Heartbreaking news report from Gaza - Dr receives bodies of her children

Many of you will already have read about this. Paediatric specialist Dr Alaa al-Najjar was on duty when the bodies of nine of her 10 children were received by her in the hospital, after a strike in Khan Younis hit her home.

This report just stopped me in my tracks. I don't know what to say beyond this. I cannot stop thinking about this poor woman tonight.

This mother’s suffering was making me think of the difficulties mothers in Gaza have faced in pregnancy, delivery and then feeding and keeping their children safe.

It’s appalling that on mumsnet there are posters who appear to minimise a mother’s suffering and inappropriately use this thread.

They are best ignored.

Martymcfly24 · 07/06/2025 23:20

I didn't realize that the doctor had already lost the twin of the youngest baby Sidra at 3 months due to an infection and lack of medication.

The pain of that woman must be unbearable.

Agree

On the theme of motherhood in Gaza:

“With access to basic healthcare now very difficult, most of what the UN estimates are 55,000 pregnant women in Gaza are not able to get regular pre-natal checks.

"The psychological state of the women at the point of childbirth is heartbreaking, may God help them," says Dr Ahmad al-Farra, a head of paediatric and maternity care at Nasser hospital.

"They are fully aware that their unborn babies are not being properly monitored and they themselves did not receive adequate nutrition, so they expect their babies to suffer from low birth weight or other complications. That's the first concern."

"The second is that after giving birth, they are deeply worried about how they will manage to breastfeed or even secure formula, especially with the ongoing lack of food. Both options are equally difficult."

The poor baby Siwar whose picture also shocked the world as she was so malnourished did not have access to the correct formula

The deaths are not only direct from IDF bombing but indirect from malnutrition. Babies will be so vulnerable and susceptible to infection.

@Stripes56 I saw one of the items on the Freedom Flotilla was women's sanitary items. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be post birth or with a heavy period and no access to sanitary products and living in a crowded tent and limited washing facilities.

I know it sounds minor in the face of starvation but it is just another indignity heaped on women.

Stripes56 · 07/06/2025 23:46

@Martymcfly24
Agree
One of the concerns about the GHF aid distribution is not only that they are not experts in doing this - and are not providing the right kind of aid- including sanitary products. There are NGOs with expertise in this - that also include provision of psychological and safeguarding support for vulnerable children and women.

I think the poster is saying despicable ludicrous things to elicit an angry response, likely to try and get people thrown off the boards or simply to cause upset - who knows.

You can accuse me of whatever you like. I am not Israeli or Jewish, I have no skin in this war or reason to deflect.

I only am going on the research I have done on thie region going back to the Ottoman Empire and Mark Twain’s visit in the mid 1800s, together with the well documented evidence of the Arab then Palestinian cause being to annihilate Israel and then the more recent (over the last 40 years) well documented terrorist attacks and video evidence of the terrorist ideology of the Palestinians, and of course seeing the live streamed atrocities of Oct 7th. Seeing the global outpouring of ant semitism and hate towards a tiny (and only) Jewish State which had experienced the kind of attack, that would have made Western countries go full on attack mode, also made me research the history of the persecution of Jewish people.

That was together with having the logic to conclude that this war was started deliberately, not to Free Palestine and the Palestinians, but to try to destroy Israel with propaganda and emotion fuelled SM clips, because it could never be won with military force as evidenced by the 9 wars waged against Israel since 1948.

Therein lies my rationale to not believe anything without verified evidence (which doesn’t include hearsay and 2nd or 3rd hand reports), and yes, because I have no inherent bias to Israel or the Jewish people,

I take the side of a democratic country which has given a lot to the world, over a terrorist enclave who’s people (civilians too) carried out the kind of atrocities that they did on Oct 7th and celebrated it, including parading coffins with dead babies in labelled as ‘prisoners of war’ in a sick circus with an gigantic artistic backdrop that must have taken ages to do while people were fleeing for their lives during an apparent genocide.

I don’t deny civilians have been killed, there has never been a war where they haven’t, but the safety of civilians should have been thought about before starting one, especially with parents if they were warned to evacuate and were well aware of the bombing!

Maybe if Hamas had let civilians in the tunnels the IDF would have been prevented from blowing all the tunnels up because they don’t target civilians. Hamas missed that didn’t they?

Still no video footage of the IDF targeting children. There were so many reports that there must be some?

Have you got anything to say that refutes my posts?

How is it ‘despicable’ to want verified facts.

It’s language like that which fuels this terrorist propaganda.

Honestly I thought that article you first linked has been debunked: this was discussed on here already: that these photos were not true and extremely distressing for the victim family.

The New York Times viewed photographs of one woman’s corpse that emergency responders discovered in the rubble of a besieged kibbutz with dozens of nails driven into her thighs and groin. The Times also viewed a video, provided by the Israeli military, showing two dead Israeli soldiers at a base near Gaza who appeared to have been shot directly in their vaginas. Yinon Rivlin, a member of the rave’s production team who lost two brothers in the attacks, said that after hiding from the killers, he emerged from a ditch and made his way to the parking area, east of the party, along Route 232, looking for survivors.
Near the highway, he said, he found the body of a young woman, on her stomach, no pants or underwear, legs spread apart. He said her vagina area appeared to have been sliced open, “as if someone tore her apart.”

Exactly what it was created for. Well done.

I think this is very unfair. This woman has lost several children and her husband...no doubt other friends and relatives, working in incredibly difficult circumstances and living in difficult conditions.
Her brother lives and works in Ireland where he is a respected medical professional. He has spoken about this awful tragedy on Irish media - possibly even more. He has colleagues who knew about his family back in Gaza before this happened.
Are we supposed to believe that over the years he magicked up this sister and her children? In case he ever needed to then make them die in an Israeli air raid?
What about the British doctor who worked alongside her? They were in on it too?

can you explain please what you mean by "Exactly what it was created for" . What's it? That it is all made up?

@RandomWordsThrownTogether
Thank you for the link. I hope Adam gets the support he needs.
On latest Rest is Politics UK podcast- someone asked what we can do to help people in Gaza. Alistair Campbell referred to a quote made by Jucinda Ardern to Donald Trump after the Christchurch massacre about how he might be able help. She told him to be kind to his Muslim communities.

It made me think about how much Muslims around the world must have been suffering too seeing members of their community being slaughtered. It is also something that is so difficult to talk about openly.

And the small number of Christians there who are important communities too. Which reminds me, Christian buildings are bombed too..

How do you think the Jewish community felt around the world after Oct 7th, the Israeli community feel about, and are still having to, sending their sons and daughters, husbands and wives into a dirty war, the world wide Jewish community feel about marches in support of Hamas, tearing down of hostage posters, students being intimidated at University, rampant anti-semitism and threats to their lives, including being gunned down and set on fire with Molotov cocktails, btw?

Many Israelis are protesting. Thousands have gathered to near the Gaza border after walking from Tel Aviv.
Israelis hold a weekly vigil holding pictures of children killed since the ceasefire.
Israelis held banners saying "there is no pride in genocide" in the pride parade.
Israelis protect people from attacks and displacement in the West Bank often in great danger to themselves.
Jews across the world have spoken out and formed associations for peace.
Plenty of Jews feel like many on this thread.

I saw an interview with a volunteer medic...he said he has seen his and women with severe UTIs because there is no sanitary protection. Women are using rags, but the water to wash them in is contaminated, so chronic UTIs emerge. They no longer have the correct antibiotics so some women have died.
I actually cannot imagine the pain.

Also Israel is not strictly democratic in the same way that Northern Ireland and South Africa were not: a sizeable amount of its population cannot vote. That's not democracy.

A lot of people didn’t and still don’t believe these accounts, that Palestinians who they may accept took babies, children and the elderly hostage (as well as bodies/heads of people they murdered) burned whole families alive, threw grenades and went on shooting rampages on a music festival because ‘oppression’ could not possibly be capable of rape and horrific sexual torture.

Thankfully the Israelis believe in dignity for the dead and have not plastered pictures and videos of the dead all over SM, but I did see the charred body of a young woman (from how she was dressed), legs spread apart in rigid morris with nails in her vagina. It fucked me up for days I have to say as well as seeing the Thai man having his head hacked off with a garden hoe to cries of Allahu Akbar, Shani Louk’s body paraded in the pick up truck and the woman in just her underwear dragged through the streets on the back of a motorbike as if it was totally normal and something to celebrate.

I also read an account of a young woman being gang raped, her breast being sliced off and her rapists playing with it in front of her before she was shot in the head while still being raped. I mean you couldn’t make that up.

BUT still people, who may consider themselves reasonably intelligent want to believe everything that comes out of these human abominations mouths and repeat it as fact.

Some on here even believe the IDF are more evil and more of a risk than those who carried out those atrocities on Oct 7th.

It beggars belief.

I’ve also noticed accounts from Palestinians which almost mirror the atrocities committed on Oct 7th oddly enough. Classic DARVO which few have picked up.

Who can’t vote in Israel?

Or are you including Palestinian Territories as part of Israel?

So you think that is Israeli land, and Israel are not an occupying force?

Why haven’t you told them already?

They will report what they’ve been told, they have to.

I don’t believe any doctors have lied. You’d hope not.

Although seeing as there is evidence that Hamas embed in hospitals and pose as medical staff, and also staff will be compromised with threat of death for collaboration with the enemy, that is open to speculation.

That is awful.

Maybe they should be advised to use the water the Palestinians all over SM everyday are using for washing their clothes as they all look extremely clean, almost like they’re wearing new clothes, despite living in a genocide. Maybe they boil water to wash clothes?

Please have a look yourself. Don’t take my word for it.

So I'll answer, even though you rarely provide any response to questions out directly to you or rebuttals. But it's just a forum and you don't have to.

Many Palestinians living in Jerusalem do not have the vote because they do not have Israeli citizenship.

On the West Bank. Israel have occupied since 1968 I think? Israel governs this militarily and has stated it's not going to return it. Palestinians are afforded no self determination whatsoever as yes, you're correct it's occupied. However Israelis who live in the West Bank can vote in Israeli elections, so they have a direct impact on it. They can have representatives that favour them and make policy decisions for them etc. they can lobby. the majority population has none. Even in occupation, denying a population capacity to self determination and decision making is not democracy (see Northern Ireland). You can disagree with occupation but still exercise your political right to represent the needs of your people including decisions regarding self determination and political activism for that.

Finally Israeli citizens who are Jewish are subject to different laws and entitlements than non Jewish Israeli citizens. That's not democracy.

Funny, I think they look pretty grubby and disheveled.
Boiling water is very difficult because there is no fuel. Remember the blockade? That's where the problem lies. You can't kill the bacteria.
