I’m watching an Emirates flight from Seattle circling around trying to land. Sky News are reporting that the sirens have gone off.

F bloody Trump.

I hate Trump, but it's Iran firing drones and missiles. Throwing a tantrum because US ships are in the Strait.

Do you not think you are minimizing USA and Israel's involvement in this?

Plasticdreams · 05/05/2026 07:03

Emilesgran · 05/05/2026 00:28

I hope you don’t think I’m defending the US here. I think the attack on Iran was a typical example of Trump chancing his arm thinking it would all work out within hours or days, and now he’s desperate to get out of it. I’m not a fan.

But even apart from the fact that two wrongs don’t make a right, I’m fairly certain that the school was bombed by mistake. Just as the US bombed several wedding parties and the like in Afghanistan. And that, regrettable as all such mistakes are, they’re still not the same as choosing to commit an illegal act.

Whether it was a mistake or not, it’s still illegal,
Trrump and Hegseth are evil and I personally do not believe it was a mistake.

I wouldn't call it a mistake either. It was caused by a lack of concern for 'brown people'. The US, with all the tech at its command, couldn't be arsed to check and just used old data when newer would have shown it was a school they were targetting. I don't think they have ever taken any responsibility for the children's deaths, or apologised.

They appear to have used AI to generate at least some of their target sets (lists) for the initial strikes.

Since some of these sets probably contained thousands of targets laziness/lack of resources then deemed there was no human check.

FWIW there's now rumoured to have been at least one instance of AI being embedded in the decision chain causing loss of US life.

Do you seriously blame Iran for objecting to those US ships?

Yes old data - school was built 10 years ago on what had previously been a military site plus lack of human oversight of AI sets proved to be a lethal combination - a kind of carelessness/disregard rather than deliberate or 'on purpose'

Tragic loss of many young lives

The UAE and South Korea are very angry with Iran now after more attacks on them.

According to Al Jazeera, Reuters are reporting that the South Korea presidential office is investigating if the country can participate in Trump’s “Project Freedom” in the SoH.

Well that depends on whether you see the entire SoH as Iranian waters and under their jurisdiction or as an international waterway.

Notonthestairs · 05/05/2026 08:14

This war was ill conceived - big plans to get in, none to get out - and all the predicted consequences have come to fruition.

I don't think that was what Reuters reported, hence the importance of providing links to support info being posted.

I follow South Korean news closely and this was not what their national newspapers were saying, so I checked Reuters.

This is what Reuters actually said.
South Korea's Foreign Ministry, the Defence Ministry and the presidential office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump's post.

South Korea has previously said it would carefully consider Trump's call for countries to deploy navy ships to form a coalition to ensure safe passage through the waterway, while also stressing such a move would require legislative approval.

That's polite Korean speak for "no can do".

You haven’t provided a link yourself and often don’t?

I will provide the link to the Al Jazeera report in a minute.

South Korea considering participation in Trump’s ‘Project Freedom’

Reuters reports that South Korea’s presidential office is investigating whether the country can participate in Trump’s “Project Freedom” in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US leader recently announced a new military operation to “guide” ships out of the key waterway.

So take it up with Al Jazeera @logicisall if you think they didn't report the situation accurately.

I gave the source as Al Jazeera reporting what Reuters said.

Oh yes
Israel is flattening southern Lebanon and has been throughout the ceasefire
they don’t stop just because others do

Why not use northern Israel for that. Far lower population density there than southern Lebanon
but of course it’s not actually about a buffer zone
Enter…land grab

You do understand that Southern Lebanon is where Hezbollah are? That's where they target northern Israel. It would be pretty pointless for them to hang out in the north of Lebanon. That's why Israel are targeting that area. There would be no point to targeting the north!

Edit: too early for me and using 'target' too many times, sorry! 😳

I see that things are quiet once again on flightradar. UAE did announce this morning that all flights between Dubai and Sharjah have been suspended.

Regarding the U.S. attacks on the school in Minab, please check out the video and the article.

The video contains information such as what is identifiable through satellite data to drone operators or pilots, when the attacks occurred, the precision of the targeted area, and the fact that there were three attacks on the school.

168 children aged between 7 and 11 were killed. There were three missile projectiles, and when the school was first hit, most of the children were still alive and were evacuated to the prayer hall. Then the prayer hall was hit.

The Middle East Eye article was published on 4 March 2026, which was way before the missile was identified as a U.S. Tomahawk (8 March 2026)

I spy on Marine Traffic one tanker on its way to Singapore through the Strait. I wonder whether it will get through. It's flying the Panama flag.
