Haaretz
According to a New York Times investigation, the IDF "regularly forced captured Palestinians" to carry out "life-threatening reconnaissance missions to avoid putting Israeli soldiers at risk in the battlefield." While the extent of these operations is unknown, the Times reported that the practice has been used by at least 11 military squads in five cities across Gaza, and that officers from Israel's intelligence agencies were often involved.

The silence from some posters is deafening and speaks volumes.

Indeed.

Update from bbc

UN humanitarian workers say they are hoping that 30 more lorries of food aid will enter northern Gaza today.
Distribution points are still working in some areas, they say, although Jabalia remains impossible to reach because of the ongoing Israeli military offensive, which it says is to target Hamas operatives who are regrouping.
Yesterday evening, the Israeli body which manages crossings into Gaza, COGAT, said that it had allowed in 30 lorries carrying flour and food from the World Food Programme.
That broke a two-week stretch during which the UN says that aid levels completely dropped off.
“The situation is desperate. We have no shelter supplies, very little food and zero assurances from Israel on getting anything into Jabalia where more than 100,000 people are trapped,” says Georgios Petropoulos, head of the UN’s humanitarian agency, OCHA, in Gaza.
About 400,000 Palestinians remain in northern Gaza, according to the UN.
Tens of thousands have been displaced from their homes in the Jabalia area, while others remain stranded amid increasing bombardment and fighting.

Israeli Defense Officials: Gov't Pushing Aside Hostage Deal, Eyeing Gaza Annexation
*IDF commanders in Gaza say the recent decision to operate in the northern part of the Strip was taken without proper deliberations.^

This is Shaban, the man the world saw burning alive whilst on a drip. 💔💔

I'm struggling to understand the lack of condemnation or even showing an ounce of empathy for what's happened from some posters on here.

"From some posters on here".

Like who?

What a heartless disgusting thing to say. Who is f*in high giving any of this? That comment reflects more on you than anyone else and actually highlights how important it is to keep telling these stories

It's not high fiving each other to agree that what is happening is disgusting

I know what you said and my comment still stands. Why would we be high fiving each other as people share the atrocities they are hearing about.

Awful, awful thing to say. Many people are upset and sharing their feelings.

anotherlevel · 15/10/2024 13:56

@KnickerDropperGlory What an awful comment to make. You're happy to come on here to make negative comments about posters but not to show any outrage or concern or any other feelings about what happened in yesterday's attack. Why is that?

@SallyWD Yes I saw a video of the protest in NY and sadly one protestor was strong armed almost by a police officer.

US Government will not stand against this (and the UK are pathetically half hearted). We can only hope the ordinary citizens of every Country can force their Governments to listen and take action. Even the United Nations cannot get America to listen.

Sorry, I didn't realise that every single poster has to show a sufficient amount of outrage about every single thing in order to not be considered a terrible person.

Scirocco · 15/10/2024 14:27

@KnickerDropperGlory what's your take on the recent events then? Personally, I think what's happening to people in Palestine and now Lebanon is rather difficult to defend or justify, so I'm genuinely curious as to how people who don't think that way actually come to the conclusion that what's happening is ok or defensible.

wonder what the minimum that they need to provide to keep USA happy is

from bbc

The US has written to Israel’s government giving it 30 days to urgently boost humanitarian aid access in Gaza or face having some US military assistance cut off.
The letter amounts to the strongest known written warning from the Biden administration to its ally, coming as Israel’s attack on northern Gaza has seen mass forced displacements of civilians to the south.
The letter - sent two days ago - was signed by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin. It says the US has “deep concern” about “the deteriorating humanitarian situation”.
It adds that Israel last month denied or impeded nearly 90% of humanitarian movements between north and south Gaza.
It states that evacuation orders have forced 1.7 million people into a narrow coastal strip where they are at “high risk of lethal contagion”.
The letter demands “urgent and sustained actions by your government this month to reverse this trajectory”.
It says Israel “must, starting now and within 30 days” act on a series of concrete measures to boost aid supplies, adding that failure may “have implications for US policy”.
It cites US laws which can prohibit military assistance to countries that impede delivery of American humanitarian aid.
It calls on Israel to end the “isolation of northern Gaza” by reaffirming that there will be no “no Israeli government policy of forced evacuation of civilians” from north to south.
The contents of the letter, reported by the journalist Barak Ravid, have been verified by the BBC.

This is nowhere near enough but I'm glad that something is being done.

Martymcfly24 · 15/10/2024 17:23

It is significant though in that it demonstrates a departure from the US Policy of supporting Israel with no conditions. Hopefully this will continue.

SpiritAdder · 15/10/2024 17:25

Honestly, the words and more words from Biden are imho purely to cover his ass to the genocide case at the ICJ to point at and say he isn’t complicit in genocide because he told Israel’s government over and over follow the law, don’t bomb civilians, let in aid. It’s just imho smoke and mirrors for the actions of Biden’s administration which is one of full, unquestioned support.

Oh, and probably to get Harris votes.
