Many of you will already have read about this. Paediatric specialist Dr Alaa al-Najjar was on duty when the bodies of nine of her 10 children were received by her in the hospital, after a strike in Khan Younis hit her home.

This report just stopped me in my tracks. I don't know what to say beyond this. I cannot stop thinking about this poor woman tonight.

er children killed by a strike in Khan Younis. Guardian link

This is sadly exactly what they are trying to do. Eradication of a whole nation , they say it’s to destroy hamas but the reality is the goal is to wipe out everyone to have an empty land they can walk straight into. Hamas terrorist, man, woman , child , baby - any living human is the target now.

and do you not think that Hammas would do exactly that to Israel if they had half the chance?

Does the genocidal language by the perpetrators make it genocide?

I think that genocidal language combined with actions consistent with genocide might. But not just language. The point about genocidal language from people in the government with power over the war is that it can demonstrate intent which then needs to be considered in context.

I also can't stop thinking about this poor woman.

The level of Israel's response to the October attack has been utterly disproportionate and unjustifiable. Roughly a third of deaths have been children. There has been no effort to mitigate collateral damage. Israel has blocked food and basic resources being distributed to civilians, targeted medics (and their families) and killed journalists. They've conducted a catalogue of war crimes while we watch our spineless politicians do nothing about it.

When Gazans were asked why they didn't evacuate this latest raid they pointed out they had nowhere to run to, roughly 80% of the land is under attack and resources are generally scarce. Who would leave their house to live in a tent that could also be bombed, or risk getting killed en route?

I feel also so very sad for that poor boy, when (if) he wakes up he will have to learn of the loss of all of his siblings.

Regarding your statement about one third of deaths being children I read an article from doctors today that stated the greatest number of deaths of children are in the 6-12 category.
Why ? because the smaller ones can be picked up by adults and the older ones can run faster so this age group are killed the most by airstrikes and gun fire
I have two in this age group asleep in their beds and this just breaks my heart.

It's utterly heart breaking.

Is that therefore somehow a justification?

bibliotek · 26/05/2025 00:08

How would any of us we begin to fathom Alaa Al-Najjar’s labour of love in this life, mothering 10 children while being a paediatrician in Gaza?

Who in this world can emphasise with her loss, as 9 of her children’s burnt bodies - the youngest just 6 months old - are pulled from her bombed home, while she was at work trying to save the lives of other people kids harmed by the IDF?

It is soul destroying to know as human race that we allow this harm to come to children.

The harm of Palestinian children by the current Israeli government is absolutely intentional. This is no democratic utopia in the Middle East, it’s a far right croniedom currently permitting fascism.

I pray that Netenyahu is convicted and Trump is impeached, and candidates with a working moral compass replaces them - to work towards peace.

I hope when they try to sleep at night, anyone in Hamas or the IDF/Israeli government - or anyone justifying these deaths - see the faces of the children they’ve killed. It’s a complete betrayal to innocence.

1/3 deaths being children and zero Hamas fighters .... 👍

What and who at this stage do the Israeli Government consider to be Hamas?
Is there an exhaustive list of individuals?
Because if Hamas are/were the government - does it mean everyone in government?
Does it include all of their relatives and offspring, just in case?
Where does it stop?

Yes , if they had the chance they would. Undoubtedly. It’s wrong whichever side it comes from. All I see yet again like all conflicts and wars is powerful groups of men fighting each other then killing innocent men women and children.

I think sadly it’s at the point of judging who is a future risk of being a part of Hamas and so they are eradicating all. As another poster said though given the chance and the upper hand with finance and military power would Hamas do the same - yes I think they would. Both regimes are brutal.

Just no words, it is incomprehensible.

It’s genocide.

Agree.

No, people dying doesn't equate to genocide. History and context show that this is genocide.

This.

All of this.

I have no words. Only tears.

I normally avoid these discussions but this is just..... heartbreaking

The very fact that one can say plainly they’re killing kids just in case they become a security risk is ethical terror. Where does that that begin and end for society?

Do we start start killing kids whose parents are murderers? Criminals? just in case they pose a risk?

Israel need to release Palestinian political prisoners who have a hope of usurping Hamas.

Israel has said they will consider everyone in the north of Gaza as Hamas. They continue to say this to push people to evacuate and then kill those who don't evacuate calling them Hamas.

It's a war move that has been used in other forms of genocide. Labelling everyone as a "terrorist".

Municipal · 26/05/2025 11:20

It is a Genocide!

bibliotek · 26/05/2025 11:40

I know that it’s so helpless making.
I woke up this morning and saw more horrors.

Please - I know it feels helpless, but do something. An action. Many have no parents to love them and speak up for them.

Email your MP, donate to medical aid for Palestine, sign petitions, get out and demonstrate, divert your spending.
Just do more than nothing.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/05/2025 11:48

It will end when Israel has killed every Palestinian child along with all the adults.

It's genocide.

sundaybloodysunday12 · 26/05/2025 11:58

Why does Israel even need a bigger country? Just live in peace ffs. I just can’t understand how things get to this point. It’s just madness. So, so utterly pointless.

That poor woman. Those poor kids.

It has echoes of the genocide in Cambodia, where the Khmer Rouge murdered the children, however young, of the people they condemned. Just in case.

???

What a strange thing to say. If 1/3 are children then there are 2/3 of deaths not children some of which are most definitely Hamas.

Doesn't take anything away from the horror of the dead children.

Who knows? Best kill these 9 kids now so we never find out. They look a bit dodgy to me. And all the other kids too. Why not just kill them all so we don't have to go to the trouble or expense of figuring out who the real threats are. Good idea. Kill them all, problem solved. It's not genocide of course because its obviously self defence, defence against a potential intangible future threat.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/05/2025 18:36

Biscuitsformeandyou · 26/05/2025 18:20

No idea. Do you know?

I know that 9 children were murdered. They were no threat to anyone. The IDF murdered them to make Israel safer. I know, it was stupid of me to even assume a terrorist died in this attack.😳🤦‍♀️

Why?
How does the death of 9 Palestinian children in Gaza make Israel safer?
