Conflict in the Middle East

Why aren't women and children being evacuated from gaza?

AutumnFog · 24/07/2025 02:40

I've just seen horrific photos of starving children on a news article. Why on earth are we not evacuating them? The population isn't huge, if split between many countries the cost of supporting them would be minimal compared to other expenditure.
I don't understand how it's been left to get to this point without anyone intervening, or really how everyone hasn't intervened.
Who cares about the land at this point, these are children who are likely to die by the look of them, who could live a happy healthy life somewhere else.

That's interesting, because when Mosab Hassan Yousef talks of his Palestinian experience, he's not believed. Funny that.

Mosab Hassan Yousef is a professional clown. Most importantly, he’s not even Palestinian but from Egypt. And this is the crux of the matter. Muslims back each other up all the time, no matter what. Why? Simply because they share the same beliefs and religion. Doesn’t it strike you as daft, somewhat? What if Christians started doing the same and ALWAYS supported each other? Example: I’m an European Christian. What if I started supporting Putin and Russia just because they are Christian too? You would think I was mad and an asshole, right? Amd you would be absolutely right!

SquallyShowersLater · 24/07/2025 18:11

Because Israel won't let them out in one direction and Egypt won't let them out in the other. No-one seems to care much about Egypt though. You have to ask yourself why.

My point is, Finkelstein is meant to be revered because of his Jewish ancestry. One thing Hassan Yousef is not, is a professional clown. Agree to disagree, there.

Your last sentence, reaffirms what I said. You also think all Jews agree with the Marxist, Finkelstein, who demonises Israel? I bet you wouldn't have shown interest, otherwise. The holocaust isn't some political football.

Who are you to tell me what I think or don’t think? Shown interest? What on earth are you talking about.

Next you’ll be calling me anti semetic for having an opinion that doesn’t firmly put the blame on the children of Gaza who are being starved to death.

No The holecaust isn’t a political football but neither are dead children who have no access to food, water or anything and are being starved to death.

Here you are defending what’s going on while thousands of Jews are marching in Tel Aviv carrying bags of flour against the starvation in Gaza and to end the genocide.

I'm saying you are being selective in your reading, while trying to assert Finkelstein as some authority.

BTW: if you're going to suggest another poster "pick up a history book", be prepared to defend that statement and not go in a huff, when it's questioned.

notimagain · 24/07/2025 18:02

Well of course the first ptoblem is Gaza hasn't got an airport, so the first practical issue is would Israel or one of it's neighbours (e.g. Egypt) allow use of one of their's and also allow safe passage of refugees

I think the time has come where someone needs to at least make an effort to try and arrange to move people out to safety. We cant just watch ?

Feel sorry for me? There’s really no need, spare your feelings for me, please. Second of all, it is a passive aggressive statement, disguised as genuine concern. It’s a very female thing to say, at least I never hear such things from men.
Why wouldn’t I believe something on YouTube? If we all just listened to BBC and CNN, we would be kept in ignorance. No thank you!

I agree. If Egypt took to the public stage to say that they will take in all women and children from Gaza, then politically they back Israel into a corner. They would be supported by the international community who want an end to the appalling conditions for ordinary Gazans. So why the silence? Its time for practical action not handwringing.

Don’t worry I read the JC regularly as well if that helps.

Surprised given your views. It’s a bit like the Sun newspaper in its heyday. Nobody admits to reading it but at one point 3 million people in this country did.

You're brave - I give you that!

WitcheryDivine · 24/07/2025 18:53

I presume that many would leave if they could. But many would stay fearing an even more precarious life as unsettled refugees. I don’t think many of us would choose to leave our own countries unless absolutely desperate. If many/most of the population left Gaza what do we think would happen next? Genuine question.

So are you saying Palestinians in the West Bank are from Egypt? Hamas is an Egyptian terrorist group?

He certainly doesn’t support Islam.

Are you a bit confused?

I think you mean Bassem Youssef who is certainly a clown, an Egyptian and absolutely deranged from his recent performance on Piers Morgan IMO.

It’s true that Mosab is not listened to despite having lived experience of growing up within Hamas and experiencing both sides.

Norman Finkelstein is a leftist useful idiot who was born in and lives in the US. So what if his parents were holocaust survivors? A vast amount of Jewish people’s parents were holocaust survivors sadly.

Yes, I meant that silly clown! 😄Gosh, these Arabic names all sound the same to me.
I realise you mean the “son of Hamas”? I love that guy!

They don't want to.
This isn't even a possibility.
They, or at the very least their government hate Palestinians. They don't trust them at all as they have regularly turned on countries who have taken them in previously. The wall is to keep Egypt safe.

StarlightRobot · 24/07/2025 20:33

Why is the West being blamed for all of this when the Arab world is doing nothing whatsoever to help its neighbours?

We do all the time though. It is horrible and sad but the reality is a lot of the world is horrible and sad. Lots of children are dying of malnutrition and related causes every day, 7000 a day globally, I think it’s the worlds biggest killer of under 5’s. Only due to get worse due to foreign aid budget cuts.

Are we going to fly in and save them all? Or is it only Gazans that matter?

StarlightRobot · 24/07/2025 20:33

Because it's much easier to blame western super powers, than it is the so called underdogs. That and the lack of understanding of historical Arab relationships. People don't want to learn - they would rather blame Israel than believe that Islam extremism is a threat. Extremism, whereby the term "brother" makes arabs wary.

I was listening to an American diplomat on a podcast who dpent a lot of time in the region and he said as soon as someone called him brother he knew to watch his back.

Not my words
Why the need to repeat it? You also don't say whether you agree with it or not
