Airplane terror attack

If stabbing a fellow pilot and trying to down a plane with 180 Israelis isn't terrorism what is?

It seems like a mass terrorism event has been fouled but heroes on an air plane this morning

Many if our news outlets are describing this as a stabbing on an airplane. No...if you stab the pilot and the plane plummet towards the ground that is an attempt at mass murder... terrorism.

Are the media so afraid now of using the word terrorism that they completely downplay the event. Third rated news article in the Guardian after political stories

It's a reminder of how many enemies Israel has and what they are prepared to do.

For the attention of Guardian headline writers. It is already being established that thr offending pilot was trying to crash the plane and basically the story is about a heroic prevention of mass terrorism.

This was not a case of two pilots feeding over a flight attendant or something and it got out of hand.

Yes, I saw this headline earlier today and thought that ‘feud’ was an odd choice of words.

Do you think it would be a fair investigation if it was in Israel? Where would a suitable independent country be? Who has no agenda?

As anyone in the aviation world will tell you, many countries will have an agenda.

Boeing, the NTSB, the UAE, Israel and possibly Jordan ( think in Jordanian airspace ) will all be involved.

There will be the flight data and cockpit voice recorder though, and those will be released as a part of the investigation.

Not to mention plenty of witness statements already out there.

I think this one will be relatively easy to solve.

Eastie77Returns · 30/09/2026 15:02

So terrifying. How did the passenger (thankfully) manage to kick down the door to the cockpit, I thought they were impossible to get past!

TheGander · 30/09/2026 15:03

It’s either terrorism or an attempted murder suicide, I can’t see any other explanation. I’d rule out a feud between the two pilots as this seems too extreme for that. Time will tell.

OnePeppyFatball · 30/09/2026 15:07

Sky news:

There have been conflicting reports about what happened on the plane throughout the day, as differing accounts emerged from passengers and their relatives.
But reports of a brawl between the two pilots have been consistent since this morning.

McChubble · 30/09/2026 15:10

Obviously we need to wait for more information but the sad truth is that given the plane was flying to Israel and had many Israelis on board, it is perfectly reasonable given the current climate to fear the motive was to murder Jewish people.

IzzyLeng · 30/09/2026 15:12

Thank god there were other pilots sat in the plane who could take over. What are the chances? The copilot looks very incapacitated.

The passenger wouldn't have been able to kick the door in. One of the pilots could have opened the door during the struggle obviously, other crew are able to access the cockpit but its an aviation secret exactly how security around the cockpit works post 9/11.

I’ve always wondered about this. Do the flight attendants have a way of getting in? If so surely that’s a risk because if someone holds a gun to their head they may let a hijacker in?

IzzyLeng · 30/09/2026 15:19

Maybe it’s terrorist oriented. Maybe not. They think the air Malaysia missing plane was pilot suicide. There was another case a few years ago of a pilot deliberately flying a passenger plane into a mountain and killing everyone on board.

There's already probably to much about the door in the public domain, but yes, the fine details and protocols aren't supposed to be discussed with those that don't need to know.

ETA: I guess that also addresses @IzzyLeng 's question.

mids2019 · 30/09/2026 15:25

Sorry but murder suicide doesn't wash as off the flights happening in the world why would a mentally ill pilot just happen to break down with a plane full of Israelis on their way to Tel Aviv.

I think this is terrorism until proven not so as it so likely to be correct. Waiting for investigations etc. is just a way to try and dampen the scale and nature of the event.

This is going to be such a strange thread if it turns out it was just two pilots who lost their shit and had a fight.

I don't think it will be unfortunately. If it happened in Sweden maybe but the middle East with a plane full of Israelis????

Was the offending pilot Muslim? (I presume so)

Sure, physical fights between pilots (including stabbing) happen all the time 🙄

It like those people in the US that killed a pilot to take a plane and accidently hit buildings in New York....shit happens. (sorry about the sarcasm)

They probably just had a ‘feud’, these things happen, right?
Because, what else could it possibly be?

Sesame2011 · 30/09/2026 15:44

The UAE government will cover it up, whatever it is.

inamarina · 30/09/2026 15:47

The pilot has now been arrested and is being questioned by the Saudi authorities.

AnyfoolcanknowThepointistounderstand · 30/09/2026 15:48

Reports coming out that the co-pilot was an Omani national who had worked for the Dubai airline for 9 months.

Reports that the pilot (who was very seriously wounded) was Emirati.

Also reports the weapon was an axe!

This was via a British man with relatives on the flight.

Quite surreal to see the Israeli passengers singing and clapping along to Am Israel Chai via a loudspeaker after the danger had been averted.

The attacked pilot, if it turns out it was an attack etc, who would be both the victim and an absolute hero in this case, is also most likely to be a Muslim.

From CNN:

What we don’t know
Who the attacker was: The identity of the attacker has not yet been shared by authorities.
How the attack took place: Details of any weapon used to attack the captain has not been shared. How the attacker was able to bring this weapon onto the plane, and exactly how the attack took place, is also currently unknown.
What the motive was: No potential motivation for the attempted hijacking has yet been given by any authorities.
How many people were on board: The exact number of people who were on the aircraft has not been shared. Though Flydubai said that all passengers are safe and accounted for, it is unknown if any were injured in this morning’s events.
