugh.

LightAsTheBreeze · 14/03/2020 06:28

I popped into a Superdrug and bought a Tommie Tippi thermometer for under £9 on offer, I was very surprised as Argos and Boots had sold out and they were very expensive on Amazon

Sofacat · 14/03/2020 14:39

I tried to buy antibacterial hand wash for work yesterday and saw on eBay people selling handbag sized stuff for £30-50 !
