It does rather smack of the adult coming in and taking the toy away as neither of the children can play nicely with it.
If he gives it a go, I expect it will be his Vietnam.

American troops and American deaths.

@Peony15

"Netanyahu looked pleased as punch, he was literally over the moon by whatever was being suggested next to him, could barely contain his excitement.
Will never forget his smug smile."

Actually I read his expression as being as shocked as everyone else by what Trump said. And it wasn't so much a smile but more a case of "wow this is bat shit crazy".

He even backed this up by politely describing Trump's announcement as a "different idea". And it really isn't in Israel's interest either for the US to "own" Gaza either.

By a similar example Hilary Clinton smiled when Trump announced renaming the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America" - did you interpret her smile as "being over the moon" about this or more a case of "wow this is batshit crazy"

CreationNat1on · 05/02/2025 08:30

He is insane, being influenced by another insane drug addled spoilt brat.

I am convinced he’s a psychopath anyway but now has dementia overlaying it.

I think he's a psychopath too - but I don't think he has dementia. He's in full cognitive state. He knows EXACTLY what he's doing. It's frightening because this time round he's made sure to surround himself with people that won't hold him back - and because this time he knows he doesn't have an election to win again in 4 years time, so we are truly seeing his delusional mind at work.

Two completely different takes on the same piece. Shows how are existing lens sees things. I personally think he wasn't sure how this could possibly work.

It’s hard to know if he’s trying to be funny, serious or just as mad as a box of frogs, given his stated objectives for Greenland, the Panama Canal and Canada, the latter of the three seems most likely

Sinkintotheswamp · 05/02/2025 08:35

He's probably planing a Casino. The middle east version of Atlantic City.

True. He does make lots of sweeping statements.

Also I can't imagine that the Jordanians (which is pretty much an oasis of stability in a sea of chaos) will be that keen on taking in a million Palestinian refugees on the basis that the last time they offered such kindness and compassion to the Palestinian refugees they repaid it by attempting a coup, depose the King and trying to take over the country.

Equally I can't see the Egyptians being keen either on the basis that previously the Palestinian backed terrorists were using Gaza as a base from which to launch terrorist attacks against the Egyptian military in Northern Sinai. This is the reason Egypt sealed the border to Gaza.

I can't imagine any nation keen or equipped to take 2 million traumatised homeless people no matter who they are. Trump doesn't do detail though.

I think trumps strategy is say something completely ridiculous and unworkable get everyone in a flap about it and then do something not so extreme but unpalatable if he had suggested it initially.

You're right and it's interesting how there can be two (or three including yours) different takes on the same video clip.

I also agree with you that Netanyahu was also thinking "and exactly could this possibly work".

But what I also find interesting is why there are two different takes on the Netanyahu video clip but that's not the case for the Hilary Clinton reaction. And why is this?

I haven't see the Netanyahu clip but the Clinton clip she giggled not just smiled, it was quite obvious

edited to add Clinton doesn't have an arrest warrant out against her for crimes against humanity so maybe she is not viewed as sinister as Netanyahu

The ancestry of Palestinians is complex and deeply rooted in the history of the region. Many Palestinians today are descendants of the various peoples who have lived in the land for thousands of years, including ancient Canaanites, Hebrews, Philistines, Arabs, and others.

During the time of Christ, some Jewish communities in the region converted to Christianity. With the spread of Islam in the 7th century, many people, including both Christians and Jews, converted to Islam, while others remained Christian or Jewish. Over time, cultural, religious, and linguistic influences shaped the Palestinian identity as we know it today.

This long and layered history reflects how identities in the region have evolved rather than being tied to a single origin. Many modern Palestinians have Jewish, Christian, and Arab ancestry, showing the deep interconnectedness of the people of the land.

OchaLove · 05/02/2025 08:49

Chuchoter · 05/02/2025 08:18

Trump will restore peace. The Palestinians can leave and settle in Arab countries and the Gaza Strip can be restored to its former glory.

Exciting times lay ahead with the huge investment potential in real estate development.

Such a pretty narration for 'ethnic cleansing'

I agree with this.

He's stirring things up. Gaza needs to have a moderate leader. Hamas cannot stay, maybe he's attempting to force moderates to come forward with a solution from Gaza. More of Hamas in charge is not a workable solution.

It's a shame those deep interconnectedness of people cannot come together for the best future for all then. Your take feels very romanticised and through rise tinted glasses meanwhile conflict reigns after a huge mass terrorist attack on other descendents of the region.

Perhaps the USA would like to take the displaced Palestinians in!

Chuchoter · 05/02/2025 08:23

Palestine doesn't exist, there was never such a country, the population of the West Bank and the Gaza strip is ethnically, linguistically and culturally indistinguishable from the rest of the Arabs in the region.

You support ethnic cleaning ?

kirinm · 05/02/2025 09:00

@Atangledweb precisely who from any Arab state is going to see this as anything but a massive threat to the region?

At least nobody can pretend this wasn't what Israeli government wanted the whole time.

Yes, Trump's plan of "I believe we can resettle, and I believe we can do it in areas where the leaders currently say no." is completely delusional for many reasons. Mainly they don't want to go, and other countries don't want to take them. Would Trump agree to America taking that many people from a neighbouring country if some other leader just suggested it??

Not to mention "Everybody I've spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land"

He really has no grip on reality.

Parker231 · 05/02/2025 09:06

What’s very weird is that the majority in America voted for him as their President! He’s deranged and a dangerous lunatic!
