Seeing posts openly praising ethnic cleansing on this site is very troubling.

Regarding Netanyahu's reaction, he's had so much work done and wears such heavy make up it's hard to tell what his face is doing any more. And don't get me started on his purple rinse.

Lyn348 · 05/02/2025 09:11

Where doesn't Trump want to take over? Really he just needs to concentrate on his own country - 43 million living in poverty, 15 million living in deep poverty (2023). But just like Putin those sorts of details don't interest him, he's just another crazy, narcissistic megalomaniac who wants to rule the whole fucking world.

maudelovesharold · 05/02/2025 09:11

The phrases ‘hoist by his own petard’ and ‘give him enough rope…’ spring to mind. This ‘idea’ won’t come to anything. And if he tries to put any of his mad notions into practice, he’ll eventually get his come-uppance. That’s what I’m hanging on to, anyway….

I don't think he even really cares about ruling the world. He always seems to be on the take for his business interests after a presidency finishes.

@Atangledweb precisely who from any Arab state is going to see this as anything but a massive threat to the region?

At least nobody can pretend this wasn't what Israeli government wanted the whole time.

I think everyone's jaw dropped listening to his announcements. A number of countries have already made their thoughts clear.

I don't agree this was the plan from the start though. There was a different government in America at the start of the conflict.

The aim to eradicate Hamas is extremely hard due to the guerilla type warfare they fight. It's not like Ukraine where men fight men on the battlefiel. Hamas take their combat gear off (unless ceasefire and hostage release) and fight amongst their people. I think most agree they don't care about innocent casualties. It's similar to terrorists in Afghanistan.

Does anyone know what the US reaction has been to all of Trumps plans?
I find it most shocking to that the US seems to have become a dictatorship overnight and no one seems to care. Many people who voted for Trump wanted exactly this, but many others presumably thought that laws and policies would be changed in the usual way - by voting in Congress, so his most insane plans would ever be implemented. Now it seems he can just declare an emergency and do whatever he likes. Surely even the republican party don't want this?

Mischance · 05/02/2025 09:16

He has somewhat missed the point that the whole Palestinian situation was caused by western interference, and now he wants to interfere some more.

Parker231 · 05/02/2025 09:06

What’s very weird is that the majority in America voted for him as their President! He’s deranged and a dangerous lunatic!

He was running on 'America First' slogan but if you would follow the money (financial backers of his campaign) it was obvious who/what he would prioritize. On the other hand, Democrats did a really bad job for the last 4 years, they were even going with visibly demented Biden as their candidate until they couldn't. Regular US citizen doesn't pay that much attention to Middle East but they don't want to get involved in more wars in Middle East or elsewhere. Trump tricked people with the narrative that he would stop wars. Basically, people were tricked but the signs were obvious unless you only watch mainstream media.

Does that mean that Palestinians will become American citizens?

Trump will restore peace. The Palestinians can leave and settle in Arab countries and the Gaza Strip can be restored to its former glory.

Exciting times lay ahead with the huge investment potential in real estate development.

Oh, I thought you were being ironic!

It won't happen. Its another of his (many) over the top announcements

Does that mean that Palestinians will become American citizens?

Haha don't be silly. He'll get rid of them first. Don't worry about where to, I'm sure he's thought it through. His current plan is "countries that have previously said no" so I'm sure it will be fine.

kirinm · 05/02/2025 09:21

@Atangledweb not americas plan, no. Most people aren't as insane as he is.

This is the Israeli government dream come true.

And what reparations to Israelis for regular terrorism culminating in 7 October? You see where your German analogy falls down?

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/hamas-official-says-trumps-remarks-about-taking-over-gaza-are-could-ignite-2025-02-05/

Foes and allies expected to be strongly against it "Trump can expect allies and foes alike to strongly oppose any U.S. takeover of Gaza, and his proposal raises questions whether Middle East power Saudi Arabia would be willing to join a renewed U.S.-brokered push for a historic normalization of relations with U.S. ally Israel."

I was about to comment on another thread about Trump's latest outing and it just....vanished?!!!!

Jacquette · 05/02/2025 09:28

That it is a distraction from what Elon is doing atm makes sense. But nothing is going to distract people if their pensions and welfare moneys and tax returns don’t arrive in their bank account.

Atangledweb · 05/02/2025 09:30

I personally think he makes a mad announcement then let's it settle and then people start to look at better alternatives. Maybe he is trying to get someone from Palestinian, any moderates, (are there any) to come up with something workable. Who knows the working of his mind. Hamas cannot stay though.

However, all his other mad things don't happen, Greenland, announcement that naturally cane to nothing.

This is certainly a novel suggestion and quite a curved ball, however, I do think the whole situation does need to be rethought. I am not a fan of Trump but maybe the situation needs someone to suggest something new that at least get people thinking beyond the current parameters. The loss of life is appalling, and at least the focus is on how to bring peace, DT has many off the wall ideas but maybe his starting point has a chance who knows.

A majority, not the majority. His vote was just less than 50% and only marginally more than Harris's. I.e. nearly as many voted against him as for him & are strongly opposed to him.

LetThereBeLove · 05/02/2025 09:32

I don't think for one moment that the Israeli government wants America in Gaza which is what Trump proposes (a riviera with his casinos)

When did Iran or all the other extremists & terrorists become part of the West?

He is a narcissist who can't see any contradictions in his own views.

He is against immigration, he doesn't want people from other countries in America, yet he thinks it is fine to send 2 million Palestinians, to other countries and expects everyone involved will agree.

He is deranged.

I think you’re giving Trump way too much credit there….
