I saw Sky news before and the Hamas terror attacks were awful but 44,000 people in Palestine have died. Kids with their limbs blown off. One little boy asking for slippers, he had one half leg left.

All killed in a space of a year. At least 34,000 have been identified. There are thousands unaccounted for. My hearts breaks for them and aches for the ones who are suffering. This can't go on any longer. It really can't.

Excerpt from the Guardian below.

Does the world give a fuck about these children or not?

Is this what ‘winning’ looks like?

Whatever people think will be gained, too much has already been lost.

Up to 51,000 children in Gaza could be unaccompanied or separated from parents, charity warns

The International Rescue Committee(IRC) has shared a new report detailing the devastating impact Israel’s war on Gaza has had on the children in the territory.
Here are some of the main findings from the report:

  • About 17,000 children are estimated to be unaccompanied or separated from parents and caregivers. The IRC thinks this figure could be three times as high (51,000).
  • Frequent Israeli evacuation orders, detentions and attacks have contributed to more families being separated in Gaza over the past few months.
  • Some children have been found living alone in hospitals.
  • Unaccompanied and separated children face high risks of child labour, exploitation, neglect, starvation, and long-term mental health impacts.
  • Every child, parent and caregiver in Gaza is experiencing trauma.
  • IRC teams in Gaza are seeing increased rates of severe and acute malnutrition in children under five.
  • Children in Gaza have now missed one year of education because of the collapse of the education destruction of school buildings caused by Israeli bombardment.

This is devastating to see. There's just so much injustice in this conflict. And one side is paying a much heavier price than the other.

Haaretz

GAZA: The IDF said it struck a former school in Deir al-Balah that was sheltering displaced people because Hamas militants were operating inside, adding that "prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence." The Palestinian Red Crescent said 28 people were killed in the attack and 54 were wounded.

……..

This killing and this same excuse will go on ad infinitum for years. They think a few militants are inside so bomb anyone there and within the vicinity.

The militants must know that schools are not actually safe, so they may not be there but in tunnels anyway.

I have only just seen this article from yesterday. I have to admit I'm pretty shocked with Netanyahu's words which amount to a very serious threat but also his admission of the destruction they have caused in Gaza and that (my interpretation) it's due to Palestinians not ridding themselves of Hamas, that doesn't sound like defence but revenge.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appealed directly to the people of Lebanon in a video published on Tuesday, telling them to turn against the Iran-backed Shia group Hezbollah or risk destruction on the scale of Gaza.

Netanyahu's appeal to the Lebanese people falls on deaf ears in Beirut

Beirut residents tell the BBC what they made of the Israeli PM's appeal to take back their country from Hezbollah.

It sounds so hopeless and as though the powerless people are living in a vacuum that Hezbollah is filling. There would have to be a civil war against Hezbollah and it would be lost from the sounds of it. The people cannot drive out Hezbollah. Does that mean they will go the way of Gaza?

10 Oct, yesterday. This is Matt Frei Channel 4 News
speaking on the telephone to a man from a family who is trapped with wounded family inside their bombed house, unable to get out as the IDF are shooting outside at shot at him when he’d tried to take wounded out the door.

So, can anyone doubt the true intentions of the Israeli campaign in Gaza? They’re now clearing Northern Gaza, telling everyone to go south or they’ll be fair game (not that they aren’t already). This is a land grab writ large. Palestinians will not ever be able to return to what is a virtual wasteland. What a disaster… The Israeli government can seemingly do what they like. Why do they have a free pass to kill and maim civilians and destroy the country? The world seems afraid to do anything meaningful to stop the carnage.

Lettherebejustice · 12/10/2024 09:33

The killing and bombardment in the north has been relentless. The US have expressed alarm at what Israel are doing, but that is the extent of their action or you could say inaction. This has slipped under the radar mostly whilst the focus is currently on what is happening in Lebanon.

I think as numbers mount up people do get desensitised to it and don't link the numbers to people, if they ever did. If Lebanon conflict hadn't escalated I think Gaza would have slipped further and further out of the news by now.
