I was at a major teaching hospital SE London today .

Watched an admin person ,behind a glass screen ,eat her KFC lunch .She was opening the sauce sachets by holding then in her teeth and pulling . And quite a lot of nose wiping with the back of her hand .

So she's obvs not worried .The naivety of youth .

NEW: Los Angeles County reports 5 new cases of coronavirus, declares state of emergency t.co/eUoE2b20hL

middleager · 04/03/2020 16:41

Name I'd like to know more though, no matter how stark.

This is why I'm angry that the govt is witholding daily information about locations.

Polgara2 · 04/03/2020 16:42

@RevolutionofourTime hmmm if that's really the case then I wonder why Vietnam are still on the list? They would seem less likely to be a problem than many other countries? Yet they are still there.
. @ChipotleBlessing ah really? Ok then I hadn't realised that.
So they must have more cases than they are saying surely?
I am still leaning towards she shouldn't go ahead.

Awkward1 · 04/03/2020 16:46

The paper about Bristol was saying he got it outside the country. However he had only been gone 2 days....

Some many were from flights which shows the difference could have been made by restricting.
(Or actually self isolating all passengers).
Temp checking I'm sure would have helped at airports.

LarkDescending · 04/03/2020 16:47

Interesting article in the Guardian re efforts to find a cure.

mumoftwodc · 04/03/2020 16:47

I'm not sure if this has already been posted about the case of a pupil at Kingston Academy testing positive and the school will not be closing on the advice of Public Health England.

We have colleagues returning from France tomorow, Paris.
Should we be worried.

A huge group went.

BackInTime · 04/03/2020 16:49

Anyone heard whether school exchanges from Europe will still be going ahead in the coming months? Where we live has lots of language students and school trips usually from Easter onwards with many staying in homes of local host families. Can't imagine that this is a good idea at present.

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 16:51

Hope not back, at the very least who would want your child sick abroad or be nursing sick child you don't know.

Onabun · 04/03/2020 16:52

@HotSince82 why is your son not going back to St Anselms? Is there a case there? I know children at the school.

Alib838 · 04/03/2020 16:52

Maybe the pupil in Kingston had 'self isolated' before they went back after half term? In Weydon School in Farnham my daughter casually told me of at least 4 who are self isolating that the pupils in their immediate circle know of in different years.

Jrobhatch29 · 04/03/2020 16:53

Theres been a confirmed case in newcastle right by where i live. Terrified x

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 16:53

I know of some Chinese nationals working here. It will be interesting to see if/ when they decide to move back.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 16:53

Just wondering chipotle - someone upthread already asked if there was a difference re obesity so it was already on my mind

Alone07 · 04/03/2020 16:53

Sky have just quoted 87 cases of covid19 now

SubordinateThatClause · 04/03/2020 16:54

@Stircrazyschoolmum - Have the Ashcroft and St Cecilia's been confirmed? Last I heard they were precautionary closures.

HotSince82 · 04/03/2020 16:55

Onabun
There are no cases within the school but because its not a local comp and boys from all over Wirral attend I am worried that the confirmed case in presumably the West Kirby area may have had contact with a pupil at Anselms or a member of their family.
Its only a matter of time before the school has a pupil or parent case of the CV. I believe in preemptive rather than reactive action. In a week or so we should have more of an idea of the spread within the locality and I can reassess.

RevolutionofourTime · 04/03/2020 16:57

Yes online learning till the Easter break. With some days of ‘offline learning’ coming up soon, thank goodness as the kids are glued to their screens all day!

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 16:58

According to Sky:

Two people from Carlisle who had both had recently returned from a trip to northern Italy. One is a member of healthcare staff at the Cumberland Infirmary

Two Scottish patients from the Grampian and Ayrshire areas. One had travelled to northern Italy and the other had had contact with a person who was known to have already tested positive for the disease

Two people in Northern Ireland including one who had travelled from northern Italy. The other had recent contact with a person in the UK who had tested positive for COVID-19

Two people in South Ribble, Lancashire who had recently travelled to Italy and were isolating themselves at home

A patient who was admitted to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester

A person in Oldham, Greater Manchester who was infected while in northern Italy

Three cases in Trafford, Greater Manchester who had all recently travelled to northern Italy

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 04/03/2020 16:58

Ive started a new thread to post media sources of case locations on. If the government won’t do it for us we’ll have to do it ourselves.

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 16:59

Well done you.

Just make sure people are posting verified sources

Banana0pancakes · 04/03/2020 17:00

@Jrobhatch29 whereabouts in Newcastle? I live here too and shitting myself

everythingthelighttouches · 04/03/2020 17:00

Containment over!

twitter.com/DHSCgovuk/status/1235207174407802880?s=20

Well this is an interesting move. The government will no longer report the location of cases on a daily basis, but will consolidate and report weekly.

Most other countries have an interactive map which is updated daily.

Jrobhatch29 · 04/03/2020 17:01

No idea it just says newcastle. Its allover my facebook
