Conflict in the Middle East

Why aren't women and children being evacuated from gaza?

AutumnFog · 24/07/2025 02:40

I've just seen horrific photos of starving children on a news article. Why on earth are we not evacuating them? The population isn't huge, if split between many countries the cost of supporting them would be minimal compared to other expenditure.
I don't understand how it's been left to get to this point without anyone intervening, or really how everyone hasn't intervened.
Who cares about the land at this point, these are children who are likely to die by the look of them, who could live a happy healthy life somewhere else.

Not my words
Why the need to repeat it? You also don't say whether you agree with it or not

Oh FFS - it's relevant in the context of evolving arab nations. I don't have to say whether I agree with it. So you can say it about Israel's outlook on Palestinians but believe everything is sweetness and light elsewhere. Look at why other arabs aren't taking in Palestinians. This over sensitivity is stifling discussions.

I was listening to an American diplomat on a podcast who dpent a lot of time in the region and he said as soon as someone called him brother he knew to watch his back.

That's exactly what I referred to above.

The starving children thing has already been debunked. It’s Palestinian propaganda. They basically put children who have cancer in front of the camera and make them say things for the footage. I saw it on YouTube.

You saw it on that credited source You tube 😂

Tiredofwhataboutery · 24/07/2025 21:04

StarlightRobot · 24/07/2025 20:33

Why is the West being blamed for all of this when the Arab world is doing nothing whatsoever to help its neighbours?

I think this is true it suits the propaganda look at what Israel has done propped up by the West.

I think the reality there’s millions of people displaced by war and starving by conflicts within the region before you even consider this war. I think people harden up to it. Egypt has been struggling with a massive refugee population for years, over a million from Sudan since 2023. A conflict that has generated many starving children that hardly anyone cares about.

Palestinian refugees are a seen as a poisoned chalice with their brotherly extremism and tendency to try towards takeovers. I mean if you were Jordan would you?

Stifling a discussion? that's not what this is you are all too busy trying to outdo yourselves with offensive statements about Palestinians

They're sources, just not reliable ones but of course you know this.
Despite it's best efforts, Israel can't hide the images of what's happening and that's being picked up by the real sources.

You're too busy focusing on one little faction. Normally it will be calling IDF for everything. As soon as a different view is offered, which doesn't accord with your own, suddenly labels shouldn't be used. Israel are called scum etc. As I said, those aren't my words - it's a concept which is very much part of the bigger picture and yes, there IS a bigger picture.

BBC, oh what a reliable, unbiased source…NOT! You might as well watch Al Jazeera.
I guess you will try and discredit anyone who doesn’t say what you want to hear.

This is the BBC, that broke broadcasting rules with the Gaza documentary.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 24/07/2025 21:29

@Tiredofwhatabouterydo you remember the name of the podcast? It sounds interesting.

Teaforthetotal · 24/07/2025 21:31

I don't think the bbcs rules on bias come into it when reporting a genocide. Right-thinking people were glad it was shown. Sounds like you almost don't want us to know about atrocities going on in Palestine. Almost like you have an agenda 😂

Ah, so you're being selective in what you believe or stand for. Got it. At least one of you has finally admitted it.

PeonyPatch · 24/07/2025 21:51

I feel so hopeless and heart broken watching this unfold. What can I do as a woman living in the UK to help Gazan people?

MagicTape · 24/07/2025 21:56

Because the Palestinians in the Middle East are about as popular as the Roma in Europe. Nobody wants them and nobody is going to open up the borders to let them in.

Egypt turned on Palestinians in the 60s and 70s and has only got more repressive, particularly in relation to anything they perceive as Islamic terrorism (having had their own issues with Muslim Brotherhood - they're not going to be cheerily welcoming in anyone who might conceivably be associated with Hamas, by which they mean anyone in Gaza).

Lebanon keeps Palestinians literally behind walls, which were just about large enough to accommodate them at the end of WWII but is nowhere near sufficient for future generations. The Lebanese government gives zero fucks about the human rights of the Palestinians there. They are mostly denied citizenship, identity documents, education, employment and freedom of movement.

Jordan doesn't allow all Palestinians citizenship particularly anyone from Gaza. ECOI information says that they live in poverty and suffer continuous discrimination.

Syria's on fire.

The innocent people in Gaza should be evacuated - the problem is that the neighbouring countries are very cynical about who is an innocent person, and don't want them even if they are. And would Hamas allow their civilian shield to be evacuated anyway? I'n not at all sure that they would, even if a country could be found which would willingly take them. I'd gladly vote (from my glorious position as a voting woman in a democratic society) for a policy which would bring civilian Gazan Palestinians here to the UK, but I strongly suspect I would not be on the winning side of that vote.

Teaforthetotal · 24/07/2025 22:05

Admitted that i hate genoicide? I do. Keir Starmer has spoken out about the horror there this evening too. I mean, obviously heard this on BBC but upthread you've said you don't trust them as a source.
Everyone's speaking out now!

cremedelacraps · 24/07/2025 22:21

I think a good question is why doesn’t Egypt open its border with Gaza?

Eqypt doesn't want them but this is an uncomfortable truth so people ignore it.

I was talking about being selective in what you choose to believe, and what should be highlighted for bias. Talking of being selective, Is this the Keir Starmer, whose name has been mud? Of course the UK PM is going to talk about a humanitarian crisis. He also called for Hamas to release the hostages.

Exactly. Notice how none of Israel's detractors ever post in response to arab neighbours not taking in Palestinians. Well, except to pull you apart on describing how Palestinians are viewed by those neighbours.

GeneralPeter · 25/07/2025 03:20

It serves the political and security interests of Hamas, Israel, the surrounding Arab states, and much of the West to have them stay. And Arab states have learned from experience that Palestinians they have sheltered have often ended up destabilising their politics.

You’ve have spent this entire thread spouting nonsense. Why should the Palestinians leave their own land? Just because Israel wants to turn it into some sun soaked tourist spot?

Your views are so warped and depressing but sadly not unheard of on this platform. Just for a moment have some empathy for those women and children who are being killed relentlessly for no reason. Being starved to death. I’m assuming you’re a mother. Imagine it was your child that you couldn’t help. Imagine your child was standing in a queue to get food and got killed for just being there.

Don’t believe the news outlets. Ignore speakers like Finkelstein or even politicians like Bernie Sanders who are shouting it from the rooftops.

What about the aid agencies? Look at what Save the Children, UNICEF and others are saying. They are neutral and aren’t politically motivated.

Enjoy your world where Israel can do no wrong, everyone is lying and the photos of starved children are fake.

Karma is a bitch.
