To all the people that have ties to Gaza, is there any group there that is more moderate that might form a government.

Or is it just Hamas or the PLJ from elsewhere? Is there no one moderate?

The obvious answer would be the Palestinian Authority, but they lost what by all accounts was a free and fair election to Hamas in Gaza and Hamas haven't let go since.

In short no there isn't.

There are groups more extreme than Hamas though for example the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Fatah was less extreme but incredibly corrupt which lost them support.

@Afterrain

"Seemingly, Egypt and Jordan get aid , trade and security USA. He will probably threaten to cut off according to a Professor on the BBC. He was very interesting."

Well Iran would love that to happen and use it to create instability in what are currently stable countries (Jordan and Egypt).

Thanks for your reply.

It feels hopeless for them when only terrorist groups cone forward to run gaza. That will never end well. More of the same misery.

Good question

Seemingly, Egypt and Jordan get aid , trade and security USA. He will probably threaten to cut off according to a Professor on the BBC. He was very interesting.

Well this is the problem with him cutting off foreign aid (I know military aid to Egypt was exempt). Jordan has already had aid workers who have had to stop working since the freeze. Why would anyone take a promise from him to reinstate and then continue aid seriously? That's a very big risk to take in return for accepting huge numbers of refugees.

Sprinklepartyfun · 05/02/2025 10:55

It would be great if a moderate group could come forward, hold power and actually make proper progress.

But it's going to be difficult in a population where literally everyone has close family or friend killed in the war, where most will have had close family or friends killed in the previous wars. A population where they have grown up with Israel controlling their every mood, even deciding what shape pasta is legal for them and whether as kids they were allowed crayons. People who can't leave for fear they won't be allowed back. People who knows they could be shot in the head at any time, even in 'peace' as Israel exercises their 'right' to 'mow the grass'.

Organisations like Hamas have literally been funded by Israel to destabilise, and make peace less likely.

So you are up against people, not unreasonably angry, fearful and distrustful, and where peaceful organisations are undermined by Israel because they are too much of a threat.

So you get in power, as a peaceful organisation, what then? You build an airport, Israel destroyed it like they did last time. You build a port, Israel destroyed it like they did last time. You build hospitals. Israel destroys them.

I'd much rather peaceful resistance, but it's a big ask of the people, and with the current Israeli and US government, I don't think it would be listened to any more.

Then what, USA goes ahead with it's plans to forcibly remove people. Do you keep up the peaceful resistance then? Would you?

Well look at it from the Palestinian civilian perspective- what gets your vote or support:

A) You are the victims here (supported by the left in the West), you've been treated terribly and we [insert new terrorist organisation] are going to get your dignity back by fighting the oppressors [insert Israel and the West] or

B) The place is bombed to hell, fighting wars only leads to more death and destruction so we are going to start the arduous and slow process of rebuilding into a stable, non violent and one day prosperous nation .

Hamas has never been a peaceful group. Have you not read their Charter?

it needs something radical to happen as they cannot exist along side one another that is clear...the violence will never end as is...what neighbouring counties would take them all as none have been keen up to now

Well they tried that out in Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait and Libya and it didn't work out too well for the hosts.

Literally no one in the Middle East wants to repeat that mistake and see the Palestinians as an angry destabilising influence on their host countries.

TokyoSushi · 05/02/2025 11:16

Bonkers. How though? Where would they go, would they even go? You can't just say 'off you go now, we're going to turn this into some sort of US owned Dubai type of place.'

Never gonna happen.

So we ethnically cleanse one of them? Is that how we sort out wars nowadays?

Exactly....no one will take them as too many issues

marshmallowmix · 05/02/2025 11:29

I never said that @EasterIssland but the as is does not work....for either of them it is a mess...and has been so for decades unless some stable non terrorist govt can takeover Palestine but does that exist?

swingandtrampoline · 05/02/2025 11:31

Land grabbing at best, ethnic cleaning at worst and genocide in between. It makes me sick. His son in law openly talked about this a few years ago about development plans on the strip so this was all planned all along and now set in motion. Anyone who thinks this is for Gaza for Palestinian people "to live in peace without dying"are naive since the majority of US and partly UK tax bullets, bombs, spy have obliterated these---- people into millions of pieces isn't going magically going to take over to "help them" to rebuild brand new condos, hospitals and nightlife for them. Why and how do you think Trump came back into power? Overall, how anyone can stomach holidaying on a land where babies, children were blown up and recently a 2yo shot on the head by a sniper 200 times so he wouldn't miss can sunbathe and gamble and holiday makes my skin crawl thinking about it.

That is what you were proposing.

Do you think it would be reasonable for all the Israelis to go elsewhere or is it only a proposal for Palestinians?

ScienceDragon · 05/02/2025 11:32

Just worth noting - the Gaza land grab brings the total area of the territory Trump has laid claim to so far to 12.15 million km² . This area is is bigger than the entire United States (9.8 million km²). The US military is going to have to significantly increase its recruitment if Trump wants to obtain and hold all of that.🙄

I didn't say that they were/are. It's entirely irrelevant to my post.

And yes, I have read their original charter and their more recent one.
