Airplane terror attack

If stabbing a fellow pilot and trying to down a plane with 180 Israelis isn't terrorism what is?

It seems like a mass terrorism event has been fouled but heroes on an air plane this morning

Many if our news outlets are describing this as a stabbing on an airplane. No...if you stab the pilot and the plane plummet towards the ground that is an attempt at mass murder... terrorism.

Are the media so afraid now of using the word terrorism that they completely downplay the event. Third rated news article in the Guardian after political stories

It's a reminder of how many enemies Israel has and what they are prepared to do.

The UAE government will cover it up, whatever it is.

You can't just 'cover up' an incident like this. There is a very established protocol for investigation, with many parties included. It is already not covered up.

Oh dear, I think there were plenty of eye witnesses on the plane who saw what happened but maybe they're Islamophobic so we shouldn't believe their reports?

After all Israelis only lie, especially when it comes to attacks on Israelis by Muslims, according to you.

You're the one who doesn't believe the Bibas family were killed by Palestinians because you haven't seen their autopsy reports IIRC.

You really need to read threads a bit more carefully before trying to put words into a persons mouth. Show me exactly where I said I don't believe the Bibas family were killed by Hamas.

BerthaPotts · 30/09/2026 16:02

Whatever it was, there will be a thorough investigation. I find it incredulous that the OP believes the truth will be covered up simply because the plane landed in Saudi. I have seen a video circulating online of Saudi medics treating the Israeli passengers who were on board. It didn't look like they were being treated in a hostile manner.

Reports coming out that the co-pilot was an Omani national who had worked for the Dubai airline for 9 months.

Reports that the pilot (who was very seriously wounded) was Emirati.

Also reports the weapon was an axe!

This was via a British man with relatives on the flight.

Quite surreal to see the Israeli passengers singing and clapping along to Am Israel Chai via a loudspeaker after the danger had been averted.

The axe would be part of the cockpit safety equipment.

I’ve always wondered about this. Do the flight attendants have a way of getting in? If so surely that’s a risk because if someone holds a gun to their head they may let a hijacker in?

On a Wizz air flight recently I observed the flight attendants knocking on the cockpit door and then it opened. It did occur to me that a terrorist could force them to gain access.

I also noticed that when one of the pilots went to the toilet a flight attendant replaced him in the cockpit, presumably pilots are no longer left alone after the horrific Eurowings tragedy. When the pilot returned from the loo he entered a code on the cockpit door and entered, I’m sure an eagle eyed person sitting close enough might be able to see that code.

None of this felt particularly secure to me!

And also that the only reason for antisemitism in Iraq is false flags by Mossad. They'll be blaming the IDF for this regardless of what the relevant authorities eventually conclude.

AnyfoolcanknowThepointistounderstand · 30/09/2026 16:06

Also some reports that additional back up pilots were put on all planes to Israel due to intelligence that an attack was likely, which makes sense that passengers were able to get into the cockpit if potentially there was an air marshal or special forces travelling among the passengers with the ability to open the cockpit door if necessary.

I wonder if the intel was that it was be a pilot!

Although some saying that the two additional pilots were on board to do the return leg.

Lots of 'false flag' accusations already.

Also reports the weapon was an axe!

No idea yet if that's true but in order to head off the exclamation mark I think it's safe to say:

If the cabin crew are fighting a cabin fire they may need to prise apart sidewall panels so they can introduce the nozzle of a fire extinguisher.

A (fire) axe can be very useful in those circunstances but of course it might be a good idea to keep it in a secure location....such as on the flight deck.

We all saw it.

Gloriia · 30/09/2026 16:09

This is horrific. Terrorists now actually qualified pilots.

The passengers so lucky that those on board overcame the terrorist and other pilots aboard to land it. How unbelievably fortunate.

Cannot believe the media are still reporting on 'an argument' between pilots as if they were just having a squabble. It was a terrorist attack.

It's something that needs to be part of the investigation, like any other potential theory. A potential catastrophe niftily prevented by pilots who were able to get in, save the day etc, just before a very contested election in a conflict zone.

I personally doubt it's a false flag (at least I'd need to see evidence) but there is no doubt netenyahu and co will use this for political advantage - members of his government already are.

Every possible theory needs to be considered, from the likely to the unlikely, and those that are politically unpalatable.

How can any of you determine it was a terrorist attack when the details haven't been disclosed?

It's like the other day all over again, when so many on MN were 100% sure that Iranian proxies were trying to blow up the airbase.

I’ve already seen a comment on FB where someone self-importantly declared it was the “Hannibal Directive” 🥴

We all saw it.

Then show me the bit where I said specifically that I didn't believe the family were killed by Hamas. I said I don't know as I don't trust either narrative. Both have a motive to lie. I approached the situation from a purely logical perspective, not an emotive one. I did also blame Hamas for their deaths for kidnapping them in the first place no matter what the circumstances of their deaths.

Yes, makes sense now that an axe would be in the cockpit as a PP said it would part of the safety equipment, so he didn't even need to get a weapon on the plane.

There was also a passenger, who was talking on video from the plane, with blood streaming down his face from a head wound, saying how the terrorist had been neutralised so it must have been quite a struggle to subdue him.

Oh a plane full of Israelis, the Omani pilot attacked the other pilot. The plane descends rapidly and only saved because others took over.

You can wait for the investigation but I'd bet a tenner the attacker said alla akbar at some point before trying to crash it.

Have a look at the background of at least one if the 9/11 hijackers..

Yes I know they'd done a course I didn't know they were employed as commercial pilots though.

AnyfoolcanknowThepointistounderstand · 30/09/2026 16:20

Apparently the attack on the pilot happened 2 and half hours into the flight.

30 mins from Tel Aviv when apparently, it would be too late for interception.

I'm sure you betted a tenner the other day too. You can carry on speculating, I will wait to see what is reported.

CarlaH · 30/09/2026 16:23

I assumed that the airline staff, like the passengers, would be searched before boarding. How on earth was one of them allowed to carry a weapon on to the plane?

Gloriia · 30/09/2026 16:24

When they do random drugs tests on pilots they should also do random social media/Internet search checks. See where ideology and interests lie. Massive breach of privacy obviously, still preferable to wiping out 180 people.

ACupOfVintage · 30/09/2026 16:25

AnyfoolcanknowThepointistounderstand · 30/09/2026 14:45

A passenger landed the plane apparently.

Passengers smashed the cockpit door open after hearing noises, a doctor among the passengers saved the Captain's life.

Terrorist co-pilot was neutralised, which must mean overpowered rather than eliminated.

Should have thought through hijacking a plane full of IDF veterans.

Gotta love Israel!

The passengers who landed the plain were two deadheading FlyDubai pilots.

DaisyDooley · 30/09/2026 16:25

We don’t have to ‘whip up islamaphobia’.
Muslims by their actions do it quite well themselves.
How many terrorist attacks in the last 25 yrs have NOT been committed in the name of ‘Islam’?? No wonder people are afraid.
Thank God there were two pilots on the plane -one of whom is being reported as being British. Brave men.
