If stabbing a fellow pilot and trying to down a plane with 180 Israelis isn't terrorism what is?

It seems like a mass terrorism event has been fouled but heroes on an air plane this morning

Many if our news outlets are describing this as a stabbing on an airplane. No...if you stab the pilot and the plane plummet towards the ground that is an attempt at mass murder... terrorism.

Are the media so afraid now of using the word terrorism that they completely downplay the event. Third rated news article in the Guardian after political stories

It's a reminder of how many enemies Israel has and what they are prepared to do.

If you don't know already, the seatbelt sign goes on the minute any of the flight deck leave to use the toilet.

Copperoliverbear · 30/09/2026 16:49

They don’t want to tell the full story because they don’t want to admit that they keep letting these people in to try and kill us. They don’t care about us.

friedaklein · 30/09/2026 16:49

I cannot link for some reason, but Indian press reporting it as a hijack attempt, with the wounded Indian pilot Smit Macchar fighting off his co-pilot and sending the hijack alert. Not a feud.

'We shall see. Now that all are well and on the ground, it sounds like a jealous fight. You got the better gig, you met my wife, I saw you'

Really? You think the fact the plane was full of Israelis is pure coincidence. It was a spat about gigs and wives?

No one knows, so any theory (even if slightly tongue in cheek) is valid.

Do you know anything about Islam or what proportion of the worlds population are Muslim. You think Christianity or Judaism, religions which ironically believe in the same invisible man in the sky, are any less violent. Religious fanatics are religious fanatics, full stop. When you look at Mick Huckabee, you see a grandad in a suit but listen to what he believes. The Evangelists are nuts.

Perhaps they were just after the aircraft fuel

How many planes have been blown up by Christians or Jews?

One of the pilots manages to get a knife or stabbing implement on board. Security screen not apply to him? I know the answer but how did he get the weapon, was it in the galley or what?

I am not going to speculate on the hows and whys, we don't know yet. It is being portrayed as a violent spat in the flight deck.

At least I have one answer. I was trying to figure out who the heck landed the plane if both pilots were incapacitated. Lucky there were two off duty pilots on board, those passengers were very fortunate there.

We shall see. Now that all are well and on the ground, it sounds like a jealous fight. You got the better gig, you met my wife, I saw you. Whatever. Let's hope that's what it was or similar.

From some reports the weapon was an axe. Crash axes are kept in the cockpit as standard safety equipment.

They're not supposed to be used as a weapon and I should imagine this will set a precedent.

The pilots can see who’s knocking at the door of the cockpit.

Well yes, they would see the flight attendant knocking on the door. They wouldn’t see the out of view terrorist who has just told the attendant to knock on the cockpit door otherwise they’ll be stabbed or whatever.

However I would assume/hope airline staff have been trained for this kind of eventuality and have code words to alert a pilot in that instance “Hey pilot, I have your coffee” = “there’s a terrorist here with a knife”

😂

Well it is expensive....

Seriously though the coverage from the left leaning press is a joke and bordering on insulting. There were plenty of witnesses in the plane describing this as a terror attack and I don't believe the 'feud' for a minute.

Its just some journalists can't belive that Israel isn't the bad guy and events like this puncture their distorted narrative of evil Israel oppressing other poor countries of innocents.

I'm a Christian, but I despise right wing nut jobs who say they are Christian but act anything but. They are an abomination and do not stand for us.

My religion is one of peace and tolerance. Most Muslims I know feel the same about those who abused the name of Islam and commit atrocities in its name. My Muslim friends are peaceful and tolerant.

Why does a flight attendant knocking on the door and subsequently having it opened for them mean terrorists could force said door? This makes zero sense.

It's lateral thinking/think like a terrorist time because those who know the answer probably shouldn't spell it out.

I flew airliners from pre-9/11, when we were pretty much open door, then saw the instant change to locked doors that initially meant you always needed two on the flight deck, and then used the current system.

The "always two on the flight deck rule" was safer than open door but PITA to work under and definitely introduced risks that you don't have with the remote locking/unlocking systems.

How many planes have been blown up by Christians or Jews?

Well there have been but what does the method by which you terrorise matter. Surely the only metric should be how many innocents each group has murdered.

Twiglets1 · 30/09/2026 17:04

The reparation flight has landed in Tel Aviv.

I presume that's so the pilots can get out of their locked deck in an emergency. But (sorry for being flippant) can't they open a cockpit window? I've seen them put flags out the window. I suppose they could but only if on the ground, so here I am wasting time trying to figure out when they would need an axe. Oh, maybe a situation like the Germanwings. I dunno.

I'm sure someone will tell me.

What are you on about? There haven't been nearly as many terror attacks by non-Muslims as there have been by Muslims. That is a plain fact.

Benjamin Netanyahu said a pilot stabbed another pilot on a flydubai flight headed to Tel Aviv on Wednesday, attempting to crash the plane of mostly Israeli passengers, in what Israel is calling an attempted terrorist attack.

The prime minister said one passenger described to him how, as the plane "went into a spin and began to plunge," the passenger and a crew member somehow broke into the cockpit and subdued the pilot who carried out the stabbing.

Netanyahu said the Saudi authorities arrested the suspected attacker and are questioning him. Saudi Arabia has not confirmed that.

lepara · 30/09/2026 17:10

Well Israel says it's a terror attack. Whatever the outcome/reason it did induce terror for sure.

Twiglets1 · 30/09/2026 17:11

Reuters report that the attacker has been identified as an Omani national.

Perhaps we could wait for the facts first, as one of several things could have happened/been the motivation. Let's not whip this up anymore.

Exactly the pilot could have been simply buttering his scone and accidentally slipped repeatedly stabbing his fellow co pilot.

On the other hand it could simply have been terrorism and suggestions otherwise are an anti semitic attempt to minimise or deflect from this.

That's why you should always use plastic knives on planes.

A pilot should know that!

friedaklein · 30/09/2026 17:16

Unbelievably lucky that two pilots were on board to land the plane.

Religious fanatics can be found across all faiths of course. However based on historical events in recent times I do think a Christian or Jewish person is statistically less likely to engage in specific types of terrorist acts than a Muslim.

It’s silly to pretend a group of Anglican priests are equally as likely to have links to a terrorist group as a group of Iranian Muslim clerics.

The Telegraph

shortly after 9.20am local time, around 160 Israeli citizens were praying for their lives after a fight broke out in the cockpit of Flydubai Flight FZ1073.

The pilot, an Emirati citizen, had been stabbed by a hijacker and lost control. It took just 37 seconds for the Boeing 737 Max jet to plunge 15,000ft.

Many on board believed they would die. But, when they heard the pilot scream, some of the passengers ran towards the cockpit, burst inside and subdued the knife-wielding attacker, reportedly an Omani citizen.

Two off-duty pilots stepped in to help pull the aircraft out of its nosedive.

An incident that could have become Israel’s 9/11 ended with the plane safely on the tarmac of Tabuk airport in Saudi Arabia – where it made an emergency landing that led passengers to break out in cheers and song.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the suspected Omani attacker may have been the co-pilot. Miri Regev, Israel’s transport minister, called on his country’s civil aviation authority to investigate whether the UAE had broken its pledge only to permit pilots from nations that hold diplomatic relations with Israel on the route.
