If stabbing a fellow pilot and trying to down a plane with 180 Israelis isn't terrorism what is?

It seems like a mass terrorism event has been fouled but heroes on an air plane this morning

Many if our news outlets are describing this as a stabbing on an airplane. No...if you stab the pilot and the plane plummet towards the ground that is an attempt at mass murder... terrorism.

Are the media so afraid now of using the word terrorism that they completely downplay the event. Third rated news article in the Guardian after political stories

It's a reminder of how many enemies Israel has and what they are prepared to do.

Do we know how many israelis were on board or you just assuming that from the number of passengers? It was flying from Dubai to Israel, so they could equally be a large number of Muslims on board, or frankly neither.

Clearly looks like terrorism and a hijacking, but I don't think we can assume their motives yet. I'm sure that will come out in time.

Lemonfrost · 30/09/2026 14:29

Perhaps we could wait for the facts first, as one of several things could have happened/been the motivation. Let's not whip this up anymore.

Ponderingwindow · 30/09/2026 14:30

The first news site I sought out for information on this had the word “hijack” in the headline so I don’t think they are shying away from talk of terrorism.

cupfinalchaos · 30/09/2026 14:31

Shows exactly how dangerous journalism can be.

OK not all passengers would be Israeli O grant you that. I do however think I all probability this was an attempt to kills as many Israelis as possible. Why else would you hijack a plane on the way to Tel Avov and allow it to plummet. Even if you did 'hijack' the plane where would you land it?

To my mind ot was a terrorist attack in the same manner as 9/11. I just feel we shouldn't be afraid to call this out.

The passengers were mainly Israelis.

Many videos on insta of singing Am Yisrael Chai and clapping as plane safely comes in to land.

I can't imagine their relief in coming out of this alive, the incident and plane movements during would have been absolutely terrifying.

Thank God no casualties.

I think 'hijack' was though technically correct in a way was a euphemism as the plane would not landed at an airport without obviously troops awaiting them. What would a motivation for a hijack be ....money????

Lets see what the investigation shows and not jump to any conclusions prematurely. Thank goodness there was no loss of life, and I hope the injured guys make a full recovery. Must have been terrifying for the passengers.

Absolute hero on board.to prevent this.

Now Israel will declare this as it is...a terrorist attack. I just wonder if other governments including our own will be willing (and corageous enough) to use the 't' word or is it just too offensive now ..

It's crazy, but we don't know it's a terror attack. There was a incident a few years ago on Horizon from Everett to San Fran. Off duty pilot was riding in the cockpit and tried to turn the engine off mid flight.Turns out he'd been taking magic mushrooms for depression. So its not necessary terror related.

Armorlux · 30/09/2026 14:38

There were a hundred Israelis on board according to Radio 4 news.
Terrifying experience.

Abra1t · 30/09/2026 14:38

Passengers must have been terrified.

Agree with the swntiment but I think people can easily reach their own conclusions about the actions of the plane. A pilot was stabbed and the plane taken over with what appears to be a terminal descent. What more do we have to know before declaring this terrorism.

How will a fair investigation take place if the jet is now in Saudi?

The plane squawked the code for hijacking.

There's videos online of the bloodied pilots and passengers who took down the perp.

It's a foiled terror attack. The target, perps and motives and goals are yet to be established- but its a foiled terror attack for sure.

It would be one hell of a coincidence if pilot happened to become suicidal lying depressed on a plane carrying Israelis in a region of conflict where terrorism is sadly common.

Damn right. Failed terror attack.

Call a spade a spade.

A passenger landed the plane apparently.

Passengers smashed the cockpit door open after hearing noises, a doctor among the passengers saved the Captain's life.

Terrorist co-pilot was neutralised, which must mean overpowered rather than eliminated.

Should have thought through hijacking a plane full of IDF veterans.

Gotta love Israel!

In the video I saw, terrorist co pilot if indeed that was who he was, receiving medical care while being kept subdued. Both pilots were cared for, both arrived alive. Even the one who most likely intended to murder everyone on that plane.

Should make a film out of this. Such cool heads but a lot of Israelis may be sadly grow up with semi expectation of something like this?

Do you think it would be a fair investigation if it was in Israel? Where would a suitable independent country be? Who has no agenda?

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/09/2026 14:53

I'm sure it's all perfectly innocent OP.

NOTHING TO SEE HERE

Armorlux · 30/09/2026 14:54

There were 2 off duty pilots on board - on their way to getting in position for next job - and at least one of them stabilised / landed the plane. So not your average passengers.
According to the news.

For the attention of Guardian headline writers. It is already being established that thr offending pilot was trying to crash the plane and basically the story is about a heroic prevention of mass terrorism.

This was not a case of two pilots feeding over a flight attendant or something and it got out of hand.

Pilot on Israel-bound plane stabbed co-pilot and tried to crash aircraft, passenger says

Israeli officials investigating if incident, which forced plane to make emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, was attempted terror attack

Bloody hell.

absolutely terrifying, and what heroes on board.

were both pilots Israeli? It seems it is terrorism but odd for it to be committed by an Israeli against Israel no? There was that germanwings plane a few years ago where it was pilot murder suicide so it could be that an a coincidence that it occurred on the way to Israel.

editing because I’ve just read they’re now saying it was a jihadist attack according to the Israeli defense minister
