Facts:

  • At least 15,000 children have been killed since the war began in October 2023.
  • Many have died in airstrikes, building collapses, or stampedes at aid sites.
  • Thousands more have been injured, often with life-altering wounds, burns, or amputations.
  • Gaza is facing famine-like conditions.
  • Children are eating grass, leaves, or going days without food.
  • Severe malnutrition is widespread, especially in northern Gaza. Babies and toddlers are dying of hunger-related causes.
  • Nearly all children in Gaza are now considered to have signs of acute psychological trauma:
  • Nightmares
  • Bedwetting
  • Non-responsiveness (shutdown/dissociation)
  • Panic at loud sounds
  • Many have lost one or both parents, siblings, or entire families.
  • Most hospitals have been bombed or shut down.
  • Children can’t access basic care, vaccines, or treatment for chronic illnesses.
  • Wounded kids are operated on without anesthesia in some cases.
  • Over 1 million children have been displaced—many multiple times.
  • Families sleep in tents, rubble, or outdoors with no clean water or toilets.
  • Nearly all schools have been shut down, destroyed, or turned into shelters.
  • Many teachers and schoolchildren have been killed.
  • A whole generation risks growing up with no access to education or safety.
  • Children are drinking dirty water, leading to diarrheal diseases and infections.
  • Outbreaks of hepatitis, lice, and scabies are widespread.
  • Even in declared “safe zones” or aid areas, children have been shot, suffocated in stampedes, or killed by nearby strikes.
  • Some have died while queuing for water or food.

“There is no safe place left for children in Gaza. They are being killed, starved, maimed, and psychologically shattered. This is not a humanitarian crisis—this is a crisis of humanity.”
— Save the Children, July 2025

It is horrendous.

It is absolutely a crime against humanity that civilians weren’t given the opportunity to be evacuated to places of safe refuge when the war started, like they are in every other conflict.

Seems the global community, and even supporters of the Palestinians, decided that it was in their interests for Hamas to use them as pawns and human sacrifices to achieve their military goals against Israel because there hasn’t been much in the way of calls and pressure to allow civilians to leave Gaza from what I have seen.

So it's everyone else's fault? Forcing people to leave their homeland is against international law isn't it? What is it called? Ethnic cleansing?

The Palestinians are victims of hamas as much as anyone else.

Martymcfly24 · 19/07/2025 17:58

Sobering OP . It's frightening to think of the long term affects this offensive has on the younger generation. The December 2024 survey showed 96% of children thought death was imminent and 49% wanted to die .

No evacuating people in a war is not ethnic cleansing. Yes the Palestinians are the victims of Hamas as many of us have been saying from the start.

Agree. And it’s not anti Semitic to say this. They have the blood of these children on their hands.

Heartbreaking beyond comprehension

Thank you. Wish I could speak to you all in real life. I feel like no one around me cares half as much as I do. The silence from everyone I know on the topic is deafening!

After reading the OP that's the best you can do? Zero empathy for Palestinian suffering.

Because the world has been bullied and brainwashed into believing that criticism of the Netanyahu’s government is tantamount to anti Semitism. It isn’t.

MissyB1 · 19/07/2025 18:59

And yet still many people minimise the deaths and the suffering, they deny its a genocide, deny there is any starvation, and even deny Israel is targeting civilians!! Israel's reputation is trashed for good now, but I hold the rest of the world responsible too, for allowing Israel to commit this horrific collective punishment.

Why do I have to write an essay for you? I was answering a pp's question.I said they were victims of Hamas - that is not 'zero empathy' is it? Noted that others appear not to apportion any blsme to Hsmas gor this situation which suggests more desire to attack Israel than actually caring about Pslestinians.

It is horrifying, and the silence and lack of sanctions make me feel that the world is such a horrible place, it is heartbreaking

I think the quantity of munitions being dropped on a civilian population by Israel also has something to do with it?? The blocking of aid also no??

Everexpanding · 19/07/2025 19:07

Both war crimes by the way

There was an awful story of a 15yo boy who was made quadriplegic and whose family had all be killed in an Israeli attack. He kept asking the hospital staff to let him die.

Everexpanding · 19/07/2025 19:21

The amount of children who have lost limbs is appalling , that poor boy

ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend · 19/07/2025 19:25

@Anonimummy Israel control the borders and dictate who leaves, even trying to get children out for medical intervention was a bureaucratic nightmare and at the whim of the Israeli government of which they have received much criticism.
Evacuating children from a war zone is not ethnic cleansing but Israel did not facilitate that and now what they are proposing is not evacuation from a conflict zones it is ethnic cleansing and being proposed as part of a ceasefire agreement so they are in effect displacing traumatised, injured, orphaned, ill, malnourished children once a ceasefire has been agreed so no longer an active conflict zone. So posters claiming it's an evacuation are liars.

@Wedonttalkaboutboris it is heartbreaking and I unfortunately have very little hope for these children's future. They have been completely failed it is shameful and all those who've had a part to play in this are a disgrace and yes I include Hamas in that.

Was there ever a proposal that Israel was asked to facilitate? Is it normal that the victim of an act of war (7 oct) would be expected to evacuate the civilian population of an aggressor?

I wouldn't judge him for that at all.

His quality of life is minimal in this situation.

It’s down to Hamas and no one else.

Once again, BBC headline is dozens of people, children, murdered as they queue up for aid, by Israeli forces.

The whole world is watching what is going on.

Supporters of the Israeli government need to know this will never be forgotten. These are the most appalling scenes imaginable and we can all see exactly what is going on here.

No but they controlled the border so no one else could (despite many countries working to get injured children out) are you being intentionally obtuse?

I'm referring to situations like this

https://www.npr.org/2024/07/30/nx-s1-5055896/israel-has-delayed-the-evacuation-of-sick-children-in-gaza

Israel has delayed the evacuation of sick children in Gaza

Israel agreed to allow 150 seriously ill and injured children in Gaza to leave for medical treatment. But after an attack blamed on Lebanese Hezbollah, Israel's prime minister suspended that approval.
