ciwirocks I am similar!

ClashCityRocker · 04/03/2020 17:17

A further case confirmed in York.

RedToothBrush · 04/03/2020 17:18

Containment over!

Indeed...

PHE said they would only look closely at the first 100 cases before switching to a different strategy...

...we've got to that as they know we will hit that tomorrow. And that's also why the next update isn't until Friday.

Tone change.

Following this closing down of information I am feeling more kinship with those who plan to batten down the hatches as far as possible. Its hard to feel particularly pro social when you're kept in the dark.

We can't sensibly isolate our family so we take our chances. I do worry about my elderly mum who lives some way away. To be honest she is winding down and at this stage I can't see her modifying her life which is probably right for her.

If other people wish to minimise social contact and can afford to I wish them all the best. School is not compulsory in the UK, though education is.

keepmoving · 04/03/2020 17:19

Are these further cases not just the locations not shared initially? I suspect the Sky News number will go back to 87. The numbers are reported on a daily basis at 2pm I think.

Release of the new James Bond film 'No Time to Die' delayed until November due to coronavirus

SansaSnark · 04/03/2020 17:21

@VivaLeBeaver Transmission is less likely if people aren't symptomatic, but it's still possible.

EDF are tracing close contacts of a Chinese national who did a placement with them- and tested positive on return to China.

Public Health England said: “Authorities in China report that the person did not have symptoms whilst in the UK, so the risk to other people in the UK is considered to be very low."

If PHE still believe that asymptomatic cases are risks for transmission, albeit low ones, I think we have to assume that transmission without symptoms is posisble:

Sorry but need to warn all that MN seem to want to sanction us as the Tin Hat brigade
I have had abhorrent levels of Mental Health related slurs on a thread and they have done nothing but allow them to personally attack me yet I stood up for myself against one suck personal attack and corrected the false statements made against me personally which caused a pile on and had that removed without notification.
Absolutely disgusted actually

Meruem · 04/03/2020 17:22

I am getting fed up of seeing those memes on facebook comparing numbers of dead from CV on one day to those who died of other illnesses in one day, and it ends with "keep calm and wash your hands" Hmm Yes more people may have died of diabetes in that one day but that's not contagious! Schools won't need to close because of diabetes! It's just no comparison at all! I do agree people need to keep calm but there are too many people not taking it seriously enough.

middleager · 04/03/2020 17:22

Derbyshire live are reporting 2 cases in Derbyshire

Wonder if this in addition to the Buxton case?

SansaSnark · 04/03/2020 17:22

Italian schools are closing tomorrow and will stay shut until 15th March.

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 17:23

I did actually laugh at the Bond news. Sorry.

SansaSnark · 04/03/2020 17:25

@Meruem I agree that sharing the number of people who've died from non-contagious diseases is really silly- and people do avoid lifestyle risk factors for these.

You only have to look at the figures from Italy to see how this is really quite dangerous for older people especially.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 17:26

There were earlier conflicting reports about this, but Italy's education minister has now confirmed that all schools and universities will be closed until March 15

JollyHostess · 04/03/2020 17:27

I've heard 3rd hand rumours of another London case, in addition to the Guildhall one.

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 17:27

People are at different stages of awareness, BiBi, and tbh I'd be chuffed to find out I've been catastrophising in a tin foil hat.

middleager · 04/03/2020 17:27

Yes that's three in Derby now.

At what point will it be impossible to track? I just don't see how it is possible to trace all those in contact with infected people. Every button in a lift, every handrail touched, every petrol pump nozzle..

SnoozyLou · 04/03/2020 17:27

There are 2 confirmed cases in the town I live in. They've closed a couple of public buildings. Today they are saying there are more cases in this town, but they are not giving specifics anymore. I think they're changing their tactics. I think they're being deliberately vague now and telling everyone to carry on as normal to try to mitigate the catastrophic effect it will have on the economy. People second, money first.

Saucery · 04/03/2020 17:28

Ciwierocks yes, I am feeling resigned. I’m doing all I can personally and there is nothing else I can do.

I think we will still get numbers updates, just not locations. Or have I misread?

Wehttam · 04/03/2020 17:29

Bibi it’s fine don’t worry, don’t waste your emotional energy on the damned, with their heads in an hourglass. Many are probably just bots, I actually pity their families.

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 17:30

Everyone agrees that dealing with this in large numbers will be far easier in warmer months and... For the NHS.
So why not close even some schools and colleges and unis.

Why not slow the spread!!

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 17:31

Sansa I think keeping us in the dark is a dreadful descion.
