I’m watching an Emirates flight from Seattle circling around trying to land. Sky News are reporting that the sirens have gone off.

F bloody Trump.

Well that depends on whether you see the entire SoH as Iranian waters and under their jurisdiction or as an international waterway.

Exactly. It's international waters. I think the US and Iran are equal on the scale of arsehole war mongers.

Well if you think that the SoH are Iranian waters then the US would be arseholes for trying to transit them without Iranian permission. But if you think they the SoH are international waterways then the Iranians would be arseholes for attacking transiting ships and neighbouring countries.

It really is one or the other depending on your viewpoint.

I have no idea when it was invented or first incorporated in to military planning! I do know that school was established in 2016 (open source).

So that must mean that the satellite images used by the AI must have been more than 10 years old - maybe they weren't updating the images more frequently because there were absolutely no plans to bomb Iran [see previous US administrations' wargaming which said attacking Iran was a bad idea] so the old images were fine

The actual target was a nearby IRGC barracks and you would probably not expect it to move even over a ten year period but there was further development of the site to build the school

It has been around since the mid 1900s - the first chatbot was made in 1966!

Wow

If someone thinks they bombed a school because they thought Iranians are dark skinned, then I think the person who thinks that is the one with issues. It makes no sense on so many levels. Starting with the fact that Iranians are the original Aryans, and have paler skin than many Americans.

And then there’s the utter military pointlessness and counterproductive nature of bombing a school when they were hoping to trigger an uprising against the regime in place. There was no surer way of getting the locals enraged against the US, which is exactly what they didn’t want to do.

It also makes them look incompetent. Again, hardly a wished-for outcome.

Absolutely agree.

Not per UNCLOS. Approx half Iran, half Oman. Depending on their baselines published and lodged with the UN. Baselines being set from the low water mark. Frrom that the 12 nautical miles territorial sea is mapped out, then the next 12 contiguous sea, then the 200 mile EEZ.

Countries get 12 miles of sea as their territory.

Freedom of navigation is a thing. But there is not much international water.

Here's a sample of it, fascinating stuff! Subject matter made me chuckle.

Just like the Channel is part English part French territorial waters. Limited international waters.

Yup. And freedom of navigation is by convention. The convention that neither Iran nor the US have ratified.

Jesus wept! How on earth could you extrapolate that conclusion from what I wrote? It was a sarcastic nod to ICE dealings with foreigners in the US.

Given that many Americans are from different ethnicities, so of varying skin tones, and the original Aryans were from Central Asia, of course, they would have paler or darker skin than many Americans.

If Israel need a buffer zone,
which is the excuse they are using, then they should create it on their own land not their neighbours

They have a far lower population density in the north.

This is classic land grab.

Just like Theyve done in Gaza,
the West Bank and the Golan Heights

Its not rocket science

Israel is such a small country to use land as buffer zones to stop the terrorists from firing missiles into its territory. If the terrorists don't stop attacks, then buffer zones from the land they are firing from seem to be a way to keep.thdm away. Unfortunately, the Lebanon government have no control over the terrorists firing from there. They did condemn Hezbollah for the attacks but strangely terrorists don't listen.

If only Iran would stop funding hezbollah and hamas, so a few more countries could live in peace. Jordan, UAE, Saudi, Oman, Egypt etc seem to manage it,

So, what do we make of this? It was mentioned earlier either on this thread or another, the 7700 squawk signal went out from this KC-135 stratotanker but we've no further idea what has happened.

In the Hegseth press conference today they announced the names of US service ppl killed in Jordan in January. I can't remember that from the time. I recall CNN reports of a Patriot radar being hit in Jordan from then, but denials I think from the war dpt.

It does appear the US are not reporting. And I don't think it helps that all the States in the area are authoritarian.

Stirabout · 05/05/2026 17:33

Create a buffer on their own land? Isn't that unreasonable though? Supposing a terrorist group sets up in eastern Wales and starts shooting missiles into the Midlands. Should we move everyone in Herefordshire away from the border, or should we go and try to rout out the terrorists? There's no real easy answer to this and whichever way you look at it there will be loss of life.

You're using 'land grab' to dismiss the fact that those places were/are heavily populated with terrorists (S.Lebanon and Gaza). This is the problem, those terrorists have so infiltrated the local populations that it's nearly impossible to eradicate them without killing innocent people. So... better go back to letting them carry on and terrorise Israel, is that what you're saying?

Yep
Rout out the terrorists
don’t steal land

That’s all Israel are doing
and Israel are using war as an excuse to achieve that now both in Gaza and Lebanon
It was always the plan

Israel is a small country with a low population density

Gaza has one of the highest population densities in the world and is tiny yet Israel has stolen land so no one can use size as an excuse.

You don’t steal land to make a buffer zone.
You steal if because that is and always was the plan
Do you not recall Netanyahus address at the UNGA. in 2023

That Flightradar doesn't give the full picture on a good day and it's flaky as heck over the Gulf ATM.

7700 means something was amiss to some degree, but hard to say how amiss.

can I post more
ill hold off the maps as they might be far too scary

Population densities people / km2

Israel 430/455 / km2
Lebanon 557/574 / km2
Gaza 5500/6100 / km2

🤨🧐 interesting

ShockingBritain · 05/05/2026 21:12

Notonthestairs · 05/05/2026 18:13

Israel is twice the size of Lebanon.

It's the only Jewish state in a huge middle east predominantly Muslim, some of whom have terrorist organisations that would happily slaughter every Jewish person. Although many don't care about that.

GentleSheep · 05/05/2026 21:26

Take a close look at the emblem of Hamas - I thought that green pointy shape at the top was a blade of some kind. No - it's the state of Israel, or as Hamas would call it, Palestine. They are committed to replacing Israel with an Islamic Palestine.

So I’ve just counted 12 RAF planes/helicopters and 3 Qatari Air Force planes over the UK. Given that it’s now 10.20pm, is that normal?
