Facts:

  • At least 15,000 children have been killed since the war began in October 2023.
  • Many have died in airstrikes, building collapses, or stampedes at aid sites.
  • Thousands more have been injured, often with life-altering wounds, burns, or amputations.
  • Gaza is facing famine-like conditions.
  • Children are eating grass, leaves, or going days without food.
  • Severe malnutrition is widespread, especially in northern Gaza. Babies and toddlers are dying of hunger-related causes.
  • Nearly all children in Gaza are now considered to have signs of acute psychological trauma:
  • Nightmares
  • Bedwetting
  • Non-responsiveness (shutdown/dissociation)
  • Panic at loud sounds
  • Many have lost one or both parents, siblings, or entire families.
  • Most hospitals have been bombed or shut down.
  • Children can’t access basic care, vaccines, or treatment for chronic illnesses.
  • Wounded kids are operated on without anesthesia in some cases.
  • Over 1 million children have been displaced—many multiple times.
  • Families sleep in tents, rubble, or outdoors with no clean water or toilets.
  • Nearly all schools have been shut down, destroyed, or turned into shelters.
  • Many teachers and schoolchildren have been killed.
  • A whole generation risks growing up with no access to education or safety.
  • Children are drinking dirty water, leading to diarrheal diseases and infections.
  • Outbreaks of hepatitis, lice, and scabies are widespread.
  • Even in declared “safe zones” or aid areas, children have been shot, suffocated in stampedes, or killed by nearby strikes.
  • Some have died while queuing for water or food.

“There is no safe place left for children in Gaza. They are being killed, starved, maimed, and psychologically shattered. This is not a humanitarian crisis—this is a crisis of humanity.”
— Save the Children, July 2025

And Israel’s use of genocidal methods such as the starvation of a civilian population. There is no justification for Israel’s current actions

I don't agree with Israel withholding humanitarian aid (though I understand their reasons were once again linked to Hamas rather than a genocidal intention against innocent citizens of Gaza) so we agree on that point.

You have to admit @Everexpanding Hamas do what they can to kill Israeli people on a large scale, it's just they aren't very effective because of the Iron Dome.

I have already said numerous times I don’t support Hamas and think the events of October 7th were horrifying. I think the babies currently being either bombed or starved in Gaza had no involvement in the 7 th of October

Everexpanding · 20/07/2025 11:55

As to who owns the Occupied Territories, I don’t believe in God or fairy tales, so I would say the Palestinians who were living there

No of course they didn't, they are innocent victims of the war.

I think we can all agree on that. Where we differ on these threads is who people predominantly blame for the war. The people who triggered it or the people who responded with great might and now seek to destroy Hamas.

I've also said numerous times that I believe Israel's response has become disproportionate. I would be so happy if I heard the two sides had agreed a ceasefire. But I never forget who started it (by which I mean started this particular conflict).

Twiglets have you ever wondered why Hames exists?

Twiglets have you ever wondered why Hames exists?

They are terrorists who have done incredible harm - above all else to their own citizens.

There are reasons they exist but what is more important than why they exist is how to get rid of them, in my opinion.

Why is it whenever you see videos from actually inside Gaza, the people look very well fed with clean clothes? There is daily footage of markets with lots of food, including pilfered UN rations for sale and daily footage of huge Israei lorries full of food going in.
If babies are starving, it’s due to Hamas keeping all the food for themselves and their followers.

Footage from Gaza.

Footage from Gaza.

Horrific and inhumane. And to know it is man made not an act of weather or natural disaster is even worse.. These scenes are replicated all over the country.

Only children???

Do you think Israel’s current actions are likely to stop them or increase their recruitment/ birth something similar?
I have teenage boys if someone sniped them and let them bleed out and die alone on the street while blocking an ambulance or if someone dropped a bomb on our house and destroyed their limbs that I had bathed and cared for a million times when they were little, I cannot imagine I would not take up arms against those who had facilitated it . I’d like to think I wouldn’t but the rage I would feel would be all consuming

Use the rage you are imagining to imagine the rage Israel felt after 7/10.

I’m aware that Hamas and Israel are locked in a cycle of hatred & violence.

This war is only going to make that stronger, I agree. I think Israel may need to take further actions to defend their citizens from Palestinian militants after the war as apparently the Iron Dome wasn’t enough.

It won’t necessarily be popular. But it may be necessary given what you describe above.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 20/07/2025 12:23

We all know who the terrorists are now.

Are you suggesting Hamas have stopped being terrorists?

They haven’t. You may say the IDF have become terrorists too and you’re entitled to your opinion but they haven’t stopped Hamas being terrorists.

Absolutely a 35 day old infant died of starvation in Al Shofar hospital yesterday.

maybe Israel could actually stop persecuting Palestinians, take some ownership of the conditions that led to October 7th ( not that the killing of civilians is ever justified) they can't kill them all, or is that the plan??

Everexpanding · 20/07/2025 12:38

I highly doubt the plan is to “kill them all” I think that’s your rage talking again. The IDF could already have killed them all if that is what they wanted to do.

I believe the plan is to keep going with trying to destroy Hamas until Hamas either surrender or a ceasefire is agreed.

Twiglets have you ever wondered why Hames exists?

Do you really think Hamas only exists because Israel has done some cruel shit? Nothing to do with any pre-existing and deeply inculcated rejection of the very existence of Jews on the land that is their God-given right? Perhaps you consider them freedom fighters?

Hodgemollar · 20/07/2025 12:41

Stefanodad · 19/07/2025 20:04

Hamas is responsible for Hamas violence, Israeli Government is responsible for Israeli Government violence. End of.

100%

This “you made me do it so I carry no responsibility for my own actions” nonsense about the Israeli forces is nuts.

Everexpanding · 20/07/2025 12:42

Yes seeing people indiscriminately bombed in tents and a population deliberately starved fills me with sadness and rage,

I don’t support terrorism ever but I think it is foolish not to look at the reasons why terrorist groups begin and develop.

@Twiglets1 you never answered my question what are the reasons Hamas exists?

I don’t have to answer your questions @Everexpanding & as I’m not an expert on ME politics I am not the best person to answer that one.

I do think it’s better to look forward than back though. Hamas need to be replaced one way or another as they are doing the Gazans no favours as rulers. That’s putting it mildly.

I also think Israel needs a new government and expect them to get one after the war.
