Conflict in the Middle East

Trump is desperate. How can he resolve the Iran shitshow?

1000 replies

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/04/2026 00:32

He is flailing, desperate and increasingly unhinged. Weakening the USA, alienating allies and strengthening the enemies of democracy with every step.

How can he fix this?
Can he fix it at all?

He doesn’t want to fix it, he just wants to say he’s the winner. He is the dictionary definition of a megalomaniac.

He’s acting like one of my kids does when he’s embarrassed or caught out in a lie - belligerent, loud and a bit sweary. I’m expecting a full on flounce and a slammed door.

In any other country he’d have been forced out one way or the other. Except the ones with dictators. Hmmm.

Neveranynamesleft · 06/04/2026 00:45

Would love to know what Melania really thinks of him.

What does it take for him to claim winner-hood?

He set no objectives for this war. He's lost billions of dollars, 1000s of lives and most of his friends. How can he possibly come out of this with a "win"?

It's so hard to keep up with who he starts on I had to double check in case he had started war with Iraq!

They are striking Iraq too. Iran, Isreal and the US are all striking Iraq.

Yes, but context is important. Israel and the US are currently strategic partners with Iraq, and they are assisting rid Iraq of cells that no one, including the Iraq government, wants. That means bombing where the fells are, with the current blessing of Iraq.

Iraq are protesting diplomatically about it. I think the strikes are against the Iraqi "Popular Mobilisation Forces", that the US say are Iran linked, but are actually part of the Iraqi security forces. I can't link an article sorry (censored web where I am), should be easy to find on a good news source.

Thanks, that’s very handy, good to know. I did get the information I had from the news but very willing to accept that is wrong. So, US and Israel are attacking an unwilling Iraq as well, which would seem shit but just an expansion of the shitfest I’d think😞.

Yup. I did see it on a newsfeed (I can get CNN and Sky), and I saw it on one of them. But the nature of these feeds appears to be a lack of separate articles with more detail, so not really wrong, just so much going on. I did search for the story at the time and got more info, but those are gone now where I am. There has also been strikes at an Iraq/Iran border crossing, and different factions of Kurds. I think the war is used a bit as cover for old scores from all sides, the US very much being one of those sides ?

TomeTome · 06/04/2026 07:02

“Mistaking” Iraq for Iran is a bit like mistaking Canada for the USA.

MushMonster · 06/04/2026 07:45

I thought you actually meant Iraq! And I was not even surprised! That is how bad this is going.....
Iraq and Syria are in the permanent bombing list, I think. Alongside Lebanon. Whatever happens, they get it!

I think Trump can say "I won!", pack his ships and go home, now this very moment better than 5 minutes later. Go home, take an aspirin and have a rest. Let the rest of the world to sort the mess. He needs not to worry about Hormuz, the World will get it going. Because Trump is unable to resolve this. There is no way he can get out of this but by sailing away.

MushMonster · 06/04/2026 07:50

Oh, and on his way back home, he could just leave Cuba alone! And scrap his plans to take over Greenland and Canada.
He has plenty of internal issues to sort, like Medicare, Medicaid, Daycare, the Ball room, the voting list and so on and on.....
Somebody needs to remove his flipping Truth Social thing away and keep him quiet!

Wildgoat · 06/04/2026 08:00

I agree the sweary tweet made me think he was desperate.

i think winning now is just getting the strait opened safely.

what surprises me most in all this is Iran is bombing and attacking all its neighbours in the gulf, and not one of them is doing anything about it. Not even trying to stop Iran doing it. Just sitting there being bombed.

MushMonster · 06/04/2026 08:13

About the Gulf States sitting there being bombed.

That is because reasonable people do not want to escalate war. They want a world where rules are followed, people act with honor, particularly if you are leading a country, they talk through their issues and reach compromises for the good of their people.
They are not stupid. They are betting for peace, in the long term. Or would they better start bombing Iran? With massive fire exchange going both ways? All vital infraestructure destroyed in less than a week. And then Trump's family business selling them weapons, emptying their purses, draining them, and then they will turn up and rebuild the whole ME, same very pals, and keep all these countries in a massive debt spiral for decades. The conditions of some many people living in the ME is bad enough as it was in February. This is not the Gulf States war. They were not consulted and, as far as I know, not even told. There is enough noise from Trump's administration about the Gulf States paying for this war, because "they are making them a favour".
But, back to the real world, the US actions have proved that the US brings war, economic disaster and instability, instead of peace. And US will keep that stain on it selffor a long while after Trump is gone.

Handeyethingyowl · 06/04/2026 08:26

He’s totally deranged over Iran. I read yesterday that invoking the 25th amendment is becoming more than a distant thought in the US.

It was in the news the other day that he wants to cut all non-military spending by 10% and increase the defense war budget to $1.5 trillion.

So cuts to medicaid and more guns. Lots more guns.

I know.
But he told MAGA exactly the opposite, in order to be elected. So now he needs to stick to America First. At least I wish he could focus on what he promised, no wars abroad and all that.
The truth is that he is beyond rubbish both internally and internationally. He is a huge wotsit bully, utter useless.

Tanyyya · 06/04/2026 08:54

I think the longer this drags on, it makes the whole of America look deranged for not being able stop this crazy man.

He can’t, but he still will!

Unfortunately there are still millions of Americans who believe whatever comes out of his mouth, and think everything else is fake news. Brainwashed simpletons.

Emilesgran · 06/04/2026 10:22

I'm pretty sure they thought the Iranian regime would collapse once they took out Khamenei, and the previous protesters would take over the streets, leading to a local take over of power.

I think the problem is they left it two months too late: Iran killed so many of the leaders of the protests that the followers are too frightened and also disorganised to try again. The security forces are almost certainly too compromised now by how many innocent protesters they killed to risk changing sides.

And that's assuming that the protesters could have succeeded two months ago if they'd had help from air strikes, which is not even sure. But at the moment they definitely can't.

What that leads to, I don't know.
