If stabbing a fellow pilot and trying to down a plane with 180 Israelis isn't terrorism what is?

It seems like a mass terrorism event has been fouled but heroes on an air plane this morning

Many if our news outlets are describing this as a stabbing on an airplane. No...if you stab the pilot and the plane plummet towards the ground that is an attempt at mass murder... terrorism.

Are the media so afraid now of using the word terrorism that they completely downplay the event. Third rated news article in the Guardian after political stories

It's a reminder of how many enemies Israel has and what they are prepared to do.

So it looks like it’s been confirmed that it was an attempted terror attack:

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the UAE's Attorney General, Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, announced that preliminary investigations revealed the co-pilot explicitly intended to carry out a terrorist operation by using an emergency crash axe to attack the captain and seize control of the aircraft.

What a surprise.

Well this pretty much terror and I notice the Guardian has quietly dropped this story as well as the Green party basically taking the position Israel shouldn't exist. We'll have another interview from a Gaza resident soon I guess though

Verifying Device

Plenty of conspiracy theories on X including an elected British MP saying it was a false flag by Israel.

I think I know the post/MP you were on about and he was yelling about the inquiry had (past tense) been a stitch up almost before the Israeli passengers had got home, let alone been interrogated by the authorities...

Not sure if he's a complete muppet. a gobshite or just playing to his constituency.

UK politics has a problem.

Unfortunately the conspiracy theorists have already planted their seeds of doubt amongst the gullible, anti semites and anti west types.

The first news site I sought out for information on this had the word “hijack” in the headline so I don’t think they are shying away from talk of terrorism.

I saw several mainstream media titles about a "brawl" between the pilots, 🙄so yes I think there was definitely an attempt to play it down as "not terrorism".

Reuters for example: A pilot brawl, then a rapid descent: passengers recount chaos on flydubai flight

ETA: or the Guardian, which in the article itself talked about an "apparent brawl between pilots"
Mid-air panic as pilot attacked on Israel-bound flight - The Latest

"A commercial flight travelling from Dubai to Israel was forced to make an emergency landing after an apparent brawl between its pilots."

I kind of understand why a lot of the MSM went down that road for the first few hours....

It was probably more comforting/easier to think this was down to something like a disagreement over who got first choice of crew meals than actually consider that a bad actor had got on to a flight deck somewhere.

It was weird and simply poor journalism. It became fairly quickly established that this was some form of terrorist incident and the press should have ran with it All journalists obviously knew about 9/11 and yet so many embarrassed themselves by being so late to the truth (doesn't sit with the Guardian's wold view though )

Reports from the Israeli passengers about the all male cabin crew's behaviour indicate the possibility that it was a joint enterprise

Theres a CNN reel from a passenger that shows the 2 or 3 members of the cabin crew having to really raise their voice to get the passengers in economy to sit down. It also shows confusion about the dentist. He was sent forward by one lot of crew and sent back again, when he then went forward a second time he was allowed to stay. I think there’s a lot to be said about the Israelis having a heightened sense of awareness as the cabin crew in the video I mentioned were still looking immaculate whilst some of the passengers were looking bloody.

Also, one thing that’s bothering me. The huge boombox/beatbox that was used in the celebrations when the plane was on the ground and the passengers were still seated - despite giving it serious thought I still cant see how something that size could fit in an overhead locker and qualify as hand luggage.

Edited

There is a closet on the aircraft where you can store larger items if they don’t fit in the overhead locker.

notimagain · 06/10/2026 07:09

Haven't seen images of this boombox and I know it's tangential to the whole story but from ElAl's website:

"The maximum carry-on bag size on EL AL flights is up to 56 cm (length), 45 cm (width), and 25 cm(depth)."

That's a pretty decent allowance, not all airlines are as tight on carry-on sizing as some of the LoCos.

notimagain · 06/10/2026 07:28

Post to self: Idiot..

Write out one thousand times this was not on ElAl...

Flydubai seem to allow - 55 x 38 x 20 cm and 7 kg
