This was covered on Victoria Derbyshire yesterday.......the fact that you have to break your self isolation to go to the surgery to get it.

No, they would be sent to you.

The reason ive bolded part of that article about UC that i posted upthread.. is to show how ambiguous it can be though. The bolded bits can be interpreted differently and each persons work coach may well put their own interpretation on it.
I wouldnt be very reassured if i was on UC Dont forget either that UC IS NOT JUST AN OUT OF WORK BENEFIT So people in jobs having to attend will also be attending their own workplaces too.

I suspect the plan might be to blame poorer people for the spread of this escalating if it does.

So, Disney cancels meetings in London promoting its new service, probably because Disney big wigs will be attending.

And yet the poor workers at Disney have to face, serve, customers from all over the world and Europe.

Just seen on ITV London residents of a block of flats have been sent out to shower BY THE BINS. It will be SIX WEEKS before their hot water is back on.

CrunchyCarrot · 03/03/2020 18:08

Catching up again!

Maybe we can very roughly estimate worst case deaths over the whole population of 67 million @ 50% infection worst case rate @ 1% death rate
That's worst case 335,000 EXTRA deaths in the UK (assuming other deaths wouldn't decrease)

Yes I agree, BCF (and that's even more terrifying).

HeIenaDove · 03/03/2020 18:10

So gig economy workers being told to claim UC if they cant get SSP

Italy considering locking down Bergamo.

This is good for us due to UK travel into northern Italy and the muppets who are still going. Most cheap flights go into bergamo.

BREAKING NEWS!!! DWP Covid-19 plan announced
I'm self isolating, can't work, zero hours, what can I do?
DWP: claim Universal Credit
Great, when do I get paid?
DWP: 5 weeks
But got no money and rent to pay
DWP: advance payment!
How do I get that?
DWP: Come to Jobcentre
Sobs...

HasaDigaEebowai · 03/03/2020 18:13

But it isn't - because the current death rate is 3.4% as confirmed by the WHO today...

DonkeyKong2019 · 03/03/2020 18:14

@NettleTea Indonesia and Thailand would be interesting to know too.

misselphaba · 03/03/2020 18:24

And then spend the next 2 years paying the advance payment back! Hurrah.

SansaSnark · 03/03/2020 18:24

I really, really can't see the case for still allowing foreign school trips, or really encouraging foreign travel at all.

The vast majority of the 51 cases in the UK are people who've returned from other countries- but returning travelers will pass it on to other people. Most are not told to self isolate unless they are showing symptoms, by which time it will be too late.

If the government told people to avoid non-essential foreign travel, then people could claim on their insurance and not go.

As others have said, we are an island- surely we use that to our advantage?

tryingtoprep · 03/03/2020 18:31

There should never have been a 5 week wait for UC. How ridiculous! So many people aren't in a position to wait that long. Do people really have to go to jobcentre for an advance? What about those too ill or disabled to get there?

Those people who don't get sick pay and can't afford to wait 5 weeks for UC if they self-isolate. How about as many as possible go to their MP's surgeries to complain? In person.

We should set up something like online application process for a crisis grant or loan.

Is it true about Boris sharing coronavirus patients hands? Surely he wouldn't put himself at risk? I hope he stays away from his own elderly parents.

confusedandtired99 · 03/03/2020 18:32

One of those cases today was in Northamptonshire:

My in-laws have just jetted off skiing for a week in Italy! It's just so selfish

Why? There are lots of areas in Italy with very few cases, such as Turin for example. They won't be allowed into the areas that are locked down, by definition.

I am more at risk travelling on public transport in London, surely?

HasaDigaEebowai · 03/03/2020 18:34

theres a few people id like to die

That comment is in disgustingly poor taste

HasaDigaEebowai · 03/03/2020 18:35

The situation in Italy is far more progressed than the situation in the UK and so it is selfish behaviour.
