So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

I think it's a bit like the worried well are always at the doctors. The worried rich are out buying loo rolls and pasta because they might have to cook for themselves if they can't go abroad or to restaurants.

Devlesko · 10/03/2020 16:34

board games.

roses2 · 10/03/2020 17:03

I went for a walk at lunchtime in Central London just to take a look. Plenty of loo roll, paracetamol, Calpol etc. I don't see people stock piling in London (yet).

Lordfrontpaw · 10/03/2020 17:08

Depends where you are!

Branster · 10/03/2020 17:14

Surely laxatives must be sold out by now. I must take look next time I go to the supermarket!

Lordfrontpaw · 10/03/2020 17:16

Why laxatives? People are trying to preserve their loo roll mountains surely?

EvilPea · 10/03/2020 17:34

What I’ve found interesting is the stuff people aren’t buying.
The spare ‘treat’ Money for flowers or a magazine.
All going on tinned peaches and spam that barely anyone under 50 has ever consumed.

Lordfrontpaw · 10/03/2020 17:35

Excuse me - I’m over 50 and have never eaten either!

Dailyjunglegrind · 10/03/2020 17:41

In our neck of the woods, for a quick supper staple Cous cous has disappeared from trace. Out of stock on ocado & sainsburys and from the lady behind me at the check out who also said Asda was cleared out.

Findumdum1 · 10/03/2020 17:46

Nothing. It was a temporary blip while people were preparing for possible 2/3 quarantine/staying close to home/working from home while supply chains adjusted. They now have. Some people overdid it but in the main it was entirely sensible for people to get a couple of extra packs of toilet roll and a couple of extra pack of paracetamol in and some extra food. If this does happen, as looks very likely, I will have an extra 4 people in my house during the day going to the toilet/needing lunch/using my medicine rather than the school's etc.

Any shortages were due to things that normally sell at a particular rate suddenly increasing quite sharply with little or no warning. Entirely predictable that would happen and the supermarkets will have now taken the necessary action to restock for that higher rate. It's always going to take a few days for supply to catch up with increased demand.

Also, if we do go on any kind of lockdown or even if people are just spending more time at home, using the supplies they now have, less people will be shopping and demand will go down again.

I predict almost fully stocked shelves and less busy shops in the next few weeks.

Jade1976 · 11/03/2020 13:15

Nothing in West Oxfordshire, didn't look at hand sanitiser.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 11/03/2020 13:25

I have a real love of tinned peaches Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 11/03/2020 13:25

Carex hand soap bottles - £9.99 + £2.90 p&p on Ebay!

LightAsTheBreeze · 11/03/2020 13:35

Thermometers are in short supply and seem expensive on Amazon if in stock.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/03/2020 13:47

The ordinary ones or the electronic ones?

turnandfacethenamechange · 11/03/2020 13:48

I bet Oatly barista will be even harder to find than normal. Its shoppers are in a perpetual state of panic buy since it's so rarely in stock that when it is you buy six of them!

user1469190646 · 11/03/2020 13:52

Baby formula tins and premixed

That isn't something you can improvise

RevolutionofourTime · 11/03/2020 13:52

Sorry I haven’t RTFT but I live in HK where the panic buying was in full swing 6 weeks ago. Shops were empty of everything- cleaning products, rice, noodles, toilet paper, hygiene products, bread, vegetables, condoms apparently - for a good two-three weeks.

I’m happy to report that things are back to normal now, and supermarkets and pharmacies are well stocked with everything including hand sanitizer. The only thing we can’t find is face masks, but that’s because global demand far exceeds supply.

The panic buying will subside eventually.

Butterwhy · 11/03/2020 14:08

@turnandfacethenamechange I used to order Oatly from here, it's a good, reliable service if you ever need any:

RosehipRuthie · 11/03/2020 17:04

@roses2 - out here in north London today, there was no pasta, no anti-bac wipes, no liquid handwash or sanitizer, very little oat milk, and no loo roll!

mummmy2017 · 12/03/2020 07:55

Been too two supermarketds, no flour.
Thankfully the corner shop had some.

Lordfrontpaw · 12/03/2020 08:02

Yes flour! Kitchen rolls are going too - t hi is is central London. Pasta, tinned foods, loo roll, anything antibacterial... Funnily enough there as plenty of nappies.

RosieLancs · 12/03/2020 08:12

@mummy2017 People only seem to be panic buying in the big supermarkets don't they, anything I couldn't get on my regular shop I found in plentiful supply in the Spar at the end of my road

Loppy10 · 12/03/2020 08:13

Pasta and rice were mostly sold out from Tesco when I did my online order this week

Cherrypi · 12/03/2020 08:29

Is it just the shops that do home delivery that are running out?
