The brutal truth of the war in Gaza.

"To find safety from Gaza, you need first to become the victim of a catastrophic injury and then be lucky enough to be identified, selected and extracted.
That's one of the many brutal truths from this long war."

This article is certainly an eye opening read on the failures of those governments who support Israel in their campaign of cruelty. It's very rare for Israel to allow even injured children with multiple limb amputations, to leave Gaza for treatment. I have read previously that despite all the difficult work to organise an evacuation.. in the last minute Israel will just refuse it with no explanation given.

It isn't enough that they torture and murder health care staff, they bomb hospitals, the routinely block medical aid, they constantly bomb residential blocks and safe zones. After all of that only a select few are given permission to leave this living nightmare.

How the lives of the few child amputees allowed to leave Gaza are being rebuilt elsewhere

Sky News' US correspondent Mark Stone has followed the stories of some of the few Palestinians who have left Gaza for medical care.

It would be nice to have a space to discuss the persecution and genocide of the Uyghur people. Perhaps the 'Conflict in the Middle East' board isn't the most appropriate section of the site for it (as it's not happening in the Middle East), but maybe the 'Politics' board? When you start the thread, if you put a link to it here, I'm sure a fair few people would be happy to join and contribute.

I'm not particularly interested in starting a thread, don't really have time. But if the poster who brought up China would like to I may join.

Scirocco · 16/01/2025 11:32

Starting a thread takes about 10 seconds longer than writing a reply to an existing thread. Those 10 seconds being mostly made up of the time it takes to select an appropriate board for it, so that it doesn't end up deflecting away from an equally important topic of discussion.

Just to remind people, the topic of this thread is children who have suffered life-changing traumatic injuries, including having their limbs torn off in explosions.

Here we go again...
Someone who supports the existence of Israel must therefore agree with everything the Israeli Gov says and does, as well as crimes against humanity.

Ffs.

That's not what I said. Try reading it again maybe?

So when you said the brutal truth about the war in Gaza, what you meant was one sided bias which entirely lays the blame on Israel and utterly ignores the facts that:

  1. Hamas broke a ceasefire and launched a deliberately barbaric attack on civilian children, women and men to provoke a violent reaction from Israel
  2. Having provoked a violent attack, Hamas has not sheltered its own citizens in its massive network of tunnels ( y'know, in the way Londoners could shelter in the Tube tunnels during WW2).
  3. Hamas use civilian homes and buildings to launch attacks from, meaning these buildings have to be targeted in a war against Hamas. Hamas knew this when it launched its terrorist attack on October 7th.
  4. Hamas has issued public statements actively glorying in the death of civilians ( the death it wrought in its own citizens) as necessary to fortify its fighters (the fighters cowering in the tunnels the civilians are not allowed in).
  5. Hamas could stop the war it started at any point by surrendering and handing back the hostages.

You do realise Hamas and Hezbollah have also fired tens of thousands at Israel since October 7th and would happily be bringing far more devastation to Israel than Israel is brining to Gaza, if only Israel did not have better defences.

War is horrific. Anyone can understand that. What I will never understand is the mentality which feels anger at Israel but not fury at Hamas.

This…^

and the fact that Hamas were elected by the people living there, so in the most part appear to share Hamas’ values.

im not saying bad shit isn’t happening, it is but let’s not pretend for a second there’s one aggressor and a victim here.

No need to make a thread about the Uighurs, it's not me playing the deflection game right now.

I had brought up the upcoming ban of TikTok in America (mainly due to it's Pro Palestinian stance) triggering the mass migration of users to a Chinese social media app. I thought it was beautiful that Americans were learning Chinese to communicate and that both sides were learning about each other. This is important, so many of these wars are started/maintained by othering and dehumanising sides.

You somehow twisted this to make unfounded accusations first against Arnaud and then suggest I was denying the Uighur massacre and am a Putin lover.

Quite frankly, I'm only responding to stop the derailing, I'm more concerned with Netanyahu again trying to frustrate the ceasefire

No I absolutely didn't.

You did. Shall I quote you back, for the second time today?
I find it important to take responsibility for what we say/post.

Oh, my mistake. I assumed that when you were saying "And the victims of the Uyghur genocide? Aren't they worth listening to?", that you cared about people listening to them, and therefore that you might have an interest in a space existing to discuss what is happening. The alternative explanation would have been that this was yet another effort to deflect away from the awful things happening to innocent children in Palestine.

Let me suggest a third explanation. That there is not a mandatory requirement for every poster to make an entire thread about everything the may care about enough to respond to another poster on that topic. Can't imagine what that would cost MN in server space and bandwidth.

I mean this is getting fucking ridiculous frankly. Why are you so invested on whether or not I make a particular thread on mumsnet. Make it yourself if it's such a massive deal to you.

I do care. Like I said, I don't have to start a thread about it to care about it.

Maybe you should start one instead of harassing me about it.

Scirocco · 16/01/2025 13:29

Informing you of how to do so is hardly harassment.

This thread is about children dying and being horribly injured in Palestine. It would be respectful of those innocent children for people to try to keep the thread on topic.

BelleHathor · 16/01/2025 13:31

I'm listening to someone in Gaza right now, and their 4 year old daughter has just given us a 5 minute concert, singing her A,B,Cs and also other songs in Arabic (which I don't understand). That she is still singing is a miracle, it's 3.30pm there, no school, no home, but she still giggled, my heart.

Those poor children. They are innocent and have suffered so much. I can only hope that one day an amicable solution can be found so future children can grow up knowing peace.

I agree with you, but a lot of people think their deaths/injuries/trauma were justified so I can't see anything much changing. Nobody did anything much to stop it from happening. 15 months in and they've killed 20 more children since the ceasefire was announced yesterday evening. It's barbarism.

Unless Netanyahu and his co-accused are brought to justice. If they are, then there is some chance.
