Israel is a country at war and I know many will have links or family in that country so I think it appropriate to wish them safety in the coming days.

I second the motion. Whenever Israel is attacked, be it by Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, Iran and anyone else, the targets are always civilian. But we don't hear a peep from do gooders.

globalwondering · 15/06/2025 05:00

Do you wish safety to the civilians or people who have links/families in the countries they are at war with as well?

Israel attacked Iran first, killing dozens of civilians.

Israel attacked legitimate military targets. And it only did so to stop the Iranian threat. Not to mention that arguably Iran attacked first via its proxies.

mids2019 · 15/06/2025 05:15

Iran does not have the capability to hit Israel accurately hence the civilian casualties.

"Reuters also reported that nearly 80 Iranian civilians were killed in Israeli strikes on apartment blocks".

I find it interesting that people thought genocide in Gaza was justified after October 7th, but with Iran's retaliation after Israel attacked it is not and we have to side wih a party that started another war?

Igotjelly · 15/06/2025 06:42

I don’t agree with what Netanyahu is doing in Gaza and I certainly don’t support the regime in Iran but goodness I just want to convey my thoughts to those in both countries dealing with the ongoing strike. It must be terrifying and please know that whatever many of us think about your leadership we absolutely don’t wish this on you. Hoping you all stay as safe and well as you can during this awful time. ❤️

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 15/06/2025 07:04

I have family in Israel and I echo what you say OP, but would extend my good wishes to the civilians in Iran affected. I am no fan of Netanyahu but I understand why Israel has struck Iranian nuclear sites and related infrastructure and even individual figures. But civilian deaths are tragic.

Figcherry · 15/06/2025 07:30

I feel for all civilians in both countries.

As always it’s men who wage war.

This.

Israel has constant attacks from various terrorist groups all proxies of Iran. Of course it should defend itself.

How long do.you think Iran has been funding the terrorist organisations that have been attacking Israel for years. This didn't 'start' a few days ago. 😕

Oh dear.

How can you show you know nothing of the funding of proxy attacks by Iran for years without actually saying so. 🤔

Nowayyousure · 15/06/2025 07:47

Yes it's awful and the settlers must be stopped.

How many Palestinian children had been killed and people oppressed in their own homes before October 7th? It didn't 'start' last year.

I don't think anyone is saying you have to do anything.

missdeamenor · 15/06/2025 08:11

How does Israel cope with constant war? It's surrounded by hate and has known nothing but terror and war since its inception. Not much of a 'promised land': I just don't know how they survive.

myplace · 15/06/2025 08:16

I would generally massively sympathise with Israel, standing her ground surrounded by nations wanting to eradicate her. And I do hope for the safety of Israelis today.

However, Israel is a democracy and her civilians have chosen this response.

Today I feel for those living in undemocratic countries who must feel powerless in the face of the actions of their leaders. Particularly women and children. And I hope this opportunity for regime change is grasped and the oppression ends.

I've never been but I know people moving there now and everyone I know who has been says is a wonderful place. Dynamic, energetic. Survival is the best response to hatred.

And yet they do. The people of Israel live.

I am actually shocked that you say you have never been to Israel considering how much you defend its actions, I have been there, beautiful country, extremely selective about who it wants to come there even to visit and that's putting it politely

Their survival might have something to do with the billions of dollars they spend annually on armaments, their very effective and very well trained armed forces, a series of belligerent governments who are not afraid to deploy them and an extremely effective intelligence service. Add to that the general compliance of the west, who will give them almost free rein and you have the reasons for their survival.
