Airplane terror attack

If stabbing a fellow pilot and trying to down a plane with 180 Israelis isn't terrorism what is?

It seems like a mass terrorism event has been fouled but heroes on an air plane this morning

Many if our news outlets are describing this as a stabbing on an airplane. No...if you stab the pilot and the plane plummet towards the ground that is an attempt at mass murder... terrorism.

Are the media so afraid now of using the word terrorism that they completely downplay the event. Third rated news article in the Guardian after political stories

It's a reminder of how many enemies Israel has and what they are prepared to do.

I heard the captain was making a Bollywood TikTok skit when the brave Omani copilot had a heart attack and a guide dog landed the plane.

@rainingsnoring

For starters, how did this random plumber manage to walk into the cockpit and rescue a plane which was apparently charging towards the earth at such a speed that G Force would have made it impossible to even walk,

What's speed in a descent got to do with (small) g force...???

The g might only have become an issue when he got to the controls and the recovery from the dive was attempted.

Er....
Not sure what to say to this.

Yes, maybe this is what happened instead.

There is no need to wonder at the bravery because the story is clearly a fabrication. Anyone who is believing this narrative, just as it is being told, is clearly not thinking about things carefully.
For starters, how did this random plumber manage to walk into the cockpit and rescue a plane which was apparently charging towards the earth at such a speed that G Force would have made it impossible to even walk, never mind rescue the controls and land the plane perfectly in an airport?

A fabrication by whom? And for what reason?

Obviously not.

It's basic Physics/basic flying.

If for example you flew a 20 degree nose down descent in an airliner (not that you'd generally want to) even at high air speed you'd only be experiencing around 1g.

You'd certainly be able to walk down the aisle though it would feel like you were trying to walk down a steep ramp.

You need to wait to see any data released from the flight recorders before judging how easy or difficult movement would be.

The amount of ignorance I’ve seen on social media with people claiming it’s false is laughable. I used to work for the main airline of the UAE.

  1. Crew can enter the flight deck using a code in such emergencies.
  2. Crash axe is a part of the emergency equipment in the flight deck. Also found in the cabin.
  3. For people claiming it’s fake because the oxygen masks weren’t deployed, they would only deploy during a rapid decompression. No holes in the aircraft fuselage then they won’t deploy.
  4. For those saying the aircraft would break apart at such a descent, during a rapid decompression the flight crew fly it down to 10000ft as fast as possible. The rudder was damaged.

While living in the Gulf, the amount of times I’ve heard the holocaust never happened, 9/11 was an inside job and that Osama and Saddam are heroes is laughable.

I watched an interesting interview yesterday, where the historian Izabella Tabarovsky explained how Cold War-era Soviet campaigns shaped modern anti-Israel narratives and conspiracy theories.

As a prime example, she pointed to Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian National Authority, and the dissertation he completed at a Moscow university.

In this dissertation, Abbas claimed that Zionist leaders intentionally collaborated with the Nazis to expand the mass extermination of European Jews, allegedly to weaponise international sympathy to force the creation of a Jewish state.

Tabarovsky explained that any historical contact between Zionist officials and the Nazi regime stemmed from a desperate attempt to rescue German Jews and salvage some of their assets before the Holocaust.

She also noted that this distorted narrative successfully obscured the historical fact that the Palestinian Arab nationalist leader, Haj Amin al-Husseini, explicitly collaborated with Adolf Hitler, and that the Soviet Union itself signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop non-aggression pact with Nazi Germany.

Inversion seems to be a popular tactic when it comes to Jews and Israel.

Lol. You've got your knickers in a twist over this because you can't find it in yourself to believe a story of Israeli, Indian and Saudi people working to defeat the terror threat. I know this post won't last as pointing this out to you might be seen as some by a personal attack, but you are so full of preconceived ideas about what Israeli people are like that this simply... does not compute.
It's on video. It's on data. There's eyewitness accounts. Its a really positive story. And you can't see it. I feel really sorry for you.

I’ll say it then -

You should pay attention to what @notimagain posts given they have spent their career as a pilot and are an invaluable source of information on both civilian and military aviation threads. In fact I’d say they are the most informed poster on Mumsnet regarding these things.

Actually I am genuinely grateful for the transparency of @rainingsnoringposts.

It simply demonstrates how certain cultures and groups are simply not compatible with Western values yet in a world of "be kind" are tolerated.

The number of ‘nah, not buying it’ posts I’ve seen on social media regarding this incident is mind-boggling.
I mean, many of the posts on FB might be bots, but still.
There seem to be so many people out there who are absolutely determined to view Israel and anything to do with it in a very specific, predetermined light.

A fabrication, hmmm? Like the fabrication that Hamas terrorists raped, murdered and took hostage Israelis and visitors, while filming it all and posting the videos online? Don’t be so naive, Jelly, of course that was all fabricated by the Israelis. Or perhaps like the fabrication that 6 million Jews were murdered bytheNazis during WW2? Don’t be silly, Jelly, they were just sent to work camps. Maybe it wasn’t so pleasant there, but who on earth would render down human beings for their fat, or burn them to use their ashes as fertiliser, or flay them to make parchment lampshades from their skin? Anyway, it was all part of a world Zionist plot to - what?

You make me feel sick with your attitude.

Agree.
The interview with the historian Izabella Tabarovsky I’ve mentioned on here previously is really eye-opening.

She was focusing specifically on Soviet-era antisemitism, the way the Soviets rephrased it as anti-Zionism, the way they twisted and misrepresented historical data.
Their particular contribution to a millennia-old hatred.

The “fabrication” accusations are sadly nothing new.

The point is the airline had signed a clause saying they would not allow pilots from countries like Oman (who have not signed a normalisation clause with Israel) to fly into Israel. They broke that clause and will be heavily punished financially for doing so I expect.

Though yes it will give those tasked with improving air travel security a lot to consider and changes will likely be made as a result of this incident.

Let them be fined. The perpetrator could have come from any country surrounding Israel or further though. I’m sure no-one is seriously saying « if only they stuck to that clause, this could have been prevented «

Of course it's racism. Most people wouldn't know the difference between a Muslim person and a Hindu person simply by watching them walk past with a back pack on the underground. Perhaps someone who had PTSD from being involved in a terror attack with particular individuals might be hardwired as you describe but not regular people. No, they would just be racists.

I can.

You do realise not all Muslims are brown? 🙄My son is half Palestinian with blonde hair and hazel eyes. Fairer complexion than me. Not saying all Hindus are brown either.

Having lived in Oman, UAE and having travelled to the vast majority of Islamic countries with my previous airline, I can tell a Muslim and a Hindu apart. I can tell if someone is Palestinian as they have a distinctive nose compared to neighbouring countries. I’ve never guessed wrong.

It’s quite funny you will brand anyone a racist who goes against your views. For the record, do you have any experience working in aviation or living in an Islamic country?

So it looks like it is only El Al that has the high levels of security on board, if indeed they still do. I remember reading that armed officers flew on every flight. I could have that wrong, I'm not a professional information source! I do know that their security at arrival ports and airports is very thorough and strict, or at least it was. I was selected for extra screening ON ARRIVAL in Tel Aviv on a ferry from Cyprus back a good few years ago. It was very thorough, and very frightening for me a young woman heading off to see the country. I lived to tell the tale.

So what I'm curious about - is there any extra security at airports that service Israeli destinations now, i.e. at the gates, is that even allowed on foreign soil or is normal security accepted as adequate, and checks are on arrival, just wondered.

Having worked for the mother airline, I only experienced security members onboard flights to and from Iraq and Afghanistan. Didn’t do a TLV flight as they were introduced when I was resigning.

BerthaPotts · Today 19:22

Surely most people wouldn't be able to tell a Indian Muslim and a Indian Hindu apart. Unless they were dressed in religious clothing.

El Al used to get extra security at Heathrow, probably still do (e.g. very obvious extra Met police coverage around their check-in area at times).

Don't know what went on behind the scenes there or onboard.

In my time working there nothing out of the normal for other operators heading to Israel, don't know if that has changed.....but TLV was always an interesting place to operate into and out of because of the security.

ArcangelaTarabotti · Today 19:43

I fly a lot to and from Grenoble airport where unlike recently El Al also used fly with extreme security over those flights.
I was kinda surprised that would be a regular destination from Tel Aviv (mostly skiiers use that airport) but was told that a small provincial airport is much easier to secure and police. Which does make sense. .
Tho’ this year have not seen those flights.

PurpleThistle7 · Today 21:25

It wasn’t a random plumber anyway. The vast majority of Israeli adults are IDF veterans and every single Israeli living in Israel has had some level of training in terrorist attacks. They grow up with bomb shelters and car rammings and are raised by parents and grandparents who experienced the 60s-70s when there were a slew of plane hijackings (kidnappings for the most part instead of the even more insane suicide attackers but still). So it would be odd for a plane of Israelis to be particularly surprised or not ready for an attack.

Whatever the reason for this pilot to lose his mind, the end result was the best possible scenario for those on board and that’s what I am thinking about this Shabbat.

and rescue a plane which was apparently charging towards the earth at such a speed that G Force would have made it impossible to even walk, never mind rescue the controls and land the plane perfectly in an airport?

But that’s exactly what happened to the plane.

Do you know what Flight Radar 24 is? Do you know just how many people watch planes on that every day?

Over on the Flight Radar 24 Reddit sub, this incident was being discussed well before any details made it to the press.

You could actually replay the flight’a path, and watch it nosedive over Saudi Arabia.

The plane then squawked 7500 (hijaking) and then 7700 (medical emergency). People were watching this, in real time, and trying to figure out what was going on. The consensus was that the 7500 squawk was just an accident. But the details didn’t emerge until a while later.

There is no apparently about it. There is no need to “think carefully”. Unless, of course, you are suggesting that Flight Radar 24 fabricated data in real time of a flight nose diving at a decent rate of minus 31600 feet per minute?

And someone clearly pulled that flight out of the dive. Flight Radar 24 shows that happening. Why is it so hard to believe it was a plumber? Anyway, it was the other pilots on board the flight who landed the plane, not the guy who intuitively pulled the yoke back to pull the plane’s nose up.
