So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

Bellinisurge wasn't rude.
And nobody knows if they will need to isolate, so having some in is understandable, I think.

BiddyPop · 09/03/2020 13:24

@wowfudge we are all at risk of having to be isolated - whether self-isolated or group isolated. That includes both those who have made sure they have sufficient stocks for their needs and their families needs, but also those who have made no provision and expect life to continue as normal. Across the whole mad wonderful spectrum that is a modern, multicultural and multifaceted society!! Grin

Personally, I'd prefer to have enough toilet roll to continue to manage my ongoing medical issues in comfort - but I am not in the process of building any fort-sized stockpiles either. Just what we would normally go through.

(What I AM stockpiling is a secret stash of biscuits and crisps, hot chocolate, teabags and ground coffee. Because they are the things we don't normally use LOADS of, but would use a lot more if we are stuck at home - between the gallons of tea I drink at work, the couple of coffees from coffee shops, and the odd biscuit to accompany those - and DH and DD's usual requirements added to that - if we stay at home, we'll need more but I don't want them breaking into that stash until they are needed...….)

Zisforstripyoss · 09/03/2020 13:25

Sanpro will be next I reckon...

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 13:25

@wowfudge , sorry if you think I'm being rude. Just found out two people at work - office of 600 - are being tested for covid19.
Hopefully they are negative for the virus, but if not, some colleagues (may be all of us) may have to self isolate. If some of those people don't have enough bog roll, they'll have bigger problems than boredom.

Lordfrontpaw · 09/03/2020 14:02

@PotholeParadise I love that! It definitely makes a change from the knitted crinoline doll loo roll holders that my great aunt used to have (always fascinated/creeped me out me as to why she had no legs - what happened to Sindys legs? Where were they?)

Funkycats · 09/03/2020 14:28

Bellinisurge Flowers Finger crossed for co-workers and you!

viccat · 09/03/2020 14:35

I'm worried about cat litter now - had a bag in my Ocado delivery for today but it was unavailable and didn't arrive. My favourite handcream was also unavailable. Frustrating when it's items I buy regularly and now can't get.

The Ocado driver said everyone's orders have contained lots of tinned soups and loo roll in the past few days...

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 14:41

Thanks Funky. While obviously I hope we don't get anything other than bored, we shamefully, have office cleaners on zero hours contracts. It would affect them immediately if our office closed.

Ihavenoidewhatsgoingon · 09/03/2020 14:42

I think people are stockpiling loo roll because

A) the newspapers say it’s sold out so everyone buys a pack or two next time they are out shopping

B) no one wants to be stuck at home with no loo roll

C) no sell buy date so it doesn’t matter if you buy a few extra rolls - they will get used eventually

Lordfrontpaw · 09/03/2020 14:46

D) you don't want to be quarantined and run out of loo roll! Kitchen roll is too scratchy.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 09/03/2020 14:46

Everything is as normal in my town, no shortages. So proud not to live amongst twattish folk!

Lordfrontpaw · 09/03/2020 14:57

Just wait... it will happen.

@Poppiesway1 I've really struggled too with my online shopping this week. Everything is sold out, most of the delivery slots have been taken. It's starting to piss me off now. These people are so selfish! They're gonna catch it whether they like it or not. I wonder if these people panic buying are actually cleaning the everyday things that they touch like phones, chargers, toothbrush, makeup, makeup brushes, drawer handles etc... it baffles me honestly. It's really infuriating me. Everyone else is suffering because of these arseholes going and buying 100x what they need. Argh!!!

Baaaahhhhh · 09/03/2020 15:40

Dishwasher tablets.
Washing powder
Fabric softener

Probably, but ffs, one large bag/box lasts a month, so again I ask, how long are people expecting to be in isolation for. Even in a lockdown you can visit your local shop.

Midlifebaby · 09/03/2020 15:50

Pregnancy tests 🤣

Ariela · 09/03/2020 16:08

@jellyfishandshells
Oh that might have been me: I have to make a dozen date and walnut loaves next week for an event. Couldn't get them in Booker.

BiddyPop · 09/03/2020 16:21

Midlifebaby Grin Grin so true!! (Big surge in births in our village 9 months after a series of winter storms knocked the power off a number of times in quick succession over a period of about 6 weeks one winter.....that was known as the "winter of X" class in school all the way through primary Grin )

Auntieneicy · 09/03/2020 16:52

@ElaineKM 👏👏👏 spot on!

GoodDogBellaBoo · 09/03/2020 17:04

Not in the UK, but coconut milk (all brands) is sold out in many shops here.

Auntieneicy · 09/03/2020 17:12

@Youngatheart00 @Bestnewshoes
Strange as you can usually buy 3 boxes of para and ibuprofen from Poundland for a pound 🤔

Auntieneicy · 09/03/2020 17:14

👏👏 Totally agree!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/03/2020 17:17

you don't want to be quarantined and run out of loo roll! Kitchen roll is too scratchy

And will block the drains! As an end terrace I'm fed up with paying to have the drains unblocked as idiots have flushed wipes and other unflushables down the toilet!

Lordfrontpaw · 09/03/2020 17:22

So my big Waitrose has no loo roll and only a couple of packs of pasta. I watched a woman range through a strangers trolley (he has left it at the end of the aisle to go and get something). She picked up a couple of pack of spaghetti. She looked up and caught my eye (I’m very nosey and had stopped to answer an email). She put them back and sauntered away.

Oh...my...god. Trolley lootery in Waitrose.

WorriedAcademic · 09/03/2020 17:54

Marks and Spencer’s has sold out of coconut and cocoa porridge pots across the midlands. I suspect nationwide. They did a stock search for me in numerous towns and cities within a 45 mile radius and nothing.
