@IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying I watched the WHO press conf yesterday, they said they were skipping a day and the next one would be Thursday. Someone quipped they were having a day off and someone else quick to say no, they were busy with something else. All very good-natured and professional but clear that they had a lot going on, not just press conferences to give.

ShanghaiDiva · 04/03/2020 16:09

@RevolutionofourTime
Are you back in HK? I think we were on similar threads about 4 weeks ago. My dh is now in HK and dd and I are in the uk.

WingingItSince1973 · 04/03/2020 16:10

@fezzesarecool theres 2 cases in Northamptonshire not showing on the map. X

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 04/03/2020 16:11

Reading between the lines, we aren’t in the containment phase any more.
I’m going to assume it’s everywhere and act accordingly.

Wehttam · 04/03/2020 16:11

Newleaf are you in China because you seem very sure on the numbers the Chinese are claiming even though the majority of the world thinks otherwise..... 🤔

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 04/03/2020 16:13

OnALong Thanks. Really recommend the WHO reports to all on here.

JadeDay · 04/03/2020 16:13

I've just seen a twitter feed claim global death rate is 3.4% (sorry if this has already been mentioned?!) - is that true?

ChipotleBlessing · 04/03/2020 16:13

The Newcastle case apparently caught it in Vietnam, so it seems unlikely they have no cases.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/03/2020 16:14

Yes, that's the figure the WHO are working with now.

ChipotleBlessing · 04/03/2020 16:15

I’d also guess Indonesia are lying about their lack of cases. The Dutch government are sending them help, which given the high level of Netherlands-Indonesia travel, suggests there are Dutch cases with Indonesia links.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 16:15

Two linked cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in South Ribble, Lancashire. The two people had recently travelled to Italy and are currently isolating themselves at home.

Our Director of Public Health and Wellbeing Dr Sakthi Karunanithi explains more.

We’re working with health colleagues to do everything we can to stop the virus spreading and ensure residents are protected. Their close contacts are being followed up by Public Health England.

If you haven’t been contacted by Public Health England you don’t need to do anything.

Find information and advice about how to protect yourself here ➡️ www.nhs.uk/coronavirus

If you're worried, NHS 111 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need medical help and advise you what to do: 111.nhs.uk/covid-19

Wehttam · 04/03/2020 16:16

Maybe jade although I’ll take the numbers we have in say another month maybe 2 as the more realistic rate. Simply because there are many still in critical condition whose outcome may not be known for a little while longer and also as we learned today with Sally and David Abel, it comes back.

PremierNaps · 04/03/2020 16:16

Prince William joking that he and Kate are spreading corona virus and thinks it's being hyped up 🙄

It's OK for you wills. With your super private health care.

ChipotleBlessing · 04/03/2020 16:17

@JadeDay, yes, but remember that figure includes the early Chinese cases where no one had a clue what it was or how to manage it. Their death rate was 33% at one stage, but got down to 1%. That or less is what most experts are projecting

onalongsabbatical · 04/03/2020 16:17

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying pleasure. Yes they're good aren't they? Really helpful stuff out of the experts' mouths. Very calm and clear.

ChipotleBlessing · 04/03/2020 16:18

@wettham. Stop it. You presumably know that experts think test errors are more likely than it coming back. Stop spinning worst case scenarios.

Quartz2208 · 04/03/2020 16:19

at the moment yes - but that is a simplistic look at it - that is based on the number of cases known and doesnt break down into different categories (age/sex/conditions etc)

FourTeaFallOut · 04/03/2020 16:19

No, wait a minute, we don't know that it comes back, but we do know that testing can be unreliable.

ChipotleBlessing · 04/03/2020 16:19

The gender difference on the Korea figures is huge. More women infected but way more men dying.

yolofish · 04/03/2020 16:19

I have an immuno-suppressed DH, DD1 is working in France 30 miles from their first cluster, and DD2 commutes on the train/tube every day.
I don't fit into any of those categories, so will be doing the caring for DH and DD2 at least if they come down with it.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/03/2020 16:21

William could be making bee line to the throne, he probably shouldn't joke about it.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 04/03/2020 16:21

premier He won't be joking for long if his granny and grandpa get it.. they are peak vulnerability!!

Wehttam · 04/03/2020 16:22

Ok fine, we’ll reconvene that discussion in a week or two once there’s more evidence to figure out either way...

Blueberryham · 04/03/2020 16:22

Chipotle, that interesting. Is that from a reliable source?

Grinchlywords · 04/03/2020 16:23

John Campbell's update is a bit later than usual today, I think.
