The brutal truth of the war in Gaza.

"To find safety from Gaza, you need first to become the victim of a catastrophic injury and then be lucky enough to be identified, selected and extracted.
That's one of the many brutal truths from this long war."

This article is certainly an eye opening read on the failures of those governments who support Israel in their campaign of cruelty. It's very rare for Israel to allow even injured children with multiple limb amputations, to leave Gaza for treatment. I have read previously that despite all the difficult work to organise an evacuation.. in the last minute Israel will just refuse it with no explanation given.

It isn't enough that they torture and murder health care staff, they bomb hospitals, the routinely block medical aid, they constantly bomb residential blocks and safe zones. After all of that only a select few are given permission to leave this living nightmare.

How the lives of the few child amputees allowed to leave Gaza are being rebuilt elsewhere

Sky News' US correspondent Mark Stone has followed the stories of some of the few Palestinians who have left Gaza for medical care.

Absolutely, great book with references and evidence, here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Palestine-Four-Thousand-Year-History/dp/1786992728

Let's thank the people who over the last 15 months kept saying that there is no such this as a Country called Palestine or Palestinians. They've spurred millions of ordinary people around the World to educate themselves on evidenced history. Countering that propaganda has elevated the Palestinian cause 100 fold. Kind of like an own goal......

Absolutely. The only positive of this "war" is that millions have finally learnt of the plight of the Palestinians throughout the decades.
On a personal note, I have had my beliefs in western governments totally crushed (except Spain and Ireland). They only care for geopolitics, money and power. I was so naïve.

As a Spanish person im quite disappointed. Spainish government could have done much much more. I’m quite disappointed with pedro Sanchez(labour) and a reason why I’d never vote for him or sumar (the other one they’re in the government with).
listening to ione belarra and irene montero in EU chambers ,from podemos , criticising the fake politicians is music to my ears and I’m neither a podemos voter. If Spain has done something is because podemos not because of the government in place (they need podemos to get the local laws so podemos has used this in their advantage tho it’s not been enough)

But, like many others you're no longer naive and that is a positive change.

I fully understand, it's nearly a year since the South African ICJ case and the institutions that we were supposed to be able to rely on to uphold justice utterly failed. It's gut wrenching.

However, the powers that be (including Governments and the MSM) expended so much of their propaganda arsenal looking the other way and silencing dissent that many people can no longer be misled.

For example, the American TikTok ban was ushered through mainly because TikTok was too pro Palestinian (hoping to push users to more controlled social media spaces). Well the American TikTok users have said "no", this week they've downloaded a Chinese social media app and are learning Chinese to communicate directly with Chinese users. The general gist seems to be "they're just like us, remind me why we're meant to hate them" and lots of pictures of cats!.

So why does the lack of palestinian "history" matter so much?

Why are you directing this question at me?

gloriagloria · 15/01/2025 19:54

@SharonEllis - fair comment actually - you weren't really driving that part of the disussion. Sorry.

Lalaloveya · 15/01/2025 20:08

SharonEllis · 15/01/2025 19:10

Why is this directed at me? How many times do I have to say I believe in a 2 state solution which by definition means a Palestinian state?

That's an interesting position, given your unwavering support of the Israeli state despite it not supporting two states.

Lalaloveya · 15/01/2025 20:08

There is nothing implicit in believing in the right of the self determination of the Jewish people that suggests that I would not believe in a two state solution. My only question to you would be, why do you think that the existence of Israel precludes the existence of a state of Palestine?

I just listen to what successive Israeli governments say and do. They're clearly against a 2 state solution. I'm surprised you don't know this.

Why are you making things up?

SharonEllis · 15/01/2025 20:56

@Lalaloveya Im not. I dont know how else to read the fact that in your opinion successive Israeli governments are against a 2 state solution and therefore somehow that leads you to think I must be too. The only way that makes sense is if in some way I represent the Israeli government. I have absolutely no idea why you would think I dont believe in 2 states. On the one hand you seem to have interest in my opinion but on the other not to have read or understood my posts.

I don't support crimes against humanity, that is an offensive accusation. You clearly haven't read my posts very carefully and have made assumptions about my opinions because you disagree with them. This is not a thread about my opinions so Im sure everyone would be grateful if it wasn't derailed by you trying to understand them.

I never heard you condemn them so I assumed you support them cos you condemn plenty of other less heinous things.

I'm sorry I got that wrong and I'm glad you aren't in support of those crimes carried out by the IDF in Gaza.

Oh Gosh, those Chinese people actually telling us about their lives.
Arnaud isn't Chinese, he's French and lives in China with his Chinese wife and Children.

We can't trust them at all. Let's listen to the same sources that downplayed the crimes against humanity commited in Gaza over the last 15 months, they'll surely tell us the truth......

Anyway I'm busy supporting my friends in the Palestine, who may finally get a reprieve on the same terms that have been on the table since May 2024.

And the victims of the Uyghur genocide? Aren't they worth listening to?

Anyway, I'm busy reading accounts of people who aren't Putin lovers or genocide deniers.

Here we go again...
Someone who supports the existence of Israel must therefore agree with everything the Israeli Gov says and does, as well as crimes against humanity.

The good old deflection.
I would be interested to know if you view what is happening in Gaza as a genocide.
Be careful using personal attacks when trying to make a point. It is often the resort of someone who has lost the argument.

I don't consider your questions as genuine. But I will play the game.
Talking about the Uyghur genocide when the thread is about the genocide in Gaza is deflection. In simple terms, it's "look over there, not here"
I note that you haven't answered my question regarding Gaza genocide, which is an answer in itself.
Finally, what would you make of this " Anyway, I am busy reading accounts of people who are not Netanyahu lovers and genocide deniers"?

My questions were perfectly genuine, thank you very much.

I am not the one who brought up China.

I think it is up to an international court to determine if what is happening in Gaza is genocide. I am not an expert in international law.

And I would make of that last sentence exactly what it says.

It would be nice to have a space to discuss the persecution and genocide of the Uyghur people. Perhaps the 'Conflict in the Middle East' board isn't the most appropriate section of the site for it (as it's not happening in the Middle East), but maybe the 'Politics' board? When you start the thread, if you put a link to it here, I'm sure a fair few people would be happy to join and contribute.

The good old argument of "I didn't start it".

Of course it is but you have deemed that, what is happening to the Uyghurs is a genocide whilst no international court has declared it as such, yet. Do you see the double standard?
And I would make of that last sentence exactly what it says.
To be a Netanyahu or Putin lover is to support war criminals/ crimes against humanity. Both have arrest warrants against their names and, for me, it is highly offensive to be called this.
Regarding being called a genocide denier is, for me, well, a serious accusation.

Well yes, you're right. I didn't start it. You can hardly accuse me of deflecting to another topic when I was not the one to bring up the topic.

As for the genocide point, yes you're right I cannot decide definitely whether a genocide is happening or not in either place. I was simply pointing out the irony of someone denying one and not the other.

And yes they are serious accusations. I'm bot denying that.
